Dec-27-06  technical draw: <Wannabe> You're playing Chicago and then Las Vegas? Tell me something, are you rich?

  WannaBe: <technical draw: ... are you rich?>

No, just saved up lots of money for my 'hobby'. Traveling and playing chess. =)

Gonna be at the Gilbratar tournament in 2008, wanna go/join??

Dec-27-06  technical draw: <Gonna be at the Gilbratar tournament in 2008, wanna go/join?>

Sure! Umm, you're paying, right?

Dec-27-06  Chess Classics: <WannaBe> About 9 months ago I was washing cars and robbing banks in a vain effort to save up for the Chicago Open. Now that I get a steady paycheck, things might be different. We shall see.

Regards,
CC

Dec-27-06  chesstoplay: Hi WannaBe.

My parents are divorced and both remarried.

One set of parents lives in Rapid City.

I've never lived there, but have visited enough times now that I wish we lived there!

I envy your 4 years of living there.

WannaBe: <chesstoplay> Don't envy me, I hated the cold weather. =)
Dec-27-06  chesstoplay: You are right.

I've only been there in the summers!!

I didn't really consider the winters near the Rocky Mountains...

... I may have to rethink that envy.

I like playing the Samisch against the KID. I read in a book that a good way to play it if Black challenges the centre with ...c5 is to play d5 and try to handle it like a modern benoni.

Dec-27-06  Archives: Although it is not a popular way of playing it according to opening explorer.

WannaBe: Okay, I just ran the game between <Archives> and I through the software, and here is what it says...

14...Rb8 <Last book move>

17. Bb5 (-0.87 17. Be2 bxa5 18. h3 Bc8 19. f4 Ned7 20. e5 dxe5 21. fxe5 Nxe5 22, Bxc5 Rb8 23. Bb5 Ne4 24. Nxe4 0.44)

17...Rxa5 (-0.07 17...Bxb5 18. Nxb5 Nc4 19. Qd3 Nxe3 20. Qxe3 bxa5 21. Qd2 Qb6 2. Nc3 c4+ 23. Qf2 Qxf2+ 24. Rxf2 Nd7 25. Rd2 Nc5 26. Nb5 Be5 27. Ra3 Reb8 28. Nd4 -0.84)

19. Nb3 (19. Be2 Qb6 20. h3 Bc8 21. Na4 Qc7 22. Nb3 Bd7 23. Ra1 Rb8 24. Nxa5 Ra8 25. Nc6 Nxc6 26. dxc6 -0.06)

24... Qc8 (-1.98 24...Nd7 25. Qc6 Qb6+ 26. Rs2 Rb8 -3.53) I had a winning game here!!

27...Nxe4 (-0.02 27...Ne8 28. Rc2 -2.59) What was I thinking?!

28. fxe4 (-0.97 28. c7 a3 29. bxa3 Nc3 30. Nxc3 Rxc3 31. Ne2 Rxc1+ 32. Nxc1 Bb2 33. Nd3 Bxa3 34. Kf2 Kg7 35 Ke3 f5 -0.02)

30...Bxc3 (-0.10 30...Kf8 31. Kf2 Ke7 32. c7 f5 -1.35)

From 30... on, there were no moves that was considered to be a blunder by the computer.

Overall, that's a pretty decent game for me, considering that I'm only 2800+ player. (According to <Archives>) but for someone who is eleventy-billion, this must be a major disappointment. =)

Dec-28-06  Archives: Thanks for that <Wannabe>!

<24... Qc8 (-1.98 24...Nd7 25. Qc6 Qb6+ 26. Rs2 Rb8 -3.53) I had a winning game here!!>

Haha, I actually thought 24...Nd7 would be the best move for Black, though I thought it would lead to a roughly equal position after some fudged up line I came up with.

<but for someone who is eleventy-billion, this must be a major disappointment.>

I'm actually quite proud, because for the entire game I thought we were playing Go-Fish!

Now, watch me as I get my behind kicked.

Dec-29-06  azaris: <Now, watch me as I get my behind kicked.>

I was thinking more about playing chess, but we can make it freestyle wrestling just the same.

Dec-29-06  twinlark: Hi <WannaBe>, I had to repost on magilla's forum as I stuffed up the hyperlinks. Just to let ya know in case the posting sequence matters. Delete this message before ya read it. Or is that during?

WannaBe: <twinlark> Of course posting sequence(s) matter!!

I hate it when my check gets posted to the bank before my pay check does.

Dec-30-06  Archives: Man I suck at chess. Picked up a nice advantage on the second move of my game against Wannabe (he tried the infamous Wannabe Gambit). But I've already squandered the advantage away within the first dozen moves

=(

WannaBe: Been a while, so you know what it means...

Time for another <WannaBe>'s Book Review!

'Sea of Thunder' by Evan Thomas non-fiction. One of the best naval history/battle of the Second World War I've ever read. http://www.amazon.com/Sea-Thunder-C...

In a nut-shell, it covers the 4 'main' participants in the battle of Leyte Gulf, two American, and two Japanese commander/admirals points of view are presented, plus their personal history background.

Culminating at the battle of Leyte Gulf, off the Phillipines. Definitely recommended for anyone who's interested in naval war/history and just the whole World War II as a whole.
