| Jan-26-06 | | sitzkrieg: I have no clue what they gonna play next if i had to guess i d say they have a plan with fxe5 and blockade with Ne4. |
| Jan-26-06 | | sitzkrieg: Ok guys im going to bed. I will vote for Rc8 Rd8 or Rf8, depending on what vote is needed for a majority:). If u see <emperor> around send him to bed.
Good nite! |
| Jan-26-06 | | RonB52734: Ok. Looking at this some more, I'm convinced we have enough time to make the move of our choice. No single move is essential right now. So I'm looking at the position and wondering what move gives us the most flexibility going into the future. I'm convinced that Rd8 is coming, and is very threatening, so Rc8 looks like a wasted tempo. Rd8 right now, however, is premature as long as their B can come to b6. If we have to play Rd7, our King is squeezed. Regarding Rf8, as I said earlier, I'm not entirely sure yet that our h8 Rook wants to leave the h-file. It may get into the game more quickly and decisively there. An immediate Bg6 either forces exchanges, which I think we're happy to accept, or it forces their Queen to retreat, keeping us with the initiative. Wherever she goes, we may get in e4 right away. Soooo... whaddya think about Bg6? |
| Jan-26-06 | | sitzkrieg: Still somewhat awake..
And Bg6 looks good too. Damn they got us. We have so many good moves that we cant make a choiche. |
| Jan-26-06 | | NakoSonorense: Aside from driving off the queen from d3, I don't see any other advantage with Bg6. I think we have to make a rook move here. Rf8 is the best-looking move to me. Since there are two options for the a-rook, maybe we should wait until we see what their plan is. Then, we can choose between c8 and d8. |
| Jan-26-06 | | RonB52734: I'm ok with Rf8 |
Jan-26-06
 | | WannaBe: I agree with <NakoSonorense>'s assessment. My vote will be Rf8. |
| Jan-27-06 | | NakoSonorense: If Rf8 happens to not be a good move, just don't blame me for talking you guys into this. :) |
| Jan-27-06 | | Robin01: Hello all. I have been peering deeply into the position. I can truthfully say all three rook moves, 20...Rc8, 20...Rd8, and 20...Rf8 all look playable to me. However, having to pick only one, I go with Rc8. |
| Jan-27-06 | | Robin01: I am look at their response of 21.Bd4 also, since to me that looked threatening earlier. I do not think that move is too good for them. However, if they play it, then we might have to move the rook again to d8. That does not lose us any tempos, though, because then I believe they will have to move the bishop again. They cannot take on e5 with the bishop because the ensuing exchange of pieces favors us as far as I can tell. |
| Jan-27-06 | | Robin01: So I vote for 20...Rc8. Second, I vote for 20...Rd8. Third, I vote for 20...Rf8. Again, I really cannot find anything wrong with any of those moves. |
| Jan-27-06 | | Robin01: I guess my final decision is based on the fact of the open c file, and the fact that their knight is on the c file and only protected by the queen. |
| Jan-27-06 | | RonB52734: I'm going to vote for Rf8. This may be the first time we haven't been unanimous, or at least the first time in quite a while. I'm going to hold off on posting the move until I get to work. I have to say I don't see any major problems with any of the rook moves but I'm not firmly stuck on any of them, either. I think Rf8 has three slight edges. (a) They have passed by the chance to have a rook on that open c file (b) If Rc8 and then Rd8, we have at least passed up the opportunity to improve another piece on the move we used for Rc8, and (c) they do have a rook on the f file, which looks to be opening up before long. |

Jan-27-06
 | | WannaBe: Yeah, it's their turn to find the best move to counter our best move that countered their best move. :-) |
| Jan-27-06 | | RonB52734: We need a long term strategy to counter their long term strategy :) Well, it's Friday night, and I'm off to happy hour. Cheers! |

Jan-27-06
 | | WannaBe: Drink one for me. :-) |
| Jan-27-06 | | NakoSonorense: make that two. |
| Jan-27-06 | | sitzkrieg: Make it 10 and drink 8 for me. |
| Jan-27-06 | | Robin01: Forget that, I'll drink my own. |
| Jan-27-06 | | Robin01: I think white will move the bishop. Either 21.Bd2, 21.Bd4, 21.Bf2, 21.Bc1 or 21.Bb6. By moving the bishop white clears the file for his rook. |
Jan-28-06
 | | WannaBe: <Robin01> I will take a look at those lines. |
| Jan-28-06 | | RonB52734: <Robin01> called it again. Bc1. |
Jan-28-06
 | | WannaBe: Bc1 allows extra attacker, white now have f4 pawn, f3 knight, e1 rook attacking our e5 pawn. We have d6 pawn, c6 knight and e6 queen defending.
We can play 21...Bf6, so if 22. f5 Qe7 it might prevent 23. Nd5, but white can offer the exchange. 21...Bf6 22. f5 Qe7 23. Nd5 Bxd5 Qxd5. I will look at it some more after the Topalov-Anand game. |
