Mar-28-12 | | whiteknight09: Help! Why can I no longer play games using the chess viewer? Did my membership lapse or am I missing a piece of software? WhiteKnight09 |

Apr-30-12 | | chriso0258: I am creating a a website and would like to include CVD on the site. However, I'm running into problems getting it to work on a Joomla 2.5 website? The browser actually prints the code on the webpage. I have tried using custom html module and plugins to allow code but to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated!! |

 | | Viewer Deluxe: Hi <chriso0258>,
The dynamic applet creation is much easier to integrate. Just follow the instructions http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/.... This is the same method which CG.com refers to as “CVD II”. Not to mention that it’s fully cross browser compatible as opposed to the deprecated APPLET tags. |
|
May-04-12 | | chriso0258: Thanks for your reply. I did read those instructions and am still confused. I am using Joomla for my CMS. I'm afraid I'm still confused as to where to put the code. My site has one main template css. If I put the code in the site's template.css, then how would I get the CV on a particular page? If I don't put it in the template.css, where then?
Thanks for your patience. |

 | | Viewer Deluxe: As a proof of concept you can include the main JS and the CV section one in the same post. It should work but make sure you edit in HTML mode (or whatever Joomla is calling it). Then you may be able to find a better place for the main JS – something like page header, template, layout. I’m not familiar with Joomla so I can’t help you there. You may be interested to see how CVD integration works with WordPress and, ideally, you may be able to do similar for Joomla. I’m not suggesting you try the WP solution on Joomla (that’s not going to work) so it all depends on your experience. |

May-08-12 | | chriso0258: I think I'm getting closer. I got another viewer's script to work but not yours. I would prefer your viewer. The other script can be found at http://gameknot.com/pg/chess-tools..... I put your chess viewer stub code in my template.css file. I then used your html code generator on a pgn file and put that on my webpage but it doesn't seem to pick up the js. in the template.css file. I also tried including the stub code in with the html script but that didn't work either. Maybe if you look at the other viewer you can tell me what's the same/different and I can use that information to make corrections. Just a thought. |
|
May-08-12 | | chriso0258: Never mind. I got it to work. Thank you for all your time. One last question, is there a way your viewer can be configured so a user viewing our site can input their own pgn file data? |
|
May-13-12 | | chriso0258: Couple of questions:
1. I noticed that on chessgames.com they can create a link on their home page to a game. How can I create links to games on my website? 2. Is there a way for a website visitor to copy and paste the contents of a pgn file into the viewer to view their own game? |
|
May-13-12
 | | WannaBe: <chriso0258> If you right click on the box score section, you will see options to copy or paste PGNs. |
|
May-16-12
 | | Viewer Deluxe: <chriso0258> Yes, the solution that <WannaBe> suggests is available in every CVD instance. I have a feeling that your questions are about Web development. That whole field is not a subject we can discuss here. There are many good books that can help. |
|
May-28-12 | | chriso0258: When I was viewing my website with some friends we noticed that your viewer did not show up on his iPad3. Have you had any other reports of this? Is there a setting in his iPad browser that needs to be set? I don't know if this applies to other iPad models as well. Thanks. |

Sep-19-12 | | qstone: Hi, CVD is great. I like it a lot. One question, how to make the dark square color solid? Thanks. |
|
Sep-20-12 | | Calli: Hello, I have been entering a lot of date and round data for CG. Problem:
Sub-rounds on scorecards. Some of the old tournaments require a number like "12.2", but four characters are not visible in the "rnd" box. See, for instance, Alapin vs J Mason, 1901 Suggestion:
Make the "Score" box narrower and the Rnd box wider. It is really not a "score". It is a "result". Perhaps replacing the word "Score" with "R" or "Rsl" or "Rslt". All are valid abbreviations for "Result". |

 | | Viewer Deluxe: Hi <Calli>,
I never heard of sub-rounds. I believe the fractional part is board numbers. In fact, as more and more games are made available from bigger tournaments, we recently had one with 120 boards. In that case the box would contain “12.120”. I’m sure we can agree not to try and display it. I find it even more annoying when the site or the event field gets truncated. Let’s face it – if we want a concise game header with brief details we have to compromise.Frankly, you can always “Copy” the PGN source to the clipboard and have the full PGN text. The entire round field will be there if you insist on having it. On the other hand, if you mean to open a bigger discussion, here’s one possible direction. Quite often in various Chess Media we mix various fields into one, for example: site “Geneva, SUI”; player “Magnus Carlsen (GM)” or worse “Magnus Carlsen (2823)”. The last example shows a deep misunderstanding of PGN at all. Even when the standard clearly defined WhiteElo as a separate field, people still go and “improve” it in their own way. For the record, every 101 entry level class on databases will discourage mixing apples and oranges (called Atomicity). The round information above is no exception – board numbers have nothing to do with round numbers and shouldn’t be mixed together. Just my take |

Jan-15-13 | | bondll: Question for Chessgames experts:
In Chess Viewer Deluxe, how do I change the board color from orange to green? Bondll |
|
Jan-15-13 | | hms123: <bondll>
Start here: Chessgames Preferences Page right under your email address you will find this:
<Configure the colors of the chessboard: (optional)
If you want to customize the color of the board, you can do that here.
Dark Squares: #
demo
Light Squares: #
or >
You should be able to figure it out from there--hms |

 | | DrNyet: I have seen mentions of CVD II but no announcement. What was changed? Thanks |
|
Mar-25-13
 | | Viewer Deluxe: No new functionality on the viewer’s side. Main changes are in the browser integration – getting rid of APPLET tags chessgames.com chessforum and improving the game loading time chessgames.com chessforum. The latter makes a bigger difference when entire tournaments are loaded. The boost is modest for loading a single game (the way CVD is being used here on CG.com). |

Jun-27-13 | | hoodrobin: Is it possible to promote to a minor piece? How can I do this (if possible)?
Thank you. |
|
Jun-27-13 | | Shams: <hoodrobin> Right-click anywhere on the board and you'll see the option. |
|
Jun-27-13 | | hoodrobin: <Shams>
Thank you v.m. |

Jul-16-13 | | abscissa73: Hi Nikolai and others, your CVD is great! However, I'm unable to embed it properly onto my website ABHISHEK.MALLELA.NET If you could get back to me for technical issues of downloading pgn, that would be great. Thanks. |
|
Jul-18-13
 | | Viewer Deluxe: Hi <abscissa73>,
Just follow the steps here “How to publish a chess game on your blog” http://chesstuff.blogspot.com/2008/.... If you don’t have a separate page header (aka layout) you can do “Step One” directly in the HEAD tags on the current HTML page. |
|
Sep-15-13 | | Pacificknight: I would like to configure the viewer to load the game at move 19 White to play, every time. How can I do this? |
|
Sep-19-13
 | | Viewer Deluxe: Hi <Pacificknight>, You can do that by creating a custom PGN that includes a startup postion (FEN). CVD allows you to publish it as a puzzle or with all the remaining moves visible. |
