Jan-22-06  Robin01: <I think if 17...Be7 18. g4 exf4 19. Bxf4 g5> What I do not like about this line is putting their bishop on the h2-b8 diagonal.
Jan-22-06  Robin01: I see no benefits right now of taking the pawn on f4, because we then develop their bishop for them, and on a good square at that.
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: actually I think 18.g4 is fine for us if we don't take the bait. Something like 18...Rd8 looks fine.
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: <Robin> <h5> yes, I like that very much, too.

Ok, folks. Shall we have a head count on Be7?

Jan-22-06  Robin01: 17...Be7 is my vote.
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: ...Be7 is my vote too
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: <Robin01: I believe one positive for white in this position is that their king is much safer than ours.> Until we can push d5 and/or open the h-file. Then...
Jan-22-06  Robin01: We need to try to figure out a way to start trading pieces without compromising our position.
Jan-22-06  Robin01: Yes, d5 or opening the h file would probably be good for us. We just have to figure out how to do that safely.

WannaBe: Yep, Be7 is my vote.
Jan-22-06  RonB52734: Ok, <WannaBe> said <I'll go with Be7> and <Nako> said <Sorry, guys. I don't have much time right now. 17...Be7 looks fine to me.> <Robin> and <I> have voted Be7, also. I'm going to go smoke a cigarette. Any final objections should be posted immediately or I'm posting our move.

Jan-22-06  RonB52734: <"Youts, what are youts?"> One of the funniest courtroom scenes in movie history!

Ok, I'm posting 17...Be7

Jan-22-06  RonB52734: LOL after 2+ pages of NFL discussion on <me to play>'s chessforum, the FEN diagram has disappeared from his profile! Do you think he expected us to forfeit on time?

Nah...I figured you would be posting soon...so I went into a "holding pattern" :)

Sorry about that :-) Your forum was just the place where the conversation started to happen.

I've switched further info to the Emp's forum.

Jan-23-06  RonB52734: I'm predicting we'll see b3 and Bb2 from White before long.

WannaBe: If b3 is a prep move for Bb2, the knight on c3 has to go somehwere, Nd5 Bxd5 Qxd5 is a possibility.

Or, Nb5, but we can play an early a6 to prevent this, if necessary.

swing that black-squared bishop out to f6.

Random thoughts. While I'm taking a break from reading more patents...

Jan-23-06  RonB52734: Well, I guess they can't play Bb2 until they've dealt with their f-pawn in some way, or we could just take it. More thoughts later....
Jan-23-06  Robin01: I see it is still quiet today. That is good news. I guess we got them thinking.
Jan-23-06  RonB52734: Very quiet. Fortunately, this is one of my rare nights at home, so I'll be able to respond if they do get around to moving. Since we usually have a Tuesday night tournament going on at the Pgh. Chess Club, I usually hole up at home and play a game or three on the Internet to tune up.
Jan-23-06  Robin01: Well, I do not see us having to reply until tomorrow now if the move they make is complicated. This is what I meant before about the other team waiting too late in the day to make a move, and then us having to make a reply in just a few hours. This is why I like the 24-hour rule. Meaning, we have 24-hours after the other team moves to make our move.
