TheAlchemist: The genius of Ding's play to me was how (except Nb5) he made moves solely on his own half of the board and in 25 moves he completely outplayed Gukesh.

lomez: I'm not sure how else to go about this, but I have a question for TheAlchemist -- has to do with pronounciation: what to do with the Croatian name "Nenad Fercec" -- particularly the last name? I won't be sure how to check to see if you are able to answer, so if you see this and wouldn't mind emailing, I can be reached at fourboards@gmail.com. Thanks very much to anyone who can answer this.

TheAlchemist: News regarding the '58 Interzonal anniversary tournament... it will be held from March 7 to March 16 2008. The schedule (http://calendar.fide.com/index.phtm...) seems quite free so far, so it might be possible to attract one or two top GMs, at least I hope so. It would be quite a spectacular event, also because the still living participants of the '58 izt will all be invited.

I wanna congratulate you sincerely for your great and amazing collection Game Collection: Brilliancies By "Unknowns". I found there immortal games, even better than the most famous ones. You found the golden coins in the mud, and those "Brilliancies by Unknowns" are a delightful collection that merely deserve to be known by "knowns and unknowns". I was tired of those immortal games of the "famous players" and now I see the immortal of the "unfamous ones", and after seeing the game number #2 (E Kalegin vs S Yuferov, 1990), I was convinced that the rest of the games were going to be jewels.

Thanks to you, sincerely, for an awesome compilation

TheAlchemist: <syracrophy> Thank you, but I'm just a messenger, you should thank the players for producing the games in the first place :-)
Nov-21-07  syracrophy: <TheAlchemist> Thanks for remembering my birthday! :-) And sorry for answering so late. I have no Internet at home by now, but I hope that soon I'll recover it. Thanks once more
Nov-25-07  Red October: I am planning a tour of the Slovenian Churches next year, any recommendations ? :) thanks in advance

TheAlchemist: Hmm, I have to ask, is this a serious question (you know, with your avatar and all)?
Nov-25-07  Red October: lol Open Defence here.. and yes it is.. the avtaar is with regards to the Social Ideal and not how it ended up being practised....

  TheAlchemist: <RO> <OD> LOL, I know who you are, I just wasn't sure, so I asked :-)

Anyway, I'm not so into churches and so I can only offer limited help, based on the list at the Slovenian Wikipedia (http://sl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seznam...) and from what I know, I think you should visit the churches in <Ljubljana> (there are many, from different periods and in different styles and we might have a mosque in the future too :-)), then the one in <Bled> (on the island), the church of St. Rupert in <Ĺ entrupert>, the church of the Holy Trinity in <Hrastovlje> (with the famous frescos), the church of St. Nicholas in <Novo mesto>, etc. To name something in my vicinity, there's a nice church tower in <Koper>, along with city walls and other buildings on the Tito square (I know, not exactly a fitting combination :-), but it's the only one that hasn't been renamed since our independence) and in <Piran>, also with the famous city walls.

All are small or very small churches, as are most of the towns they're located in, so don't expect anything "monumental".

I can further try and look for some photos (some are already provided on the link above), if you're interested.

Take care!

Dec-31-07  brankat: Glad to hear You received the card. Still, once again, Happy New Year my friend!
Jan-12-08  meloncio: Hey, the old chemical bald is back. Nice to see you again!
Jan-14-08  brankat: <TheAlchemist> The "Portoroz 50th Anniversary of the 1958 Interzonal" should start in less than 2 months.

-- Do You know if the list of the players has been finalized?

-- Will any of the "survivors" be there as guests.

This could probably be a great opportunity for You to take some photos and maybe get a few autographs, too!

  jessicafischerqueen: Hi <Captain>!

Good to see you at my house. Glad you enjoyed the list... Not sure why I did it but once I started I couldnt' stop till it was done.

Very appropriate to see you tonight!

I just watched an <incredibly haunting> documentary on <Cantor, Boltzmann, Godel, and Turing>.

I wish I understood more math...

Their ideas were thrilling and their lives marked by tragedy and the cruelty of their peers...

Feb-09-08  brankat: <TheAlchemist> How are things? You don't seem to be kibitzing much, lately. I suppose You must busy with the school matters. Do you expect to graduate this year or next?
Feb-10-08  brankat: <TheAlchemist> Thank You for the response. I replied in my forum.

Thanks for the <Gascoigne> vid you posted on the "Match of the Day."

I just posted a 4 minute "highlight reel" of great <Gascoigne Goals> on the same thread.

I didn't know the webmasters here were such knowledgeable football fans!!

Yes, it surprised me too. But then again, we chessplayers are usually knowledgeable people, right?

But going by my friends at <CG.com>, yes, there seem to be some exceedingly well-informed individuals hanging about....

<TheAlchemist> Talking of that game collection, does 26...Nd7!! from Steinitz vs Chigorin, 1889 really belong there? Granted, it loses a queen, but there's nothing better in the position; all other moves lose either two rooks or the king or both. Surely there are plenty of horrible top-GM blunders more deserving of being up there...

Just wondering. Perhaps there's some obvious reason I've missed for that game to be included in your collection.

TheAlchemist: Some nice games I've played lately on QA:

1) Here I was Black:

1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.Nc3 c5 4.d5 exd5 5.cxd5 d6 6.Nf3 g6 7.h3 Bg7 8.e4 O-O 9.Bd3 Nbd7 10.O-O Nh5 11.Bg5 Bf6 12.Be3 Re8 13.Nd2 Bg7 (<According to the Opening Explorer this is a new move>) 14.g4

2) I was White, same opponent as above:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 Nf6 5.O-O Be7 6.Re1 b5 7.Bb3 d6 8.c3 O-O 9.h3 h6 10.d4 Re8 11.Nbd2 Bf8 12.Nf1 Bb7 13.Ng3 Na5 14.Bc2 Nc4 15.b3 Nb6 16.a4 c5 17.a5

exd4 (<A beautiful sacrifice by my opponent, although my defence from here on was certainly not flawless. This is also a new move according to the Opening Explorer >) 18.axb6 dxc3 19.Qd3 b4 20.e5 dxe5 21.Qxd8 Raxd8 22.Rxe5 Nd7 23.Rxe8 Rxe8 24.Be3 Nxb6 25.Rd1 Bd5 26.Ne2 c4 27.Ned4 a5 28.Ra1 cxb3 0-1

(<Here I decided to accept the challenge, although I had to spend a lot of time figuring out what was going to happen. Eventually I traded down to an ending where I think I played quite well.>)

TheAlchemist: 4) Here I was White, I sacrificed like crazy, but it didn't work out:

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5 a6 4.Ba4 b5 5.Bb3 Na5

6.Bxf7+ (<I couldn't resist>) Kxf7 7.Nxe5+ Ke6 (<The only game in the database with 7...Ke6 is D Trujillo Delgado vs A Ayala Trujillo, 2001, but there Black didn't capture on e5>) 8.Qg4+ Kxe5 9.d4+ Kd6 10.e5+ Ke7 11.Bg5+ Nf6 12.exf6+ gxf6 13.O-O Kf7 14.Qh5+ Kg8 15.Bd2 Nc6 16.Re1 Bb7 17.Qd5+ Kg7

18.Bh6+ (<And here I decided to go down in style :-)>) Kxh6 19.Re3 Be7 20.Qf7 (<Better was 20.Qf5, to prevent the following move, although White is still lost>) f5 21.Rh3+ Bh4 22.g3 Nxd4 0-1
