WannaBe: In case I forgot, congrats to them Lady Bruins. =)) U. Mich (69-63) won, but the last spread I saw was -6.5, so if you took UConn w/ spread, you got very lucky, if you bet on them U. Mich, I feel bad; the O/U was 148.5

WannaBe: <CIO> LOL. I remember those mems... <chancho> North by Norwest, totally agree, the audiences know that the plane scene was filmed earlier and played on a screen behind. It was still drama. Same thing with the Mt. Rushmore chase scene.

WannaBe: ¡Olé! ¡Olé! this is what I see for "¡Olé! ¡Olé!" (game of the day Mar-13-2026) I also know this issue have been around for a while, and it's not that important, in IT term, it is a level 'C', cosmetic fix. But I just wish to report it again. Can CG.com unify this ...

WannaBe: <FSR> March 11 is his birthday, and usually PoD is chosen from the birth date of the player. So unless CG.com decides to change the algorithm on how PoD is decided. We will randomly get "undesired" player(s).

WannaBe: <THE pawn> Bd3 was a doozer... what I get for playing fast, should have spent another 2 days looking... =(

I did spent a while looking at your Bxa2+ and thought it was okay for white. (Hence the sequence of conditional moves I entered...)

That's what happens to 1300+ mouse pusher like me, win a pawn, and then ka-boom. The whole thing blows up in my face.

Apr-13-07  THE pawn: Imagine if you had played 30.Bxc1 instead of Qxc1: 30. Bxc1 Qa2+ 31.b3 Qxb3+ 31.Qxb3 Rc8+ 32.Kd5 Rc5#

WOW! marvelous.

Apr-13-07  THE pawn: Yeah, it is not the first time it costs you a game (I heard).

Btw, forget the annotations in my first post, there are no ( ) so it's confusing...

Apr-14-07  brankat: <THE pawn> You just got lucky :-)
Apr-14-07  brankat: <WannaBe> It is good to see our old friend Joe W. back.

Btw, Sunday afternoon, or so (when I'm done with <chessmoron>'s tourney), I do plan to start a conversation/discussion in <JoeWms>'s forum about the late forties to mid-fifties in the USA (the McCharty era). Since You are a History "buff", You may want to join in.

Thanks, my friend.

Btw, how are preparations for Chicago going?

  WannaBe: What a week...

Had a kitchen leak on Monday, find out later it was in the walls, which means the Home Owners Association will pay for all the repairs. (Thank goodness)

Finally got it all done Friday, now I'm waiting for the drywall to be repaired, the plumbers had to knock a couple of holes to get to the pipes.

Then last night, I ran over something, sounded like a whole bunch of Christmas tree ornaments, and totally shredded my left front tire, got it into the shop so I can replace all 4 tires and get the alignment adjusted.

(The tires were original, after almost 33K, all needed to be changed anyway... But I was hoping to hold out a bit longer...)

And also getting my rear-end wooped on GK's tournament...

Oh well, could be worse, at least I woke up (!!) this morning.

Apr-16-07  midknightblue: Hi WannaBe. I finished with 3.5 out of 7 points in the Foxwoods u1600 section last week. My last round was against a 7 year old. I was up 3 pawns and thought I was completely winning, when he suddenly had his Queen and both rooks pointed at my king, and my pieces were all stuck behind my pawns. He had a draw by perpetual at least, maybe even a win. He missed a critical move and I ended up winning (and he cried). Anyway, that game is nothing to be proud of, so not sure if I will post it here or not. On a slightly better note, I sac'ed a pawn to go down 2 pawns in a french defense, saving an opposite colored bishop ending. That was possibly my best moment of the tourney. That one, I plan to post on your forum, when I get home from work. Talk to you later.

Apr-18-07  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> I have a question for you. Why did you offer a draw in this position?:

WannaBe: <suenteus po 147> The draw in that game guarantees me second place. I will now offer my other opponent in the mini-tournament a draw too. =)

Or also known as, the fear of blundering away a game, and not finishing in an acceptable 'rank/position'.

  WannaBe: Second (tie) place. http://gameknot.com/mt.pl?id=19591
Apr-18-07  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> I do understand your reasoning, and it did pay off. Congratulations on your second place! I knew you could do it ;)

However, objectively you still had good fighting chances to win the above endgame, especially if black had taken the poisoned pawn. But I won't dwell on it if you'd rather move on.

WannaBe: Yes!! "Hot Fuzz" is out today, I'm so gonna see it!! Really enjoyed/loved "Shaun of the Dead". But I think I only got 1/3 of the humor in it...

(And I'll probably miss 2/3 of the jokes in "Hot Fuzz", because I don't get it.)
