Jan-18-06  RonB52734: Other moves for White:

Be3 is definitely a good developing move, but it has no immediate threats. No other white piece can move into its protection (in its new Queenside vision) in a single move, and it cannot be supported anywhere over there in a single move, unless we move both our QR and our N. I would welcome this move as giving us another chance to develop.

Jan-18-06  Robin01: I believe on 14.Ng5, then we play 14...Qd7. If they follow up with 15.Ne6, then I believe we play 15...Bf7. Then they have to play 16.Nxf8, and we play 16...Rxf8 and we are looking good.
Jan-18-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> Yes, I'd say Qd7. Any of those Knight moves for us right now would prompt Qxb7
Jan-18-06  RonB52734: <Robin> I agree with your analysis of white's Ne6 and Nxf8, Rxf8. The development of the R to f8 is better than swapping Qs at that point.
Jan-18-06  Robin01: Well, we cannot swap queens. If we play 16...Bxd5 we lose a piece.
Jan-18-06  Robin01: But after 16...Rxf8 we are still attacking their queen. So they have to move the queen again.
Jan-18-06  Robin01: This is why I do not think they will play 14.Ng5.
Jan-18-06  Robin01: <Be3 is definitely a good developing move> <I would welcome this move as giving us another chance to develop> I believe you are correct. We could probably then play 14...Be7 and develop ourselves.
Jan-18-06  RonB52734: <Robin01> <Well, we cannot swap queens. If we play 16...Bxd5 we lose a piece> Details, details LOL. Good call.

WannaBe: So Ng5 move is a 'ghost' move. We know how to answer that...

I do not see any other immediate move(s) that white can make that will put us in immediate trouble. (Can't spell dillema, dellima, dallima?)

WannaBe: <Robin01> just curious, (your profile didn't give away much.) Where abouts are you at? (Yeah, behind that preposition... =) Right now, it's 8:18 PST, or 11:18 EST.
Jan-18-06  RonB52734: Other moves for White pt. 2

Rd1. Here, I'm still liking ...Qd7 because it permits Rd8. I must point out, however, that having our Rooks on h8 and d8 (ripe for a Knight fork coming from Nf7) AND having our Q on d7 (effectively preventing our King from escaping a Queen check coming from Qf7) we must be vigilant in protecting f7. However, once we play the Bh5 that we seem to have voted for, White can't even get a Knight on g5 right away because of that B on h5. So, for example:

13...Bh5 14.Rd1 Qd7 15.Ne4 (to bring the "other" N to g5) 15...Rd8 and we are still adequately protected on pressure points d6 and f7. 16.Neg5 and now we might get in Be7 or pawn to h6.

So I think we're ok here too.

Jan-18-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> I sympathize with your dilemma <g>
Jan-18-06  Robin01: I am at 10:18 CST. I prefer to stay hidden in the background. You know, so no one even knows I'm around.

WannaBe: <Robin01> Okay, so you're in the mid-west. (I lived in Sioux Falls, SD for 4 yrs.)
Jan-18-06  Robin01: I have been looking at 14.Rd1, and I think I like the developing move 14...Be7.
Jan-18-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> Well, an immediate Ng5 from white threatens to put either the white N or Q on f7. Qd7 is sufficient to prevent that; that's all.
Jan-18-06  RonB52734: <Robin01: I have been looking at 14.Rd1, and I think I like the developing move 14...Be7.> But isn't the problem with that:

14.Rd1 Be7 15.Bg5 (!)

and now we're destined to trade bishops and to lose that d6 pawn (our passer)?

Jan-18-06  RonB52734: <Robin01> is actually the Mayor of Chicago, as well as being <Batman01>'s ..... ok, I'll stop!

WannaBe: time for our counselor to head to bed. =)
Jan-18-06  Robin01: I am looking at variations after 14.Rd1, 14...Bd7, where if white tries to play 15.Ne4, we play like 15...Bf7 and chase the queen followed by advancing our central pawns. I do not know if this is good for us or not right now.
Jan-18-06  Robin01: <14.Rd1 Be7 15.Bg5 (!)> White cannot play 15.Bg5. We just play 15...Bxg5 and white loses a piece. Or am I missing something?
Jan-18-06  Robin01: Batman01 sounds better than the Mayor of Chicago.
