| Nov-02-07 | | hitman84: Thanks for the help. I'll figure it out myself. Have fun. |

Nov-02-07
 | | WannaBe: <hitman84> Back... |
|
| Nov-02-07 | | NakoSonorense: If you're ever around campus and feel like playing a game of chess or watching hoops or whatever, just lemme know. |
|
Nov-02-07
 | | WannaBe: <NakoSonorense> Funny you should say/mention/post that... There has been many, many times where I'm by, (on my trips to and from up north, where I take the 405 to the 101 Fwy...) and I say to meself, <NakoSonorense> is at the school, maybe I should just stop by... I am busy this weekend, but next weekend... Now, I'm game, I need some new Bruin T-shirts and sweats... Maybe it's time I take that ol' 405 and visit that bear statue again, and eat some pizza from the student commons... Lunch's on me... (Do the cashiers still ask "Are you a student?" or not??) What's your schedule like around Nov 10/11th?? |
|
Nov-02-07
 | | WannaBe: <NakoSonorense> And, Oh, yes, how was your movie experience? That's your first time in a movie theatre, no? |
|
| Nov-03-07 | | hitman84: Ok here is the problem, I've installed JRE and have both java and javascript enabled in my browser settings. But I'm unable to view the games. |
|
Nov-03-07
 | | WannaBe: <hitman84> javascript does not matter in this scenario, so we can forget about that... If the JRE does not activate, in a Linux system, it maybe user's rights during install, if you use the GUI version of Linux, and did not log-in/use the sudo command, it may not let you use the JRE that is installed... However, I need to research this, may take me a couple of days. Now, when you try to see the games, do you get a big red X? Or do you get anything? I have not tried to access this site on my Linux (Ubutu) machine yet, maybe I'll give that a try... |
|
Nov-03-07
 | | WannaBe: <hitman84> I am logging off, it's past 10 PM, and I'm headed off to bed... will catch up on the posts tomorrow. |
|
| Nov-03-07 | | NakoSonorense: Next Sat/Sun would be all right, I guess. I'm not doing much, just the usual: gym, some tv, some homework, studying, and that's about it. Yes, cashiers still ask that every single time. I don't even know why they do it... Like if they are gonna give me a discount or something... yeah right. We Own the Night was actually the third movie I go watch to the theatre. The first was 300 around April, I think. Then I took my summer school roommate from Korea to go watch Die Hard or Live Free. |
|
Nov-03-07
 | | WannaBe: <NakoSonorense> I believe, students don't pay taxes on food... Dunno why. But that's the reason they ask. We'll set up a definite time/date later in the week. |
|
| Nov-03-07 | | NakoSonorense: I see. I'm not sure, but I think I've also been asked that when I buy non-food stuff, too. Sounds good, we'll set it up during the week. |

Nov-04-07
 | | WannaBe: Today's book review, is "Troublesome Young Men" http://www.amazon.com/Troublesome-Y... by Lynne Olson, I gave it a solid 'A'! The book isn't as much about W. Churchill, as it is about the people who banded together in '40 and toppled N. Chamberlain and thus, enabled Churchill to become the Prime Minister of England. The characters in the book, includes Boothby, Eden, Macmillian, Cartland, Churchill, Chamberlain, Amery, and cameo appearances by Hitler, Mussolini, FDR, King George, etc... The book offers insight and personal histories of the rebellion individuals as they progress through their political careers, starting at school and later as members of the parliament. (The book covers some of parts of WWI, Boer War, WWII, and ends with Perfumo affair...) Very good read, think it only took me less than a week to go through this book, fascinating history, both world-stage, and personal lifes... Never knew about Boothby, Macmillian's personal life, a rather 'strange' if not, a very 'inconvenient' personal relationship... Next book review, "Sin in the Second City" by Karen Abbott. http://www.amazon.com/Sin-Second-Ci... |

| Nov-04-07 | | Zebra: <Wannabe> What is the approved way of restarting services like telnet on a Unix machine? I just edit inetd.conf and reboot, but there must be a better way that doesn't involve rebooting. Hope you don't mind me picking your brains on a non-chess-related topic :) |
|
Nov-04-07
 | | WannaBe: <Zebra> Whether the system is GUI or not, you most likely don't need to reboot... I am using Ubuntu for our application at work, so I'm using that as a guide(line), if you go to System->Administration->Services there's a list of what's available... From command line, it's sudo services-admin in non-graphics mode, things gets a little more complicated. If this quickie tip doesn't help, try the help file that's with your system, I know there are many, many flavours of Linux that packaged and sold. Or downloaded and installed... Too many to count with my fingers + toes. |

 | | WannaBe: Dallas C'boys are putting a whooping on the Eagles... |
|
| Nov-05-07 | | Zebra: <Wannabe> It's actually Solaris, and I basically do everything from the command line. But thanks, you have given me some leads to check out. Actually rebooting is fine (as there aren't many users), but I am just curious how it really <should> be done. |
|
Nov-05-07
 | | WannaBe: <Zebra> Talked to someone here at work, who is a lot more better with these *nix systems than I am... On some system, the inetd.conf file is monitored, if its contents are changed, it will automatically start/stop/restart the necessary process(es). However, if this does not work or is not automatic, he said to try this: kill -hup [pid or name]
then it will tell the process to wakeup and check its configuration and do what's necessary. And it will avoid a machine reboot... Hope this helps. =) |

Nov-05-07
 | | WannaBe: From reading "Sin in the Second City", now I know where the drinking champaigne from women's high-heel, and the term "getting laid" comes from. =) About 1/3 way into the book... Very entertaining, if not educational... Wish I had read this book <BEFORE> my earlier trip to Chicago this year. |

 | | WannaBe: NCAA teams that I'm rooting for, Kansas & Hawaii, I want to see them go undefeated, and in the BCS Championship Game. If that doesn't happen, then I want 7 or 8 good teams to end up with 1 loss. Maybe all the top 10 teams to end up with one loss. Hey, NCAA, why is Division I-A football the only sport, where the champion is not decided by a playoff system?? Why can Division I-AA, II, III, NAIA football all have a playoff?? |
