 | | WannaBe: <hitman84:...Its easy to say I'm a history buff.. but to know the right facts is difficult.> Absolutely correct! |
| Aug-24-06 | | Isolani: <(Probably similiar to calling American natives, Indian. Which genius gave them that name?!)> Speaking of which why is 1 d4 ♘f6 considered an "Indian" Defense system? I heard somewhere that Tartakower originally deemed the name, but if true why did he name it that? |
| Aug-24-06 | | hitman84: It is evident from thier culture and rituals that they belonged to Asia. <THE TEN INDIAN COMMANDMENTS! Treat the Earth and all that dwell thereon with respect!
Remain close to the Great Spirit
Show great respect for your fellow beings
Work together for the benefit of all mankind!
Give assistance and kindness wherever needed
Do what you know to be right
Look after the well-being of mind and body
Dedicate a share of your efforts to the greater good
Be truthful and honest at all times
Take full responsiblity for your actions..... > This very similar to the culture followed in Asia where we worship the sun, cows(hindus) and nature in general. |
| Aug-24-06 | | hitman84: <isolani>Great question!
googling.. :) |
| Aug-24-06 | | hitman84: <Isolani>No luck and I'm half awake.. Why dont you ask Ray Keene or Eric Schiller ? |
| Aug-24-06 | | brankat: <hitman84> <it's easy to say I'm a history buff..but to know the right facts is difficult> To know the facts is relatively easy. Mostly, they are available. One has to invest time and effort to find them. But the real point is in the saying: "It is not enough to know History, it is neccessary to understand it." Give this some thought! |
| Aug-24-06 | | Dozy: Hi <Wannabe> Thanks for your help with the downloads but I've been curious ever since first reading about your family. Whereabouts in this big wide world is your particular briar patch located? |
Aug-24-06
 | | OhioChessFan: I read once that it was simply called Indian (per the country of India) in general reference to its off the beaten path reputation. In the Western world, India used to be emblematic of the exotic, etc. |
Aug-24-06
 | | WannaBe: <Dozy> I am currently located in Southern California, USA. |
| Aug-24-06 | | Dozy: I guess that fits in with <OhioChessFan's> idea of the "exotic" quite as well as India. From this side of the world, looking through a TV-shaped telescope, we get a fairly colourful slant on all things Californian. (We've been on line together a few times and I just wondered what time zone you were in.) |
| Aug-24-06 | | chessmoron: <WannaBe> I hope the third time is the charm. Will you join the basketball tourney? |
| Aug-25-06 | | brankat: <Dozy> <We've been on line together a few times and I just wondered what time zone you were in.)> WannaBe moved from California to <Cyberspace>, address unknown, time zone: $$$$$. <From this side of the world, looking through a TV-shaped telescope, we get a fairly colourful slant on all things Californian.> Of course, You do not believe in what You see on TV, especially about USA/California. |
Aug-25-06
 | | OhioChessFan: <Of course, You do not believe in what You see on TV, especially about USA/California.> <brankat> I agree. California is much more bizarre than is portrayed on TV. |
Aug-25-06
 | | OhioChessFan: <I hope the third time is the charm. Will you join the basketball tourney?> Hey, a personal appeal from Yao. What more can you ask for? |
| Aug-25-06 | | Dozy: <brankat><OhioChessFan>You don't mean that some of that stuff I've seen on TV isn't real? Which bits?
I know about those people who discovered oil in the Ozarks and moved to Beverly Hills, and about an actor who got to be President but somebody took a shot at him, and about how everybody's rich in California (unless they live in LA when they're either cops or pushers) and about a guy called Shrub from Texas (but everybody calls him Dubya) -- and now you're gunna tell me its just not true. How will I know what to believe? |
