keypusher: Nice to meet you, Jimmy! And the pictures look good, even the ones of me. I finished with 3 1/2 and played some interesting games, so I am pretty happy with the tournament. I had to leave in a hurry after getting squashed in Round Six because my wife had left her wallet in our hotel and was out on the Strip with no money, which is not a good state of affairs. Anyway, sorry I didn't get to say goodbye.

Not if you're a few blocks away with a credit card, alas... Not that I have anything to complain about. She didn't buy hardly anything there, while I went nuts on old tournament books. Neither one of us gambled so much as a nickel, come to think of it.

Jun-10-08  Travis Bickle: I was looking at your nice pictures from the Las Vegas tournament. You look different in person than your avatar. ; P

WannaBe: Ouch! I lost 42 pts from the Las Vegas tournament... I'm now officially in the negative territory. =(

Which really sucks, since I had 2 won games, only to <BLOOOOOOOOOW> them both. *sob*

WannaBe: Wooooo.... Tempting, have to try it out on the next OTB tournament!! :-)
Jun-14-08  whiskeyrebel: Hey pal, you were a great roomie in Vegas, even if you did flood the room, shortsheet my bed and fill my boots with shaving cream. Next year I'll retaliate with the old live crawdad in the sock drawer bit.

WannaBe: <whiskeyrebel> You better bring an ol' Texas (extra large) sized rattle snake!! =)

Then we'll see how much 'fun' we can have in the tournament hall!

Jun-14-08  Open Defence: heh! better yet a burmese python
Jun-14-08  Toppleton: Yah a constrictor is all good fun after all. A good defense could be made in court I bet, which would be hard to do in the case of loosed cobras.

Here's to enjoying the whole chess experience! Not just the games but the people, the personalities, the ambiance of a tourney. I think it's a "low-key blast."

WannaBe: Alright!!! Got Apache 2.2.0, MySQL, <AND> PHP 5.0 installed on my Vista!!

Woo, woo!! (Dang thing only took me 1.5 hours =)

Jun-18-08  Travis Bickle: So Bugs er.. WannaBe you have Vista? Well you are a software engineer. ; ) In your opinion what is Microsoft and Gates going to do about all these Vista problems. I have to admit I want to get a new comp and I dont how to use Mac, so whats in store for the future? Your pal Travis

WannaBe: <Travis Bickle> Buddy, well, it all depends on what you want to do with a computer (new or not...)

1. Vista is truly terrible, Gates and Microsoft will have to go back to the drawing board on this one, this product's failure or 'sucky-ness' is on par with Windows ME (Millenium Edition).

2. If you can find a refurbished/used with Windows XP. Get it, XP is actually faster booting up and shutting down, and get things loaded into RAM.

3. More RAM will make your PC run faster, less disk swapping time (if you have a lot of things running...) so, if you can get a Windows XP, and it have slots for more RAM(s), get yourself a Gig of RAM, or two 1-Gs, (and throw the old 512 RAM away, or the 2-512s away, or donate them to your local school)

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more help/details. =)

Jun-18-08  Travis Bickle: Thanks WannaBe, I was 1 of the unfortunate suckers to have purchased Windows Millenium about a year before XP came out and I never got around to upgrading mine. Now I figure this comp is too old to put money in it. I really only use a comp for chess related sites such as Chessgames, Playchess, ICC, chess dvd learning software, emailing friends, research, and sometimes making cd's.
