 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hmmm.. But isn't the <actual book> merely a concocatonation of swirling <quantum particles> which enjoy only a "stastical" actuality? Jessica Hawking (but without the knowledge of physics) |
|
Jul-19-07
 | | WannaBe: Yes, and by studying quantum mechanics, you'd know that by reading one HP book, it is actually affecting all the other HP books, because they are all split off from the same entity! Regardless on which side of the world you're on. :-) (Just learned that last night from my "Einstein" book.) |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Vintage <MannBee>!! Always "one step ahead," as befits a <superhero>. I think you should post a photo of you in your <superhero> disguise. The <mild mannered WannaBe> makes an excellent alter ego, I don't think anyone suspects you are actually <MannBee>. I promise to keep your secret safe!! |

| Jul-20-07 | | Tactic101: The New York times and Baltimore Sun have a nerve to post a review of the last book before it officially comes out. The New York Times should have learnt: they did this with the 5th book and they got succesfully sued for $100,000. |
|
| Jul-20-07 | | Tactic101: And so do the people leaking the book on the internet. And yes, the first leak is definately authentic (NYT says so). These jerks just love ruining everything for us fans. There are going to be some serious lawsuits after this............ This series has been awesome. Starting from Book 4, the books mature into books that adults can greatly appreciate as classic novels....... |

 | | WannaBe: <Tactic101> I don't think NYT cares about 100,000 dollars. If they get sued/fined, they can appeal, they've got lawyers for that. The media, especially NYT doesn't care, nor have they cared, or will care. Their job is to sell papers, whether their stories are true or not, they don't care. There have been opinion columnist (can't quite remember her name) that used elipsis to contort/change a direct quote (of Pres. Bush). After it was pointed out, I think she was then suspended for a week (slap on the wrist. People who do that should be immediately fired.) They've had a reporter who faked all of his stories (Jayson somebody... can't remember the name...) never traveled to the place to do investigative report, faked the whole thing from his own home, if I remember it correctly. NYT, all the <news> fit to print... |
|
Jul-20-07
 | | jessicafischerqueen: So does somebody kill poor <Harry>? I'm not up on the latest from the <blogosphere>. <Tactic> I advise you to go on a "media blackout" until the book is actually published. |

 | | WannaBe: First, baseball and Cycling have 'doping', then football got criminals and dog-fighters, now NBA's gotten into the action with a referee betting on games. I'm waiting to see what NHL* and MLS* is going to pull out of its hat to join the lime light, and draw some attention... (* NHL-No Hope League, MLS-Minor, Lesser, Suckier) |
|
Jul-20-07
 | | WannaBe: Oh, by the way, NBA have had referees indicted on tax evasion charges before. This was about oh... 4 or 5 years ago, where NBA referees would trade their first class plane tickets to business or coach, and pocket the differences without reporting it to the IRS. |

 | | WannaBe: <WannaBe>'s Book Review To give a review on "Einstein" by Walter Isaacson, would be like to describe the history of the world since the dawn of civilization. There are no way, I can summarize a book that is 553 pages long (excluding footnotes, bibliography, references, etc...) in a kibitz'n post. It is a good read, possibly a must read if you are a fan of physics, or just history. Einstein happened to have lived through one of the most tumultous time of the human history, and to read about his life, while looking at the events around him at the same time was a treat. I'd recommend this book to anyone, but I think I'd wait for the paperback, if I were you. Less you want to haul this book around and develope some real bulging muscles on your arm(s). :-) |
|
| Jul-21-07 | | Tactic101: I don't need to! My friends spoiled the ending for me.... But I'm still buying it. Shame......... just when I thought everything would be really exciting...... |

 | | WannaBe: 100 more minutes until HP goes on sale...
100 bottles of beer on the wall, 100 bottles of beer... |
|
| Jul-21-07 | | Tactic101: I'll buy Deathly Hallows probably today. I still don't know how everything comes to be. But I'm a bit unhappy with the ending....... :) |
|
Jul-21-07
 | | WannaBe: The HP book ends on page 564 with a 1/2 page worth of description on the type font used. And yes, it ends with a period! =) Now, 'scuse me while I go and read it! See you guys in about 12 hours... |
|
Jul-21-07
 | | WannaBe: about 1/2 way through the book... |
|
Jul-21-07
 | | WannaBe: 1/2 way mark book review, no, there are no spoilers in this... Edit, Edit, Edit, Edit! Oh my goodness... Please Edit it! J.K. must be getting paid by the word, I remember reading some of the James Clavell (R.I.P.) books, and I swear/know he was getting paid by the word. "Noble House", "Tai Pan", and "Whirlwind" were 3 perfect examples of bloated, long, semi-convoluted books by Clavell. My favourite book of his, is still "King Rat". |

 | | WannaBe: Page 415, a passage spoken by Hermione: "... - Oh, it's all nonsense. Wands are only as powerful as the wizards who use them. Some wizards just like to boast that theirs are bigger and better than other people's." For some reason, I was laughing so hard, butterbeer was coming out of my nose when I read that. Maybe it's the lack of sleep... |
|
Jul-21-07
 | | WannaBe: 100 pages away from the end... maybe then I can get some sleep... |
|
| Jul-22-07 | | NakoSonorense: Is the last Harry Potter book good (aside from the sexual innuendo that made you expel butterbeer through your nose)? I don't know what butterbeer is, but it sounds disgusting, so don't tell me. I thought that I'd die a happy man without ever reading a HP book, but seeing how popular it is, I might as well have to read it just to keep up with pop culture. How many books are there? 3? 5? 15? Would you recommend watching the movie(s) first? Or would it be better to do the reading first and then the movie(s)? |
|
Jul-22-07
 | | WannaBe: <NakoSonorense>
1. There are 7, and the last one just came out.
2. It's quick, painless reading, but I thought book 7 needed more editing. 3. Don't watch the movies.
4. Books 1-5(?) are in paperback, plus libraries have gazillion of copies of them. |
|
| Jul-22-07 | | Red October: hmmm interesting .. I watched all the movies.. never read the books and enjoyed the movies... |

 | | WannaBe: WannaBe's Book Review On HP #7
(NO SPOILERS, I hate book reviews with spoilers, you're reviewing a book, not doing a book report.) Grade: C+
It is tough job, when the whole world (Except <NakoSonorense>) knows it's the last book, and the main question/blogging material deals with which of the main character is going to die, and if HP is one of them. Almost like watching Star Wars Episode 3, where you <KNOW> Anakin is going to become Darth Vader... I felt JK did a good job closing the story, there were biblical references throughout the book, or at least that's how I read/interpreted them. I think most kids will be pleased with the ending, closures for the main characters. Over-all, I'd give the 7-book series a solid <B>. Quick, mindless, reading, but will keep you entertained. |
|
| Jul-22-07 | | Red October: would I cry if I read the book ? no point in reading it if I didnt cry |
|
Jul-22-07
 | | WannaBe: <Red October> Maybe, there was one section towards the end where my eyes got a little misty... |
|
Jul-22-07
 | | WannaBe: The next book review will be http://www.amazon.com/Almost-Miracl... 575 pages, so don't hold your breath waiting for the review. =) |
