The Caissars: Thank you for participating in the 2019 Caissars! We apologize for the very delayed start, which probably contributed to the difficulty of selecting deserving candidates, and will do our best to run the Caissars at the beginning of January in the future. <And now here are ...

Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: Nope - they know who they are.
Jan-19-13  mightor: I missed your Lee Van Cliff avatar...Still, I would not have voted it as best. A Clint Eastwood maybe...
Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: Everyone goes for Clint Eastwood. Just watch the whole final scene in a "Few Dollars More" and you'll realise what I'm about..
Jan-19-13  mightor: http://youtu.be/KBdBCTvK5zM

OhioChessFan: <The Caissars> if you're not ready to jump out a window after your first year of hosting, could I suggest that future forums be named "The Caissars 2013", "The Caissars 2014", etc?
Jan-19-13  Colonel Mortimer: <chancho:> That messes with the colonel, by putting him in the eighties:)

Jan-19-13  Blunderdome: I mean, guys, we're taking about the user awards for a chess website. If <harassment or retribution> are at stake we all need to seriously rethink our lives.

OhioChessFan: For the idea of a nomination and second to work, there almost has to be a daily update of the status of nominations for each category, with a listing of nominated and separate listing of seconded. And I still think you should open a new Caissar Forum each year.

The Caissars: Welcome to the 2014 Caissars, our annual jubilee where we look back on the previous year to celebrate and salute the best of chess and Chessgames.

There are 14 categories of awards. Each category is won by a specific Chessgames member, with the exceptions of #12 (Pun of the Year), #13 (Player of the Year), and #14 (Game of the Year). Some of you might have some questions so we scribbled some notes for each category below.

There is no special voting booth for this process. You nominate/vote by making a normal post in the Chessforum below.

A few rules have been changed/amended from last year, so please take note:

• You may not nominate yourself (or your post, avatar, etc.) for any category: you may only nominate another member.

• Each nomination requires another member to "second" the nomination.

• No member may make more than three (3) nominations for any category. However, you may second any number of nominations.

• All categories for members must be for actual members. Last year a winner was "All Bistro Members Combined." This year, that will not be allowed.

• You may not nominate Chessgames administrative accounts for any category.

• We have added a new category, "Game of the Year".

♔ THE CATEGORIES ♔

<Best Avatar> This must be an avatar currently in use by the member in question.

<Best Username> It's not required that the person signed-up in 2013.

<Most Helpful> Helpful in the sense of showing new people the ropes, providing links to the live video right when everybody needs it the most, and so forth. Not to be confused with "Most Constructive" below.

<Best Post> The post in question must be from 2013.

<Funniest Poster> The poster that, on the whole, made you laugh the most.

<Most Constructive> Making helpful suggestions to improve the website, organizing Chessgames members for any productive reason, regularly doing things that help the community, etc.

<Best Profile> It's not necessary that the profile was created in 2013.

<Best Analysis> Computer analysis does NOT count.

<Best Game Collection> It's not necessary that the collection was created in 2013.

<Most Informed> The kibitzer who seems to have all the answers at the tip of his or her fingertips.

<Best Historian> You'll probably want to check out the Biographer Bistro for some ideas here.

<Best/Worst Pun of the Year> See our Game of the Day Archive for the previous 365 puns.

<Player of the Year> It is not necessarily the strongest or most successful player of the year, but the most laudable player of the year, for whatever reason.

<Game of the Year> The best or most notable game of 2013.

The nomination process begins at midnight January 2nd. If anybody has any questions feel free to run them by me.

tpstar: <Game of the Year> Since 2004, the membership has held Best Game voting for the whole year, choosing up to ten games, then tabulating and ordering the results in a Game Collection. May we still continue this top ten voting process while users vote on this chessforum for one game, or would you rather just run one Best Game voting here? Thank you.

Annie K.: <Ohio> I can do that again... I'm going to be keeping tabs just out of curiosity for myself, anyhow. Of course anybody else is welcome run their own list and double check. :)

Lookin' good <cg>, pardon, <The Caissars>! ;)

Jan-01-14  master of defence: <The Caissars>, after the consensus in each category, could you put the link to each one of them? (For instance, where will be located the Best/Funniest Post of 2013)
Jan-01-14  dunamisvpm: Happy new year and more power to chessgames.com

The Caissars: <Ohio> Near the end of the nomination affair we'll try to sort out who has been seconded appropriately. I can understand the desire to see which nominations are still waiting on a second; for that I'm sure helpful members like Annie K. may provide updates.

<master of defence> Yes, we'll try to provide links to all of the entrants as appropriate, especially for "Best Kibitz" which can prove tricky even for seasoned Chessgamers to properly link to.

<tpstar> That's a good point. I would say to continue the top-10 game tradition, and let our new category #14 be regarded as a separate award. The winner may very well be the same game, but if not that may prove interesting as well.

Erm... Some of us are already in January 2nd.
