 | | WannaBe: Rumors are spreading that the fires are arson related... |
|
| Nov-16-08 | | brankat: Is it in southern California? For some reason I thought it was San Fran area. |

 | | WannaBe: <brankat> It's SoCal... |
|
| Nov-17-08 | | NakoSonorense: Why do we have to have so many fires here in SoCal? It's the same thing year after year... Over 800 houses have been burned down already and it's only 19% contained. "It's an interesting chess game right now, sometimes Mother Nature puts us in check, and our job is to put her in checkmate." -Capt. Guy Melker of the Los Angeles County Fire Department |

 | | WannaBe: Errr...
1. We don't put Mother Nature into a checkmate situation. Mother Nature can turn very nasty... 2. SoCal is a <DESERT>!! People need to wake up and realize this. We've not had any measurable rain fall for who knows how many years now. The city of Long Beach keep on asking us to conserve water, but yet keep on approving more apartments/condos to be built. (That's logical... bring more people into a tighter space). 3. Santa Ana winds, which blows in from the high desert area, and brings this nice, warm, air that doesn't freeze us to death in the winter time. However, due to the dry weather, and the dried out tree branches, they fall down, or the cracked ones rub against each other. And with eucalyptus tree, they are high in oil content, and very, very flamable. Add all ingredients together, and voila!! Fire season. Now, when it does rain, due to the dry ground, and lack of vegetation, the water does not get soaked into the ground fast enough, hence run-off of excess water. And what do you have? Mud-slide in Malibu, up and down Pacific Coast Highway! People just shouldn't clear land/ocean front properties and live there. We are guilty of it, and so are the ones who live in low-lands of Lousiana, and off the coast of Florida, because of hurricane. |
|
| Nov-17-08 | | brankat: Well, hopefully things will soon be under control.
But, as You mentioned in the post in Your forum, due to the nature of the region, and to less than desirable human routines, there is a need for a long term solution, if there is one. Otherwise this kind of a thing will be happening again, and again. |

| Nov-17-08 | | Pyke: Hello <WannaBe>,
thank you for the game challenge on my forum.
I accept it gladly.
I am just right now creating an account on Gameknot, so we can play there if you like. (My handle there is: PykeCG) Longer time controls are fine with me: What about 5 days per move? Hope to see and play you soon! |

 | | jessicafischerqueen: Hi <MannBee>!
I know everytime I have a computer question I come whining to you... But you are the most computerist man I know.
OK I had very slow internet speed suddenly hit me last night- and then I tried everything- Restarted router
Checked on a free floating wireless connection after unplugging my cable connection-- just as slow- So I freaked and thought OK that must mean my Puter is broken. So then I tried system restore with setting of 24 hours ago, and it worked. Now my Speed is back to normal.
Does this mean my Hardrive is fried?
Does it mean that Malware is killing me?
Have you ever heard of system restore fixing a screwed Internet speed before? If system restore worked, what does that mean?
Mrs. Fried. |

Have you ever heard of system restore fixing a screwed Internet speed before? If system restore worked, what does that mean?> No, your hard drive is OK. It does point to some malware/spyware/adware issue, or awfully suspicious... Be sure to have these 2 items installed, and run daily scans, they are both free: http://free.avg.com/download?prd=afe
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/pr... The avg will take care of the viruses, and will also scan e-mails, the defender will take care of the mal/ad wares. If, by restoring your system to one that was saved 24 hours ago, something must have happened inbetween. (I learned this from reading Sherlock Holmes). So, did you let someone else use your computer? What pages or e-mails did you open? Did you happened to installo any new programs? Did someone give you a flash drive with documents on it and you opened it? But now, it's back to normal, so that's good... You know you have a good restoring point of your system. |

| Nov-27-08 | | NakoSonorense: Sorry to hear that the pub-business is not going well. Times are harsh right now. I'd go, but I don't have any means of transportation and I don't know how to get down to Long Beach by bus/metro. Besides, the quarter is about to end, so I need to buckle down for the next 2.5 weeks. I'll try to pay you a visit next year, though! I still have no idea what I'm doing after graduation, which is in June of next year! Time flies. I don't know if I'll be able to find a job in the financial sector or a related field. I thought I had been smart for choosing such a practical major as mathematics/economics, but I'm not too sure anymore. Things were not that bad a couple of years ago. I want to go to business school (hopefully UCLA Anderson!) but it's a bit late to apply since I haven't taken the GMAT and don't have any relevant work experience. I'll have to wait a year to apply. In the meanwhile, I'll be living under a bridge near your house... So watch out! :) |

 | | WannaBe: <NakoSonorense> Hopefully things will look up next year, either the recession will run its course, and things will get better, (then again, things could still go completely the other way) I will keep you in mind as time progresses, no promises, though! :-) |

| Nov-28-08 | | hangingenprise: Where is the location of your establishement in Long Beach?
I will be in town and would like
to watch SC, the real football
team, beat that team from Indiana.
I know it's not that other Pop
Warner team from Westwood, I
still can't think of there name!?! |
