  WannaBe: <Travis Bickle> I see no reason why XP can't do/handle what you need...
Jun-19-08  ravel5184: <WannaBe> Just off topic, but what's with your username? Seems a little non-chess-related. Of course, mine is probably no better ...

  WannaBe: <ravel5184> Well, before I decided to join and was thinking of a name to go by, I read the 'User Name Criteria' section, and I was thinking to myself, I wanna be a better player... =)

Jun-24-08  sitzkrieg: wannabe, do you maybe know how to convert pgn files into pdb files?

(if possible I want to create an opening book for open chess on palm, but I have no clue on how to put it in PDB format)

I know you know (almost) everything about technology and computers so I thought I 'd ask you:o

  WannaBe: <sitzkrieg> The only thing I found online is for Protein Data Bank file format...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Protei...

I'm not sure if this is the right thing that you're asking/talking about. =(

Jun-24-08  sitzkrieg: haha:o no I don't think that is it. Meanwhile i found some more info on it;

http://palmopenchess.sourceforge.net/

I think it is the extension given to documents for the palm pocket computers, amongst other for the opening book files of the palm version of the open chess program. I think I'll apply for the conduit/tools test thingy and find out more!

Thanks anyway!

  WannaBe: Personal favour...

I came across this question on a 'test' for job interview:

Using Java, what is/are the differences between these two declarations:

1. String a = "String";
2. String a = new String("String");

My answer was, <NONE>, let the compiler handle it.

a, is/are there any differences?
b, why, (all of a sudden) low level handling of declarations of variables so important in the age of massive RAMs and high processor speed, and compilers that is designed to optimize your code??

  WannaBe: From what I know, when the BoSox wins, they play a song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a65H...

Now, this song, (which happens to be one of my favourite oldies...) was originated by <THE STANDELLS>: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5apE...

'N now, the present day Standells: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqgK...

Ahhh... but I still love that River Charles, (which does run through Boston!!)

  WannaBe: Random observations:

From my e-mail accounts, both @ home and @ yahoo.com...

I'd get a flood of junk mails, and then when the Admins catches on, they'd cease to reach my mail box.

Then about 3 maybe 6 days later, I'd get another flood of junk e-mails, viagra, Cialis, Lottery, Male Enlargement, make money quick, make money at home, etc... etc... etc...

You name it, I've (got) received it!

Conclusion... Them hackers are still a step ahead of the system admins, until there is a 'fool proof' way, (do you still get junk mail through your regular mail/post service????) we have no way of stopping these spams.

Jul-01-08  Travis Bickle: <WannaBe> Yeah I got alot of junker mail too. I find if you change your email address you've had for a long time and maybe use a few others from different providers the clutter cuts down a bit. Example I used to use AOL for years and I left that account open though I dont use it. I went to gmail and another mail provider. My spam still piles on to my now (semi extinct AOL account) and my two other ones are freer. But we'll never get rid of these animals stuffing our mailboxes with this annoying junk unless we can develope a cyberspace dynamite hahaha.

P.S. on the subject of cialis, viagra,
and male enhancement, wouldnt you just know a guy like Hugh Hefner whos had a zillion women after he created the Playboy empire, now when he gets old they invent products for him to go at it until he dies with a smile on his face haha. Some guys live charmed lives!

On a side note, here is what happens when you over-expand: http://biz.yahoo.com/rb/080701/star...

Jul-01-08  ravel5184: <WannaBe> On my chessforum! Chessgames.com says you are allowed to play correspondence games over the internet on your chessforum! Would you like to play? P.S. What is "GameKnot", anyway?

I said hoot.

HI <mANNbEE>!!!

Jul-03-08  micartouse: <WannaBe> Your profile mentions you're a small business owner. If you don't mind me asking, what sorts of things do you do? I'm just curious because my brother and others in my family have small businesses.

hoot

Jul-04-08  micartouse: <jfq> Of course. No respectable business plan is complete without them.

<WannaBe> Well, best of luck getting back into programming if that's what you're hoping for. I'd think entrepreneurial experience would enhance any resume even if it's non-related.
