Jun-21-06  TrueBlue: WannaBe, cool, I am a 3 hour drive from Chicago. So do I need to register or something to attend?

WannaBe: <TrueBlue> If you want to play, yes, register, and sign up with USCF, because you have to be an USCF member to play in (most) tournaments.

If you are just visiting, just go. And do double check with Ms. Polgar on her page that she will be there.

Good luck!! =)

WannaBe: <TrueBlue> I'm an idiot. The tournament is 107th US Open (August 5th to 13th). But the link I gave you still works, just go all the way to the bottom of that page for more info.
Jun-21-06  Dionyseus: <WannaBe> Are you still interested in playing our second game between Shredder 10 and Rybka?

WannaBe: <Dionyseus> If possible, I want to wait until next week. Say, Monday the 26th?
Jun-21-06  brankat: <WannaBe> Thank You my friend. I'm totally overwhelmed! Actually, I really expected a post card from L.Vegas. Not this! It's like I've just hit a jackpot :-) Seriously, this is the best and the most precious present I have ever recieved! I am eternally indebted to You! As Your address appropriately suggests (the apartment/unit number) You really are #111 !! Thank You.
Jun-21-06  Dionyseus: <WannaBe> Alright, any time is fine with me.

WannaBe: <brankat> Well, you did ask for the Fischer books. And those are the only 2 (Fischer books) that I have. So I figured you meant those. =)
Jun-21-06  brankat: <WannaBe> I was just joking then in regards to S.Polgar simul. Didn't think You were going to take it seriously. Must say I'm glad You intentionally misunderstood :-)

So, Your ratings went up from 652 to 829! Now, that's a big jump. After the next event You could easily reach 1,000. Actually, it was a good idea to enter the tourney at a higher level. Regardless of the result, it is the best way to learn and progress. Way to go!

Jun-21-06  TrueBlue: Thanks WannaBe, by the way, did you find out if she has a boyfriend or something?
Jun-21-06  brankat: Now she has ,WannaBe> :-)

WannaBe: <TrueBlue> As far as I understand, from reading her posts on her page, she has 2 children, and is a single mother.

<brankat> Oh, please behave. =)

Jun-21-06  Knight13: <WannaBe> Keep up the good work!

WannaBe: I better do some analysis posting before this forum is overwhelmed with World Cup second round prediction and my next (Shredder) Computer vs (Rybka) Computer match. =) Game 2, in which I lost.

5. d3 I have not seen/experienced this move in the Sicilian, usual move is Nc3 followed by 5...a6 which is what I usually play.

6. c4, there is only one game in the database that follows this line, with white winning V Meijers vs A Stephan, 2002 the game.

7. Nxc6 bxc6 this is what I wanted, it gets my pawns out to play and gains a tempo. Black has a knight and 3 pawns in play, while white have 2 disjointed pawns and a bishop out. And the white's bishop on d3 acts just like a pawn currently.

13. Kxd1, this is another position that I wanted. White can no longer castle.

14...0-0 this was a mistake, shredder and <DrDum> both recommended 0-0-0+ (you don't see that often) as the move for black.

21. g3, at the time, I thought this was going to be a drawn game, which was fine with me. In game 1, I spent a lot of energy and time battling out with a tough opponent. This is my first tournament after 6+ month time off from club/tournament play.

At the time, I welcomed trading off the pieces and get a draw and finish off day 1 of tournament with +1 -0 =1. I contemplated offering a draw at this point.

22...Kf7, I think I should get my king out, more toward the center of the board, I can see white wants to attack my weaker pawn side with white's king help.

26. Kd4, I realized I am losing, trading the dark squared bishop was a huge mistake, this allowed white to have initiative and opposition against me. I am now fighting my life for a draw.

33...Kf7, now I'm in the bend, don't break mode of defence. I am not sure how long I can last in this. I am willing to trade my bishop for the pawn, and hoping I can use my extra pawn as leverage to get the bishop back.

37...Kf6, I'm waiting for my opponent to get over eager and commit a possible blunder. I'm trying to salvage my outside pawn.

39. Bxe6+. Game over. 1-0

Jun-22-06  THE pawn: Fantastic photos you have, WannaBe. Really enjoyable!
Jun-22-06  babakova: What about 10...a5 ? That is the move I would play. Whites pawnstructure is overextended and should be punished. Maybe there is some counter Im missing though.
Jun-22-06  TrueBlue: WannaBe, what's her page?
Jun-22-06
Premium Chessgames Member
WannaBe: <TrueBlue> Susan's page Zsuzsa Polgar

<babakova> you know, I didn't even look at that while playing. =( Just ran it through Shredder, 10...dxe4 is preferred, (-0.87) followed by 10...a5 (-0.67)

Jun-22-06  TrueBlue: WannaBe, I saw your game. You traded too much too early. When you offer to trade, you usually lose a tempo. GMs seldom trade in even situations, unless they get more than the trade out of it.

My advice: Always play for a win. Playing for a draw is just asking to lose. You had advantage at the beginning, but you lost it trying to play for a draw.

Jun-22-06  chessmoron: <TrueBlue> You have to give WannaBe props for going one on one with a World Champion, Susan Polgar. If you were in WannaBe's position, you will be intimidated to play Susan even though you are good at chess.
Jun-22-06  brankat: That's she wore those high-heels:-)
Jun-22-06  TrueBlue: so WannaBe got to play with her.
That's awesome! I would love to play with her! I would say, like: If I win, you will let me buy you dinner :)

  WannaBe: <brankat: That's she wore those high-heels:-)>

Yeah, Yeah!! I was distracted, Ummmmm..... Yeah, I was distracted, she cheated!! She moved 2 pieces while I wasn't watching... Yeah, that's my excuse. =)

My poor play/knowledge of chess had nothing to do with me resigning after move 28!!

Jun-22-06  TrueBlue: and then I will get Topalov on the other side of my walkman :) If he is too busy, at least Cherepinov or Danailov:)
Jun-22-06  TrueBlue: so WannaBe, how did you get to play with her, was it part of the competition?
