WannaBe: I think these names deserve to be nominated for 'Best Team Name' (Amateur Team Competition, West) prize:

1. Vera Menchik Brigade
2. We'll Take a Bye
3. Coach Kramnik says no bathrrom breaks.

WannaBe: In round 1, I was the last of member of my team to finish, in round 2, I was the first.

When I left, <DrDum> was still playing Liz Taylor, wife of IM Timothy Taylor.

And the other two members (Robert, Brett) seem to be holding well, but Robert's got a cramped position...

The guy in the middle, with the yellow sweatshirt (Team Chess Palace), his back to you, is Randall Hough.

Chess Palace fielded 6 teams this year for this tournament.

Long Beach Harbor, my car's antenna is in the middle of the pic :-) http://mysite.verizon.net/jyu1/LBHa...

Feb-18-07  brankat: <WannaBe> Real nice picture of Your antenna! What's next :-)

Regardless of the games' results, You sure scored a nice orange sweatshirt.

Shredder have 10. Qd2 as a blunder, then my own brain freeze, 13. Rad1 pretty much ended it.

Feb-19-07  Shams: <DrDum> congratulations, those are some nice scalps for you! But I must say I can't believe your round 3 opponent didn't play 21.bxa6 e.p. 22.Rxa6 Qxc4.

tpstar: <WannaBe> I can smell a pig from a mile away - Kid Rock, "Cowboy"

Don't fret about losing. =) It takes years to grasp opening theory, and there are always new twists. In the Sicilian, I have fallen for ... Nxe4! Discoveries before, and so has everyone else.

The Yugoslav Attack in the Sicilian Dragon begins with 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cd 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 g6 6. Be3. It is a nice companion to the English Attack in the Najdorf (5 ... a6 6. Be3) and the Pawn formations/attacking ideas are quite similar. After 6. Be3, one stock trap is 6 ... Ng4?! 7. Bb5+ K Rahn vs Rellstab, 1941 & A Ricci vs C Russo, 2001 winning material. So Black usually plays 6 ... 0-0 avoiding that line, and now White plays 7. f3 to prevent ... Ng4 trading off your beautiful Be3. If your next moves are 8. Qd2 and 9. 0-0-0 then you'll have a fine game where the quicker attack wins. But it is definitely uncommon to play f3 combined with 0-0 because that weakens your a7-g1 diagonal, plus it's easier for Black to hit your center with ... d5.

Good luck in the rest of your games. =)

WannaBe: Round 5 result, I lost... Last game starts in 2.5 hours, too disgusted to post PGN.

I just think it's silly that USCF allows foreign (rated) players to play as unrated, but I guess the player can always lie and say they are not rated.

My opponent in round 5 have a provisional CFC rating of over 1750+, he told me after our game, nice fellow, went over the game with me in much detail.

I now have learned another lesson in the Sicilian after ...a6 and white plays g4.

Feb-19-07  chessmoron: <WannaBe> I can't install JAVA because a window pops out saying installation package doesn't exist and the windows installer package is invalid. I already have the Windows installer 3.1 on my computer. I don't know what to do, I'm crying for you help me. :``(

WannaBe: <chessmoron> You don't have Java? Have you tried to re-download and installing it again?

This is the JRE package we talking about right? Not the SDK?

WannaBe: Round 6, instead of admitting I mis-calculated, and just losing a pawn, I lost a piece and a pawn.

I resigned the game. Total tally for me, as an individual, +1 -5 =0 (I suck, totally suck.)

But team is tied for first for the U1400 section, pending on our Board 2, and 3, we may salvage a split, and get 2.5, then we'll have to see how the other team (Vera Menchik Brigade) does...

Feb-19-07  chessmoron: <WannaBe> I have re-download several times and still gets this warning window.
