WannaBe: In case I forgot, congrats to them Lady Bruins. =)) U. Mich (69-63) won, but the last spread I saw was -6.5, so if you took UConn w/ spread, you got very lucky, if you bet on them U. Mich, I feel bad; the O/U was 148.5

WannaBe: <CIO> LOL. I remember those mems... <chancho> North by Norwest, totally agree, the audiences know that the plane scene was filmed earlier and played on a screen behind. It was still drama. Same thing with the Mt. Rushmore chase scene.

WannaBe: ¡Olé! ¡Olé! this is what I see for "¡Olé! ¡Olé!" (game of the day Mar-13-2026) I also know this issue have been around for a while, and it's not that important, in IT term, it is a level 'C', cosmetic fix. But I just wish to report it again. Can CG.com unify this ...

WannaBe: <FSR> March 11 is his birthday, and usually PoD is chosen from the birth date of the player. So unless CG.com decides to change the algorithm on how PoD is decided. We will randomly get "undesired" player(s).

Feb-19-07  you vs yourself: +2-3 for me. 2 of the games I lost were against players rated lower than me. Does that mean I suck too? Cheer up <Wannabe>! For amateurs, chess should never be all about winning. It's about learning the game and about yourself.

WannaBe: <you vs yourself> You only played 5 games?! Didn't go for the full 6?! :-)

<chessmoron> This is the JRE right? If so, have you gone to control panel and see if you have a Java icon? And try to 'upgrade' to the latest version of JRE that way?

  WannaBe: Oh, yeah...

Best Team Name, West: e2, Brute?!

Feb-19-07  you vs yourself: Best team name: Beer battered fish.

BTW, we had 5 rounds and it was only for sat and sunday.

Feb-19-07  chessmoron: <If so, have you gone to control panel and see if you have a Java icon?>

I guess I don't have the icon on my control panel. But I try to install it but it fails and gets the message what I wrote above.

Feb-20-07  brankat: <WannaBe> Before I make my move in our new game at GK, meant to ask if You wanted to play any particular Opening/variation, which You may want to practice? Afterall this is for practice, and, of course, You are preparing for Chicago. It would probably be better that way, rather than just a "random" game.

It is perhaps a good idea to choose something You expect to encounter in Your tournament games, and don't feel quite comfortable with. Not much of a point in playing lines and types of positions that You are well familiar with.

It is not really even so much the opening(s) that should matter. You can always check them out in the Opening Explorer, but mostly various types of middle-game positions which stem from the Openings. That's where the games are decided more often than not.

Actually what I was thinking of, is to play a "match" of, say, 4 games simultaneously, 2 with White, 2 with Black. You choose all the variations, leading to types of middle-game set-ups You feel You should practice. We can then make first 5-6 moves in a Blitz fashion in all of them, in an hour or so, to reach the desired positions, and then take it from there. We can even do some analizing es we go. It would be good practice. That's was really the reason why I suggested a few days ago that we postpone the game for a day or two.

Let me know whwt You think of the idea. If You want to try it, then maybe take another day to decide what would You like us to play. Then let me know, and we can start, either Tuesday or Wednesday. If not, then I'll just make a move in the game already on GK.

Feb-20-07  brankat: Still partying after the tournament? ;-)
Feb-20-07  brankat: <WannaBe> WELL?

WannaBe: <chessmoron> I need to google and read up on that... Never seen that problem before.

Not knowing your Operating System, (XP? 2000? ME?) make sure it's compatible with the JRE version AND the installer (version)

Is the installer an .exe? Or .msi?

WannaBe: <jessicafischerqueen> You young'ns... At least when an LP breaks down, you usually just replace the needle or some other cheap internal components, now, a CD player breaks down... =(

Speaking of young'ns, here is a conversation I had recently with a young (cute) bartender...

Me: I overheard, that you play the cello.

Her: Yes! Want to teach music, I attend the local college here.

Me: That's great! I used to play when I was at Wilson High.

Her: I went to Wilson too!

Me: REALLY?! I was the class of '90.

Her: I was the class of '03.

Me: Check, Please!
