 | | Sneaky: For best pun I have to go with the one I nominated, <Olly Olly Albin Free!> It reminds me of a wonderful book by the late Kurt Vonnegut, "Mother Night", about an American spy living under a government protection program after WW2. Quote: I often heard a cry from that little Eden, a child’s cry that never failed to make me stop and listen. It was the sweetly mournful cry that meant a game of hide-and-seek was over, and those still hiding, that it was time to go home. The cry was this: “Olly-olly-oxen-free.” And I, hiding from many people who might want to hurt or kill me, often longed for someone to give that cry for me, to end my endless game of hide-and seek with a sweet and mournful—“Olly-olly-oxen-free.” |

 | | HeMateMe: Do we really have a closing ceremony? any chance we can get those central Asian dancing girls? |
|
Jan-17-14
 | | The Caissars: Here's your dancing: http://www.chessgames.com/chessimag... Drumroll… the winner of <Best Historian> goes (by a small landslide( to <jessicafischerqueen>. Congratulations! The winner of <Best/Worst Pun> goes, also by a good margin, to <Jeepers Kuipers, How'd You Beat Art Pijpers?> (S Kuipers vs A Pijpers, 2007). Chessgames wishes it could take credit for this funny title but in fact it was submitted by a member, and for life of us we can't remember who it was. We wish they would step forward. And now, the final day, when we vote for "Game of the Year" and "Player of the Year". Nominees will be posted above shortly. Thanks to everybody who has participated in the Caissars this year, it's been great fun. |

 | | The Caissars: By the way, when voting for the best game or best player, you don't have to actually link to the page. Just copy-pasting the name is enough. But do remember to use <gold-text>. |

 | | SwitchingQuylthulg: I vote <Magnus Carlsen> for Player of the Year and <Aronian vs Anand, 2013> for Game of the Year. |
|
Jan-17-14 | | MarkFinan: I vote <Anand vs Carlsen, 2013> for best game of 2013. It wasn't the prettiest (although it certainly wasn't an ugly game either!), and from a chess neutral angle there are probably more exciting games of chess, but it's *the game* that fulfilled a young man's destiny and from a historical point of view will be remembered more than any of the others as it gave him that title.. For player of 2013 I vote <Magnus Carlsen |
|
Jan-17-14 | | Nina Myers: I vote for <Magnus Carlsen> as Player of the Year and <Aronian vs Anand, 2013> for Game of the Year, too. |
