Dec-09-24 Ding Liren vs D Gukesh, 2024 (replies)

TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

Aug-25-08  rogge: <TheAlchemist>

You noticed ? Thanks!

Jaques ;)

Aug-25-08  acirce: <rogge> Well, at least Sweden won the unofficial gold medal in "whining, complaining and blaming others", or so it seemed at times... (Our loss against you in the women's handball quarterfinal, indeed, is one example.)

I'm not saying it was never justified, but sometimes people behaved almost as if the Olympics were one big conspiracy against us..

Aug-25-08  chessmoron: <acirce> Nah. "whining, complaining and blaming others" Gold medal goes to some Americans and British for constant whining that Chinese girls are under-aged. Remember that NY Times and Associated Press has constantly planted Yang Yun; a 2000 Bronze Medalist told "some interviewer" that she was 14 at that time in 2000 Olympics. But NY Times has failed to proof that; no video-recording has been found.

http://www.worldaffairsboard.com/cu...

And also since some Americans/Brit is judgmental on how the girls look; here's an avg chart between Asians (JPN/CHN) vs US gymnasts in the 2008 Beijing Olympics

Comparing Female Japanese/Chinese/US Gymnasts:

JPN: Avg height: 4'10'' Avg weight: 82 pounds Avg age: 19

CHN: Avg height: 4'8'' Avg weight: 77 pounds Avg age: ~16.8=17

USA: Avg height: 5'0'' Avg weight: 106.5 pounds Avg age: ~18.2=18

Oct-10-08  NakoSonorense: Ciao. Hai un email? Dato che sei l'unica persona di Slovenia che conosco, vorrei farti una domanda, posso?

Puoi trovare il mio email nel mio profilo.

Grazie!

Oct-16-08  Red October: lol your idea rocks too!!
Oct-20-08  brankat: <TheAlchemist> I have not been following football (soccer) ever since the conclusion of Euro 2008. The other day You mentioned at <meloncio>'s forum something about Slovenia-Check Republic game. A tie, if I remember this correctly. And something about 7 points out of 4 games.

Is this a qualifying group for 2010 already? If so, who else is in the group? Also how do the current standings look like? Thanks.

TheAlchemist: <brankat> Yes, it's for the 2010 WC. We have a very "slavic" group, with Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Northern Ireland and San Marino. Currently, Slovakia is first with 9 points (4 games), then Poland and Slovenia with 7 (4), Northern Ireland 4 (4) the Czech Republic 4 (3) and San Marino 0 (3)

Serbia is also doing very well so far in their group and is in first place.

Here are all the groups:

http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/prelim...

Oct-20-08  brankat: <TheAlchemist> Thanks for the info and the link.

Since in the Slovenia group there are 6 teams, some good ones, too, I assume that the first 2 teams will qualify. Or is it just the winner, in which case it would be quite tough.

TheAlchemist: <brankat> The winner qualifies directly, while the 2nd placed teams go to the playoffs (they're paired off and play 2 games, the winners also qualify).

Yes, it will be tough, but we've been 2nd three times already (2000, 2002 and 2004), twice (2000, 2002) we've qualified for a big competition. To be honest, I didn't expect much at the start, but our team has really improved, it seems this generation has finally matured (or is close to it), in the previous cycle for the Euro 2008 we've played terribly. Or maybe our peak is for the Euro 2012 qualifiers, I don't know.

Oct-28-08  yoozum: Hey, I'm doing great! And how have you been? I couldn't stay away because watching the Kramnik-Anand match made me realize how much I missed this place.
Nov-24-08  brankat: <TheAlchemist> Hi there Uros!

It's been a while since we talked last time. I just wanted to ask about Your school/University thing. You must be getting very close now to the final exams?

If so, then Good Luck buddy.

Kind of refreshing, given all the blunders I've made recently (I'll collect some of the most tragicomic ones some day).

TheAlchemist: A great video I just found on YouTube:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmIR...

It's a jam that finished a concert titled "Giants of Rock'n'roll" in Rome in 1989. Imagine, James Brown, Ray Charles, Little Richard, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bo Diddley and B.B. King simultaneously on the stage! Only Chuck Berry was missing. Now I think I'll become obsessed with trying to find a copy of the whole thing.
