Jan-23-06  RonB52734: Ok, strike out 18...Be6. Good catch, <Robin>

  WannaBe: I think, if 18...Nb4 19. Qd2 followed by 20. Rfd1.
Jan-23-06  RonB52734: <Robin01> I don't like 18...Nb4 because 19.Qb5 Qxb5 20.Nxb5 and then, how do we prevent Nc7+? I think at best this loses a pawn, too.

WannaBe: I'm gonna go w/ Rd8, it lets us put another piece into play.
Jan-23-06  RonB52734: Oh, maybe not.... Nc2 instead of QxQ
Jan-23-06  RonB52734: I need sleep. I'll look at this again in the morning.

  WannaBe: G'night <RonB52734>.
Jan-23-06  Robin01: 18...Nb4 creates a lot of tactical shots by both sides. If we try it we have to be very careful. I looks like fun thought. However, 18...Qe6 and 18...Rd8 are probably safer for us. At least I think so.
Jan-23-06  Robin01: I will analyze yet for another hour or so and then sleep on it.
Jan-23-06  Robin01: "though" and not "thought". I cannot type tonight.
Jan-23-06  Robin01: We still have two other players who have not given any lines or opinions on the position.

WannaBe: <Robin01> aye, <sitzkrieg> and <NakoSonorense> has yet to check in, maybe <Nako> is busy w/ school. Best if we all sleep on it, but I'm leaning towards Rd8. =)
Jan-24-06  Robin01: I like 18...Qe6 better than 18...Rd8, but I am still looking at 18...Nb4.
Jan-24-06  RonB52734: ...Rd8 has the benefit of being more flexible and possibly allowing any of the other lines to develop.

18...Rd8 19.Nb4 (threatening a7) 19...b6 20.fxe5 and now I think we're better taking with 20...Nxe5 or our Knight gets stranded later. 21.Nxe5 dxe5 22.Qxd7 Rxd7 and I think we're fine.

On ...Nb4, I think they do have to play Qd2 or Qd1 to protect against ...Nc2. Unless we attack quickly with something (and I don't see anything except maybe Bg6), then a3 is likely to follow. That puts us right back where we started. In other words, our move after Nb4 has to either be a strong attack, or else one of the 3 moves that saves our pawn. Also, Nb4 weakens our a7 pawn.

So I like Rd8 better.

Jan-24-06  RonB52734: And I do like Qe6 better even than Rd8.

WannaBe: Qe6 does give us the option later to move the a-Rook out and possibly slowly, if need be get our king behind the pawn on the queen-side.

WannaBe: Ah, very well, I'll go with Qe6.
Jan-24-06  RonB52734: 18...Qe6 19.f5 Qf6 does not work because 20.Ne4.

So if 18...Qe6 19.f5 Qc4

Jan-24-06  Robin01: Where are our other two team members?
Jan-24-06  RonB52734: Good question. We have "all day" to post our move, but I will be completely unavailable from 5:00 p.m. to midnight, Eastern Time.
Jan-24-06  Averageguy: <Wannabe> After seeing your game on <aw1988's> forum, I was wondering if you would like to play a correspondance game with me?
Jan-24-06  RonB52734: I'm still looking for ways to refute 18...Qe6. Haven't found one. But another possible follow-up is: 18...Qe6 19.Nd2 d5. Now, taking on d5 will cost them a piece for a pawn. So 20.f5 Qd7 (not ...Qd6 because of Nb5) and this looks ok.
Jan-24-06  Robin01: Well, I guess I will cast my vote for 18...Qe6 in case I do not get back for a while and you want to post.
Jan-24-06  RonB52734: <Robin01> Ok. I saw that <sitzkrieg> posted something on the <me to play> page not too long ago, so he's online. But he's got a lot of reading to do over here.

I also vote for ...Qe6. And if we get past 5:00, remember, someone else is going to have to post our move for us.
