WannaBe: In case I forgot, congrats to them Lady Bruins. =)) U. Mich (69-63) won, but the last spread I saw was -6.5, so if you took UConn w/ spread, you got very lucky, if you bet on them U. Mich, I feel bad; the O/U was 148.5

WannaBe: <CIO> LOL. I remember those mems... <chancho> North by Norwest, totally agree, the audiences know that the plane scene was filmed earlier and played on a screen behind. It was still drama. Same thing with the Mt. Rushmore chase scene.

WannaBe: ¡Olé! ¡Olé! this is what I see for "¡Olé! ¡Olé!" (game of the day Mar-13-2026) I also know this issue have been around for a while, and it's not that important, in IT term, it is a level 'C', cosmetic fix. But I just wish to report it again. Can CG.com unify this ...

WannaBe: <FSR> March 11 is his birthday, and usually PoD is chosen from the birth date of the player. So unless CG.com decides to change the algorithm on how PoD is decided. We will randomly get "undesired" player(s).

Dec-24-06  arctic tern: I love Monty Python, but I can see why many don't get the humour. Fawlty Towers seems to me like a show everyone should love though (or at least get).

And let's not forget Yes, Minister.

Derek: 'Red tape holds the country together.' Funniest line ever uttered on TV.

Dec-24-06  Open Defence: <Yes Minister> and the all time classic "When the country is going downhill, Government steps in and presses its foot firmly on the accelerator"
Dec-24-06  brankat: <OD><"When the country is going downhill, Government steps in and presses its foot firmly on the accelerator">

So true. Since the dawn of History :-), and getting worse.

Domdaniel: <Wannabe> Congratulations in advance for the big 10k. I've just sneaked in at the bottom of the frequent kibitzers list, but there's a long way to go...

The elite 5-digit club is ready for you, though. A Christmas Day breakthrough, maybe?

cheers

Domdaniel: <: 'Red tape holds the country together.' Funniest line ever uttered on TV.>

My favorite actually happened during a chess commentary. Kasparov had just pulverized Nigel Short, yet again, and the pundits on the special daily 3-hour TV show (set up in anticipation of a Great British Victory, or at least a Courageously Close Defeat) were all a tad embarrassed.

Enter Jon Speelman, one of Short's seconds.

Presenter:
- So, Jon, what did you make of Kasparov's play today?

Speelman:
- It was theriomorphic.

Pres:
- Er, what?

Speel:
- It means 'a god manifesting in the form of a wild beast'.

[British humour? it's not a bad description of Gazza at his peak...]

Dec-24-06  LIFE Master AJ: Sunday; Dec. 24th, 2006.

WannaBe: Thanks to everyone. I (personally, am not religious, have no affiliation what so ever).

But (probably) the only christmas song that I enjoy is the "Little Drummer Boy". Especially this 'Animaniacs' version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn2A...

May there (someday) be peace on Earth, and good wills towards all. (Except in the case of chess!)

Dec-25-06  Archives: I love the song, "Mary's Boy Child" by Boney M.

And, "Thank God it's Christmas" by Queen.

Hope you have an enjoyable and safe Christmas/New Year period <Wannabe>! =)

Dec-25-06  RonB52734: Merry Christmas, WannaBe!
Dec-25-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> <"Little Drummer Boy". Especially this 'Animaniacs' version> Thanks for that, my friend :) But why did I think of <technical draw> at the end, there?

WannaBe: So, here I sit, in the (empty) office, because I failed to note, that 26th is also an OFF-DAY!!

Going home to do laundry...

Dec-26-06  Zebra: <Wannabe> Snap! Except in my case I knew it was an off day, I just came in to read my e-mail and make a few moves on Gameknot.
Dec-26-06  Robin01: Chicago in May might be possible. The entry fee is a little high though. I'll have to see. Thanks.
Dec-26-06  mack: <British comedy is great... Fawlty Towers, Blackadder, My Family, Father Ted, Little Britain etc I can't think of many great American comedy shows that I enjoy, except for Married with Children.>

You've made me angrier than I could possibly describe by lumping Little Britain and My Sodding Family in with those other three. I mean, it's my fault for being a comedy snob (aka 'having standards'), but it's utterly inexplicable. And the only American show you can watch is Married With Children?!? You what?? Seinfeld? Larry Sanders? Dick Van Dyke Show? Phil Silvers?

Dec-26-06  technical draw: <RonB52734> Three reasons why you thought of me at the end of "Little Drummer Boy"

1. Jesus and technical draw are one and the same.

2. The baby Jesus grew up to be Lord and Savior. The baby TD will not.

3. Jesus opened the eyes of the blind. TD opens the eyes of the chess blind.

4. Jesus said, forgive your enemies 70 times 7. The baby TD doesn't know how to count.

Dec-26-06  mack: <Dom>

The banter during Gazza/Short was fantastic, wasn't it? Two particular highlights for me came in the Commentators vs K+S game:

Nigel Short (on 3.Bb5): That's a vegetarian move.

and

Danny King: How about a lunch break, Ray?

Dec-26-06  greatdane: <But (probably) the only christmas song that I enjoy is the "Little Drummer Boy". Especially this 'Animaniacs' version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gn2A...; Ohhh, that's a pity. One of the best things about Christmas for me is the many nice, sometimes beautiful songs. Anyhow, I just wanted to thank you for linking to this wonderful animation. I like the twist towards the end - a good natured humour that keeps it from getting sentimental. Christmas means nothing for some, and probably a lot of different things for the rest of us. At the core, putting aside the dogmatics of religion, however, it's always a story of peace and love, good will towards men, light and hope for us all. In that sense a merry Christmas - and no offence meant by that word to anybody. Quite the opposite, actually.
Dec-26-06  technical draw: <Wannabe> I might make the Chicago tourney. It will be my first tournament in years so I will try to make it. I might be in Columbus Ohio at that date and maybe I'll just drive to Chicago. I have family in Chicago so maybe I won't need a Hotel. I hope I can make it and meet (and beat) all you pawnpushers!

(And let me take photo, post it on-line! =)

Dec-26-06  brankat: <WannaBe> Belated congratulations for #10,000 !!!

Couldn't you move Chicago a little nearer to Germany?
