WannaBe: The Open section are using this new gadget, <DrDum> ran off to buy one just now, $359 bucks!! So the game on the internet (ICC?) are live and from the National Open. So, since <DrDum>'s got one, you can follow his 6 PM Pacific 9 PM Eastern game.

They told us, anyone using this gadget, their game will be shown/broadcasted.

I have a photo of it, will post the photo link when I get back home and upload the pics.

Anyway, I won my first game, <DrDum> didn't.

chancho: <WannaBe> My favorite Star Trek episode. The one where Picard was being tortured by the Cardassian who would ask Picard how many lights did he see. Picard would say five and he was right of course. However, the Cardassian wanted Picard to say there were six. Picard resisted the torture and at the very end when he was free to go, he stumbled towards the Cardassian and yelled: THERE ARE FIVE LIGHTS!. Great episode IMO.

Jun-16-06  Chess Classics: Wooh!!! WannaBe! Let's see some dancin' rook!!!

What was your opponents rating?

Regards,
CC

Jun-16-06  buscher07: <Chess Classics> Cool, I am in Susan's tourney which is in the same place. Maybe I will see you there. :)
Jun-16-06  buscher07: Hmm, on ICC it says live coverage, but I am not sure when.
Jun-16-06  sitzkrieg: So where can we watch Dr Dums game live? I dont see it!:(
Jun-16-06  buscher07: Well when you log on to ICC, the top thing says something about live coverage, so I am guessing that if you click on it, it will tell you when you can watch games live, but I am not for sure.
Jun-16-06  NakoSonorense: What? You lost to Susan, wannabe? I have to say that I'm a little disappointed in you...

WannaBe: <NakoSonorense> Yeah, I realized that I screwed up after/around move 11. I then proceeded to go with a bend, don't break defence. That didn't last long. =(

<Chancho> Yes, that was one of the great episode. =)

WannaBe: <Chess Classics> My first opponent was 1300+ like 1306 or something, I have it on record. The second guy, which I lost to, was 1275. But remember, my USCF rating is 652. And I'm playing in the U1400 section. (up one level... If that means anything. =)

I was tired, I was mentally drained from my first game, I was hungry (The game started at 6 PM), I was distracted!

There, that's my excuses, and I'm sticking with it. Well, today I went +1 -1 =0, better start than my last tournament, where I went +0 -5 =3!

Anybody that scores 3.5/6 will get $50 gift certificate to the book store, where they have T-shirts, books, board, pieces, etc. Maybe, even if I don't come in the money, I can try for the gift certificates.

WannaBe: Towards the end of the second game, I realized the only chance I have is a draw, and started playing for a draw. Alas, no go.

I'm going back to the main hall and see if I can snap up some GM/IM pictures. Been busy playing, haven't taken any GM/IM pictures. Also hope to see Susan again and get a picture with her.

Jun-17-06  brankat: <Wannabe> Good start buddy. The initial nervousness must be gone by now. The win also makes You feel more confident. Just stay focused and You will do great. Good luck the rest of the way!
Jun-17-06  brankat: <WannaBe> Out of curiosity, did You tell Susan who You were? :-) Regardless of the score, it must have been a great experience. Plus, You will have a photo and the autograph. Good show!

WannaBe: <brankat> Thanks, I just can't believe that in the second game, all the time I thought it was headed toward an easy draw, then around move 30, I realized that I was fighting to avoid a loss... =(

Yes, I have seen Susan and got a picture taken with her, this was a day after the simul. And I introduced myself, this was around 8:30 PM and she must have just fished up some of the girls' championship work.

She was quite busy, and I was glad she took the time to have a picture taken with me. Then just about 45 minutes ago, I was going into the buffet, she was just leaving.

I wished her a good morning and that was that. Next game for the Chessgames.com's three musketeers (<DrDum>, <MidKnightBlue>, <WannaBe>) starts in about hour.

I'm sure there are some other CG.com members here just that I don't know they are here. Oh, yes, <Eric Schiller> is here too, saw him after the simul. Thursday night.

Jun-17-06  sitzkrieg: In the 2nd game my computer gives you a large advantage if you play 10..a5 to immediately break up whites pawn chain. pitty u didnt win. First game had a very nice queen manouevre to h6. After that your opponent played further far too long if you ask me..

Obviously it was a very good game, one that probably needs better analysis for more than 20 seconds a move :P. I think I'll check those two moves later with longer looks. <WannaBe> Do you have Icer for your Shredder program?
