WannaBe: I asked AI how many times S. Ohtani has pitched at Coors Field. The answer is zero before today. It may explain why the poor performance, as certain pitch will not behave as one would expect at sea-level. But he must have played at Coors Field, as he was DH last year and LAD visits ...

Feb-12-07  brankat: <WannaBe> Hi, my friend! I wish to congratulate You for reaching yet another milestone: 200 pages with this forum!!! You should ask Your boss for a substantial raise :-)

Did You by any chance follow live games on Saturday and Sunday at <yahoo>? CG Team (Eric Schiller/Bill Wall and mois) against Toga 1.2.1, and Fritz 10. Quite dramatic, especially the second one.

Most of the details are in <chessmoron>'s Profile, plus at least last 10 pages(in 1 day) in the posting area, people commenting, rooting with the games in progress. Very exciting and entertaining. Particularly Sunday's game, great battle, drama, and a heart-breaking loss! Even Fritz's "operator" was rooting for the Team:-)

Also, if you have time and are still interested, we can start playing some more games next week, Monday or so. Take care buddy.

WannaBe: <brankat> No, I unfortunately did not get a chance to follow any of the games, I did visit <wwall>'s posted link (to his web) for the PGN and analysis.

I shall challenge you Monday night (because I'm playing in the U.S. Amateur Team West, link posted a few days ago, with <DrDum>'s team this weekend.)

GameKnot? As usual (7 day/move)? And you'll have 'mercy' on me this time?! =)

I know you won't, and I don't expect anything less!!!

Feb-13-07  YouRang: Hey, what do you think of the Chargers firing their coach after the team had an NFL-best 14-2 record?

I bet Schottenheimer gets scooped up by another team real fast.

WannaBe: <YouRang> From the newspaper article I read, Chargers GM and Marty have an 'icy relationship'.

Then after top assistant coaches left for other jobs, the article writer thought there may be something wrong with Marty's personality and relationship with his fellow assistants/players.

For someone with his regular season records, I think his playoff records should be better. And it's unfortunate that it's not.

Meself, being a Raiders fan, don't have too much feelings either way on the Chargers having their head coach fired.

The timing is interesting, all the 'good' candidates are already taken, to do a search for head coaches and landing a top 'candidate' would be difficult.

Feb-13-07  YouRang: <..there may be something wrong with Marty's personality and relationship with his fellow assistants/players.>

Yeah, I read that too. But I'm curious about what the players think of his firing.

<For someone with his regular season records, I think his playoff records should be better. And it's unfortunate that it's not.>

True. His playoff record isn't that good. But this year they got knocked out by a very good Patriots team in a close game. <It> happens, and not necessarily because of faulty coaching.

<Meself, being a Raiders fan,...> My sympathies. ;-)

Yes, "Commitment to Excellence", just not on the football field.

Feb-15-07  chesstoplay: Hey WannaBe,

I'll see Yury Saturday (2/17) at Cary Grove High School around 3PM for a Scholastic chess tournament (The 2nd Annual Scholastic Tim Just Rule Book Open) awards ceremony and ask him about a 5 PM dinner or half hour get together at the Chicago Open again.

It is going to be a small tournament, but our chess company, Checkmate Chess Supply, Co will be set up from 9 AM to 3 PM if you want to run up and look at a fair selection of chess books or meet Yury. Yury will be there for roughly an hour from 3 to 4 PM.

My concern for the Chicago Open is that once Yury is in OTB game mode, he will be preoccupied. But, Yury is pretty much always "on" when it comes to friends and chess, so he may not stay long for a casual get together before round 1, but he'll still be a lot of fun -- that is just how he is!!

WannaBe: Ahhhh.... Spring Training, pitchers and catchers reporting; the smell of the fresh cut grass, the sound of leather meeting bats and gloves.

The journeymen players tring to make it to the Big-Show, kids looking through the fences at their favourite players.

And the Cubs are already mathematically eliminated from the play-offs. =)

Feb-15-07  YouRang: <...And the Cubs are already mathematically eliminated from the play-offs. =)>

It just wouldn't be baseball otherwise. (Apologies to <cu8sfan>)

Feb-15-07  YouRang: Hi there <WannaBe>. Just wondering: Do you know anyone who has tried using <Windows Vista>? I know two: (1) someone in our office, and (2) a non-work-related acquaintance.

Both have told me that they've had trouble with it. Internet browser crashes, the anti-virus software crashes & other odd things.

WannaBe: <YouRang> We have FC2 (Final Candidate) version in our office, but I have not seen/heard of any issues.

I believe our FC2 were fresh/clean installation, it wasn't an upgrade of an existing Windows operating system.

Will keep my eyes/ears open if I come across anything.

Feb-15-07  brankat: <And the Cubs are already mathematically eliminated from the play-offs. =)>

What else is new? :-)

Feb-15-07  you vs yourself: The cubs have a real chance of getting to the big game this year. I mean, after so many years we got all our key players healthy. Yes that includes Kerry Wood!

Oh wait...

I am just getting news that...

What?!

Kerry Wood got injured while trying to get up from his hot tub? You gotta be kidding me!

It's almost comical how this guy gets injured every year. Hopefully this time he'll be fit when the real action starts and helps lead us to the world series.

WannaBe: Okay, okay... I know I give the Chicago Cubs a lot of grief, (me, being a very serious baseball fan, being on a deserted island, and my TV can only get one sport, I'd choose baseball!).

THE all time worst-luck athlete (vote)...

1. Grant Hill
2. Ken Griffey, Jr.
3. Kerry Wood

Any/all other nominations/suggestions welcomed.

Feb-15-07  you vs yourself: I'd say worst-luck athlete:

Dan Marino.

For his talent and accomplishments, it's almost a crime that he's being seen as a loser. Phenomenal athelte stuck in a bad team. He never had a running game and never really had that great postseason defense.

If it's based solely on injuries, I'd go with Griffey.

Feb-15-07  brankat: <THE all time worst-luck athlete (vote)... >

Paul Keres? :-)

Feb-15-07  NakoSonorense: What about Karl Malone for the worst-luck athlete?

Feb-16-07  you vs yourself: Malone wasn't in a bad team. It's just that he played in the same era as Michael Jordan.

Worst luck athlete: how about Greg Norman? He got beat in the majors by improbable putts multiple times.

WannaBe: Well, Norman can be up there, but in terms of non-self (afflicted) luck, I mean look at the Griffey Jr.

Some have said, he will be the one to break Aaron's record, and what (tragic) injuries has he gone through.

What kind of career would Grant Hill have if he weren't hurt?
