| Jul-15-06 | | FICSwoodpusher: <WannaBe> I have a question about IE. Every time I try to download something using IE6 I get this message: "Download failed. Make sure you have cookies enabled and try again." I have tried the suggested answers to fix the problem but it won't go away. Also I am unable to download anything using Mozilla Firefox as I also get an error message. What should I do? |
|

 | | WannaBe: <FICSwoodpusher> I have not seen/heard of this problem (especially for both IE and Mozilla). If the computer is a public one (library, Internet Cafe) download may be disabled by choice. Usually in IE, if you have changed the security setting(s) a little marquee usually comes up right above the address bar, saying click here to start download. Do you remember the specific Firefox error? Maybe that will give me a clue on why both browsers are giving you the same problem. So far, I think it's a setting somewhere on your computer. What version of Windows are you using? One thing to try, instead of left click on the link to download, try to right click and choose Save Target As. Then choose the folder/directory you want it to go into. See if that temporarily solves your problem. If you have modified IE's security setting, try Tools->Internet Option then go into both the privacy and security tabs, click on default setting. And try to download the normal way, see if that works. |

 | | WannaBe: Has this problem always been there? Or has it just recently occurred? |
|
| Jul-15-06 | | FICSwoodpusher: Its my own pc and I am using Windows XP (home edition). This problem has only arisen recently. I can't remember the error message on Mozilla Firefox as it was quite long but I will try to find out what it was. When using IE I have tried different settings including the default without success. |
|
Jul-15-06
 | | WannaBe: <FICSwoodpusher> I have heard that some worm/virus prevents you from downloading (or updating anti-virus softwares) have you checked upon that route? Or better question is, do you have anti-virus software, if so when is the last virus definition update? If you can get that long error message, that would be helpful. If further info from you points towards a worm/virus, I can dig around some more for you. |
|
| Jul-15-06 | | FICSwoodpusher: It seems that with Mozila Firefox there is only a error with some downloads. Usually the larger ones. Also some downloads are fine with IE while others are not. Those which are a problem give errors on both. |
|
Jul-15-06
 | | WannaBe: Okay, so we are getting some more details. =)
You mentioned larger ones, is it like over 2 or 3 megabytes? Or are we talking like over 10, 15, 20 megabytes? What is the error message? And are you using dial-ups or broadband like DSL, Cable TV modem? |
|
| Jul-15-06 | | FICSwoodpusher: Using Mozilla Firefox downloads that are usually 30megabytes or larger have been a problem. With IE the problem does not seem to be size related but probably the downloads do now work from some websites. I am using a dial up connection. Although this might seem to be the reason, this was not a problem before. Downloads would take a long time but there were no problems, just a long wait. |
|
Jul-15-06
 | | WannaBe: <FICSwoodpusher> Um... I am a little bit stumped. What is the free disk space on your hard drive? Is it possible there isn't enough space to hold 30 MB? It would seem to be a rather long shot that it would be the HD capacity. |
|
Jul-15-06
 | | WannaBe: http://search.microsoft.com/results... the link will get to the microsoft knowledge web site, see if any of the article has the error message that you see. |
|
| Jul-15-06 | | FICSwoodpusher: I have enough free disk space.
The error message from Mozilla Firefox says that the file could not eb saved because the source file could not be read try again later or contact the server administrator. I'll have a look at the link but I have a feeling that I might have tried that already. |
|
| Jul-15-06 | | FICSwoodpusher: In IE after clicking on the download link it goes to a blank screen with the message at the top. In Mozilla Firefox it downloads the file then when it is finished the error message is displayed. I had a look at the Microsoft website for allowing cookies but that didn't help. |
|
Jul-15-06
 | | WannaBe: <FICSwoodpusher> It does not seem to be cookie related, since it worked before, and works with smaller file sizes. Now, something I just remembered, old AOL used to behave this way, (if I remember correctly) if you leave the download program alone, after a certain time, it would time-out. Thinking nothing is happening and you'd lose the download connection. I do not know if this a possible cause... |
|
| Jul-15-06 | | FICSwoodpusher: I will have to ask my ISP then.
Thanks for your time, help and forum space :-). |

Hast Du etwas Zeit für mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Denkst Du vielleicht grad' an mich
Dann singe ich ein Lied fuer Dich
Von 99 Luftballons
Und dass sowas von sowas kommt
99 Luftballons
Auf ihrem Weg zum Horizont
Hielt man fuer UFOs aus dem All
Darum schickte ein General
Eine Fliegerstaffel hinterher
Alarm zu geben, wenn es so war
Dabei war da am Horizont
Nur 99 Luftballons
99 Duesenjaeger
Jeder war ein grosser Krieger
Hielten sich fuer Captain Kirk
Das gab ein grosses Feuerwerk
Die Nachbarn haben nichts gerafft
Und fuehlten sich gleich angemacht
Dabei schoss man am Horizont
Auf 99 Luftballons
99 Kriegsminister
Streichholz und Benzinkanister
Hielten sich fuer schlaue Leute
Witterten schon fette Beute
Riefen: Krieg und wollten Macht
Mann, wer haette das gedacht
Dass es einmal soweit kommt
Wegen 99 Luftballons
99 Jahre Krieg
Liessen keinen Platz fuer Sieger
Kriegsminister gibt es nicht mehr
Und auch keine Duesenflieger
Heute zieh ich meine Runden
Seh die Welt in Truemmern liegen
Hab' nen Luftballon gefunden
Denk' an Dich und lass' ihn fliegen

You and I in a little toy shop
Buy a bag of balloons with the money we've got.
Set them free at the break of dawn
'Til one by one, they were gone.
Back at base, bugs in the software
Flash the message, Something's out there.
Floating in the summer sky.
99 red balloons go by.
99 red balloons.
floating in the summer sky.
Panic bells, it's red alert.
There's something here from somewhere else.
The war machine springs to life.
Opens up one eager eye.
Focusing it on the sky.
Where 99 red balloons go by.
99 Decision Street.
99 ministers meet.
To worry, worry, super-scurry.
Call the troops out in a hurry.
This is what we've waited for.
This is it boys, this is war.
The president is on the line
As 99 red balloons go by.
99 Knights of the air
Ride super-high-tech jet fighters
Everyone's a superhero.
Everyone's a Captain Kirk.
With orders to identify.
To clarify and classify.
Scramble in the summer sky.
As 99 red balloons go by.
99 dreams I have had.
In every one a red balloon.
It's all over and I'm standing pretty.
In this dust that was a city.
If I could find a souvenier.
Just to prove the world was here.
And here is a red balloon
I think of you and let it go.

| Jul-16-06 | | suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> Thanks again for Shredder 9. I finally got it installed on my PC. Didn't you say you had a method for transferring crappy Yahoo notation onto Shredder? Do you think you could tell me how you did it? |
|
| Jul-16-06 | | Isolani: From the debut artist WannaBe that was 99 Luftballoons, a song originally performed by Nena (the middle name of lead singer Gabriele Kerner) from Hagen, Germany. This song reached # 2 on the Billboard chart in early 1984. Oh there were so many good one hit wonders in the early to mid 80's. Are you going to cover Der Kommissar or Rock Me Amadeus next? |
|
| Jul-16-06 | | Larsker: <99 Luftballoons> It's a classic from the <Deutsche Welle>. I kinda like it. Compared to your usual run of the mill pop hit, it's not all that bad. |

 | | WannaBe: <Isolani: Are you going to cover Der Kommissar or Rock Me Amadeus next?> No. =) I've always heard that song on the radio, but never figured out who did it, or the lyrics until last night. I also saw the video for the first time on youtube last night too. |
