WannaBe: So, the Tata Steel blitz were held in India, and players have 6 days to fly to NED for the next (or 2026 first) major event... What is the flight path? Here are some ideas: https://www.flightroutes.com/CCU-AMS

WannaBe: So I really kinda sorta, maybe late into the details of that Indiana/Oregon game. But I saw this article: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/articl... The Indiana player whose pick-6 started off the game? D'Angelo <Pond>. Not making this sheet up.

Jun-30-07  ahmadov: Hi <Wannabe>. I just want to ask a question: what do you do to improve your chess? Do you go to a club or learn from a book?

WannaBe: <ahmadov> for now, mostly books, and looking at games here. I try to play in some of the big tournaments a few times a year.

<DrDum> and I used to go to clubs, now only he goes... http://www.chesspalace.com

Jun-30-07  Open Defence: <Wannabe> I suggest playing a lot of games.. but not more than one game at a time.. maybe longer time controls and think carefully about each move..

sorry if I am being a bit pedagogical.... another unwanted piece of advice.. but thats a kibitz aint it ? ;-)

Jun-30-07  Open Defence: hehehe probably <Dortmund> ? ... I think you should try to make the trip to Mexico.. how often would the World Championship have such an interesting field ?

WannaBe: <Open Defence> Will think about it, very seriously. It's not that far from L.A. and I've always wanted to visit Mexico.
Jun-30-07  NakoSonorense: I don't want to discourage you, but I've got only one word for you:

Radjabov

Jul-04-07  midknightblue: Wannabe - as promised here is one of my foxwoods games (sorry for the long delay). I tried to get a little too cute with 11...b5 and didn't calculate deeply enough - as the combination ended with 14. Bxh6 gxh6 and my kingside pawn structure damaged. It seemed like my opponent played pretty accurately through the middlegame and I couldnt find any way to equalize. In the ending, I was proud of saving a draw on move 42...h4!

Jul-05-07  chesstoplay: Hi WannaBe,

GM Akobian that joined us for our chessgames.com breakfast at the Chicago Open won the World Open yesterday in a final playoff game!

Hope all is well with you.

I've thought about going to Mexico City as well to make some international and FIDE connections.

Let me know if you make any finalized plans to go.

Thanks,

Peter / chesstoplay

Jul-05-07  chesstoplay: Could it be that I know and admire the photographer?? : )

Just your photos could make Mexico City worth it, no joke!!

  WannaBe: Dearest Caissa,

I am a humble man, I do not, and have not, asked for much (Okay, that 156 million super lotto was a bit much to ask for...), please grant me these two requests that I so desperately seek.

I shall sacrifice my Queen for your grace.

Ever so humbly your servant and jester in your presence.

WannaBe: <Dr.Lecter> I have resigned the game on GK. Good game, and a hearty hand-shake.

I just wish I had looked at the board a bit longer, and not committed my blunder(s).

Jul-07-07  Dr.Lecter: <wannabe> Good game to you as well. It was an interesting game, especially the freakishly long time control.

I was literally laughing my behind off.

Jul-07-07  chesstoplay: Hi WannaBe,

Our Chicago Open breakfast was part of this morning's conversations.

GM Varuzhan Akobian is staying at Yury's, so I arranged for three of my Cary Kings scholastic players to take a private lesson with him today.

I sat in on the lesson and was blown away by the speed and power of this 23 year old GM.

And he, like Yury, has a great sense of humor.

Yury leaves tomorrow morning to run the Karpov chess camp.

Hope all is well with you.

WannaBe: <chesstoplay> Things are alright, decided to donate 10 bucks (Entry fee) to the local pool 9-ball tournament.

It was double elimination, and I was 2 and done!! (This is the same tournament that I help run about once a month, so I get so see a lot of familiar faces, and show off my pool playing skill. Which is about as good as my chess skills =)

Jul-07-07  chesstoplay: Your chess skills include an <upset> prize now!

I'd be pleased with that award any time!!

Wait a minute... did I just say I'd like an award for upsetting people???

WannaBe: Something (new) you learn everyday:

"Mack the Knife" worldly known by L. Armstrong and B. Darin, was originally a <German> song! (Did you know that??)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZf6... is a clip of the song in German, and if you read the comment section, you too, can look up the details!

P.S. I've always loved this song. I've even sung it once at karaoke, and it brought down the house, and drove out all the customers.
