WannaBe: <brankat> I'm headed towards 9 full years. Just 7 at this building.

We have this whole building to ourselves. Lower level is the training class rooms and a huge warehouse where our goods are stored. (We are the west coast hub)

Upstairs are the R&D department. Before we moved in here, we rented a couple of rooms within an office complex down the block. Next thing you know, I'll be celebrating 10 years with this company. =)

The opening is Ruy Lopez, Closed (C84) and black does not have a good percentage in the database.

WannaBe: After 40 minutes, Shredder can't figure out whether to play 0-0 or Rb8. They both have equal weight. I'll let it run a little longer. =)

WannaBe: I must admit, I find it very interesting that Shredder (or the software) is choosing/calculating lines that don't have very good results in the database here.

WannaBe: Another tough decision for Shredder, after 11 minutes, it's debating between Rb8 or Be6 for black's 13th move. I will let the software run a little bit longer.

WannaBe: <LIFE Master AJ> Oh, yes, welcome to my forum. That was your first post (here) if my memory serves me. :-)
Jun-07-06  LIFE Master AJ: Thanks for the info and the nice "welcome," I will be pulling for Shredder. (That's not considered offensive, is it?)

Jun-07-06  hitman84: <WannaBe>How is this being played ? I mean do you just let your engine do infinite analysis of the position and you choose the best line. What if you find many lines with the same evaluation ?
Jun-07-06  hitman84: Is the game out of book yet ?

I hope I'm not being too nosy.
both of you could post the lines with the evaluation of your respective engines. So we would know

Jun-07-06  ganstaman: <hitman84> It sounds like when two lines have the same evaluation, WannaBe is letting it run a little longer until one move pulls ahead. One exception I think I see was in 4...Nf6, which had the same eval as 4...Be7 because Shredder saw them transposing given the best play on both sides anyway. And yes, he's using infinite analysis.

<WannaBe> I'm intrigued by Shredder choosing lines that do poorly in the database. In order to better analyze this situation, I was wondering if Shredder is giving itself a positive evaluation, or if it acknowledges that it is losing (not that I'm saying it's actually losing here)?

Also, if you still have it (or can do it again), what was the evaluation after 1.e4? What moves besides 1...e5 looked good, and by how much were they not good enough to play?

Jun-07-06  Dionyseus: <WannaBe> 1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bb5 a6 4. Ba4 Nf6 5. O-O Be7 6. d3 b5 7. Bb3 d6 8. a4 b4 9. Nbd2 Na5 10. Ba2 c5 11. Re1 0-0 12. c3 bxc3 13. bxc3 Be6 14.Bxe6

If your move is 14...fxe6, my 15th move is 15.Rb1

<hitman84> I was out of book after 12...bxc3

Jun-07-06  hitman84: <Dionyseus>Thx.

I guess you both could analyse it after the game is over so there is no need to post evalations.

Jun-07-06  Open Defence: sorry if I am interupting the game.. whats the optimum configuration for using an engine effectively... I doubt my laptop would do one justice......
