openness and accountability are usually considered cornerstones of a democratic system,

Jan-19-13  mightor: <Do I even need to do a count? ;-)>

Of course you do.

You've got to post all the votes earned by all nominees to make it official. Are you lazy or what?

Jan-19-13  mightor: Here's an example:

WannaBe: <mightor> Nice link and pic, from 2011, here is one for you too, with an advanced apology to <OhioChessFan>.

(This doesn't 'directly' violate rule #3, I hope...)

Jan-19-13  mightor: You're just lucky it's duck season:

Jan-19-13  mightor: < with an advanced apology to <OhioChessFan>.>

An advance apology does not give you a legitimate justification to disrespect and trample upon someone else's God.

<ohilchessfan> must protest. His religious belief must come paramount over petty peer ...I mean.. rabbit pressure.

http://www.google.com.ph/imgres?q=s...

Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: I find <WannaBe>'s link distasteful - that's not what Jesus was about - and given that many millions of people have died as result of that righteous attitude, be they Christians or Muslims themselves.

Someone chasten the rabbit..

Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: Before I do..
Jan-19-13  mightor: the wabbit is defending his God...which in this case is the CG administrator.
Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: <mightor:> You don't help either. Like I've said many times before - I'm not interested in taking sides, whether it's the Caissars and 'chummy voting' or tribalism and defending a 'clique'.

Let's have some consistency from all, who use this site. Manners and ethics are universal.

Jan-19-13  mightor: <which in this case is the CG administrator.> who just recently unleased the great flood on the Wesley So page and managed to drown 80 pages of posts proclaiming Wesley So as the true chess messiah.

<Let's have some consistency from all, who use this site. Manners and ethics are universal.>

Twas long ago when the community of nations has documented the universal declaration of Human rights to pre-empt another world war..a document which laid down as fundamental human and kibitzer' rights- the freedom of speech and expression of one's opinion...the CG administrator would have none of it and burned their kibitzes in an open stake like Joan of Arc suspected of being a witch...most CG citizens would express delight instead of contempt...one would even remark...hope you like your kibitzes extra crispy.

http://www.un.org/en/documents/udhr...

The should be implementor has turned transgressor.

Jan-19-13  mightor: <Someone chasten the rabbit..> this too is an affront to the freedom of speech and opinion.

Let the rabbit be. He will be judged someday.. but not by you or me.

You and me can agree or disagree of what he has to say. Still we must defend to the death his right to say it?

Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: I didn't ask for his post to be deleted - there lies the difference. However, I would hope that he or his 'mates' would show respect, if not for the millions of people who have died as result of this 'attitude', then at least for the values they routinely hold up for 'others' on this site.
Jan-19-13  mightor: <I didn't ask for his post to be deleted - there lies the difference.>

You've proven yourself a wise man with potential to be promoted from colonel to a 5 star general. Long live General Mortimer Sir. Hope CG admins can learn from your example.

Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: I'm not a popular person on this site with many - nor do I wish to be. But I do recognise fairness. I will take that over 'popularity' any day.
Jan-19-13  Abdel Irada: <mightor: < Abdel Irada: <Blunderdome: I prefer public voting, though.> Why?>

openness and accountability are usually considered cornerstones of a democratic system,>

Election-day lobbyists like you are precisely the reason why the U.S. and other countries use private ballots. One should be able to vote without fear of pressure, harassment or retribution, and that is difficult in an environment in which magnificos and mightors prowl the polling places.

Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: To be fair - there are others.
Jan-19-13  mightor: <One should be able to vote without fear of pressure, harassment or retribution,>

Such a petty trade off if you consider the objectives sought out to be achieved in an open voting system. These are, as I've pointed out already- the openness, accountability and transparency which are usually considered cornerstones of a democratic system.

There is even a non-governmental organization that monitors and publicizes corporate and political corruption in international development.

http://www.transparency.org/

Corruption (i.e. manufactured results in favor of pampered bets) would be a most probable result of a private voting system. An open system pre-empts this.

< and that is difficult in an environment in which magnificos and mightors prowl the polling places.>

Private voting is supposed to protect the voters from the ills you've enumerated and not the election commissioners. If CG needs to protect itself from the magnificos and mightors , they can do it by coming up with effective < CG election rules and procedures> just like this one:http://www.chanrobles.com/comelecru...

And who says magnifico and mightors are night prowlers out to spread mayhem and havoc. They are in fact barangay tanods http://www.google.com.ph/search?hl=... out to maintain peace and order under a regime of truth, justice and democracy.

Jan-19-13  Abdel Irada: <And who says magnifico and mightors are night prowlers out to spread mayhem and havoc.>

Who said anything about "night," "mayhem" or "havoc"? What you do spread is lobbying of voters to cast their ballots in accordance with your desires, which tends to undermine the validity of the electoral process.

Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: <Abdel> <What you do spread is lobbying of voters to cast their ballots in accordance with your desires, which tends to undermine the validity of the electoral process.>

I would tend to agree - <tpstar> was 'piqued' by the 'best informed' caissar going to <softpaw> - you only have to read lightly into his recent post to me on the "argue" page to pick this up.

Jan-19-13  mightor: <What you do spread is lobbying of voters to cast their ballots in accordance with your desires, which tends to undermine the validity of the electoral process.>

Well, CG did not see anything wrong with the lobbying your implying.

It's within the rules:

<...although while you actually cast your nomination/vote you may say a few words about their merits.>

Jan-19-13  Abdel Irada: Key words: "...while you actually cast..."

This does not seem to sanction taking every opportunity to promote a favorite player.

Jan-19-13  mightor: <This does not seem to sanction taking every opportunity to promote a favorite player.>

Good point.

Which CG seems to miss intentionally or unintentionally.

It was more worried of pressing matters on its agenda- on top of the list was denuding the Wesley So forest of 80 acres of healthy timber.

Jan-19-13  mightor: But your man <southpaw> won. So, <not Wesley> why are you complaining?
Jan-19-13  mightor: <Colonel Mortimer: To be fair - there are others.> I may have some idea. Can you name them please?
