WannaBe: <NakoSonorense> Yes, I was watching the game, down at the watering hole...

Hence my late reply of your 2 posts.

Will be in LV for the National Open this weekend, <DrDum> and <whiskeyrebel> will be playing, I will try to post their progress/results and take more pictures.

cu8sfan: <WannaBe: <cu8sfan> Man, you really been to ball (parks) games!! I'm envious...>

Ah, don't be. There was a time when I would plan my vacation according to the MLB schedule. One of the best days was a day game at Wrigley and a night game at New Comiskey Park.

I've been to Candlestick Park, Parque Olympique, Shea Stadium, Turner Field, Wrigley Field, Fenway Park, Yankee Stadium, New Comiskey Park, Safeco Field. And to Minor League games in Durham (Bulls) and Ashville (Tourists).

Fenway Park must have been the best. Parque Olympique the worst but at least I had no trouble getting seats. My first game ever was a Mets vs. Giants game in Candlestick Park.

Jun-07-07  Dr.Lecter: I just played <Wannabe Gambit> on blitz. Was crushed miserably. Curse you, <Wannabe>!

It was funny to see my opponent's reaction, though.

WannaBe: Have arrived in LV, <whiskeyrebel> played a simul against Shabalov, and resigned after 19 moves...

Internet here costs 10 bucks for 24 hrs... =(

And it's spotty at best, my wireless keeps on dropping out on me.

Had minor luck at the tables, won 25 big buck-a-roos!!

WannaBe: My god this connetion is atrocious!! <cu8sfan> that's a lot of ball parks, now I definitely envy you.

<Dr.Lecter> Um... Try 2. Ke3 next time, maybe you'll get better results. =)

Signing off for the night, terrible internet here.

WannaBe: <DrDum> and I both lost, <whiskeyrebel> is still battling it out with Robby Adamson...

Next game in 4 hours, I see the MonRoi people are here, so maybe games are being broadcasted.

Kortchnoi drew a standing-O when he was introduced to the crowd, playing some 2200+ player on board 1.

Some guy named Nakamura is here also. =)

Jun-08-07  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> Good luck in all your games!

That's too bad about the internet connection. In Vegas it should be complimentary <and> spot on.

If you can, try to get pictures of Nakamura, and of Korchnoi scowling at you.

I wish I was there with you guys! :)

Jun-08-07  Robin01: <WannaBe>Do you know if they are going to post the pairings and results from the Open Section on their website? I have not noticed any pairings or results yet on their website.

WannaBe: I stink, I stunk up the joint! Peeee-U!

<suenteus po 147> will try.

<Robin01> It's on the main page of MonRoi now, I just visited it, and it's up there.

WannaBe: Oh, yeah, Ol' V.K. drew his first game, against some 2200+ player...

But he is still on board one, ah, the perks of being worldly famous.

Jun-09-07  Robin01: <WannaBe>But I see you are playing up in the U1400 section, so do not be so hard on yourself.

WannaBe: I am home, and safe...

Raised my rating to 1049, from 1028... All because of this one game, I lost all others, and did not play in round 6, spent my time taking pics and rubbing elbows.

This game, won me the upset prize, as the biggest upset, 3 others were also given out, but their ELO point differential were smaller. I must say, my opponent didn't play well.

WannaBe: As the prize of the Upset Award, I got 8 books, kindly given to the tournament by GM Lev Alburt, 6 of them I already have, (won them last year)

The two new ones are "Building up Your Chess" and "Three Days with Bobby Fischer"

Think I'm gonna start with "Three Days with Bobby Fischer". Should be an interesting read.

WannaBe: My Amazon book order also came in (5 books), now I've got more books than I know what to do with... (Maybe I'll start a book burning bon-fire =)

Think after I finish "Three Days...", I'll read "Einstein", the current best-seller.

And the duplicate Lev Alburt books, gonna donate/give them to the local library. So their book count can actually approach the volumes that I have. :-)

Jun-11-07  suenteus po 147: <WannaBe> Congratulations on your "upset" victory! Also, thanks for the news and pictures. We all appreciate it :)

WannaBe: Few more (last) tid-bits from Vegas, <whiskeyrebel> and I got to shake hands with V. Korchnoi, not, never, gonna wash my hands again.

During the award ceremony, free beers and chips were given out, Nakamura was seen with a bottle of Bud Light in his hands. =)

And Nakamura was the winner in the Open Section with 5.5/6 pts.

<suenteus po 147> Sorry, I couldn't get Naka and Vik to growl for the camera. =)

Jun-11-07  southpawjinx: <WannaBe> Thanx for taking the pic. Too bad, in the blitz to win $ I had to win two more games to split first. The funny thing is, the guy I beat in the 3rd round came back to take the U1100 prize.
Jun-11-07  nescio: <WannaBe: Would <SOMEONE> upload game(s) with WFM Y. Cardona?!?!>

I have found 26 games of one Liulia Cardona, apparently from Cuba. You think she is the one you are looking for?

Jun-11-07
Premium Chessgames Member
WannaBe: <nescio> I've deleted my previous post, because http://www.fide.com/ratings/seek.ph... shows that Cardona, is from Cuba, but her name is spelled differently...

And here is her USCF card: http://www.uschess.org/msa/MbrDtlMa...

So, I'm not sure if they are the same person, or not... =( Be great if that is her, and you can submit the games, so I can give CG.com the picture of her!

She is such a cutie!

Jun-11-07  chesstoplay: Congrats on the upset award!!!!

And great pics, too!

WannaBe: <chestoplay> Thanks you! Saw Tim (again) during the tournament, and of course, had to give him some sheeeet, and tease him a bit. =)
