 | | WannaBe: Oh that's nothing, remember when I said we can't play Bg6 or something like that? My brain was in the deep deep freezer... You can always add whiskey and/or bailey to coffee. =) |
| Jan-30-06 | | RonB52734: Ok, while you guys are off making martinis (which would look like this: ~~~Y~~~), I'm voting for NxN, which would look like this: click for larger view |
Jan-30-06
 | | WannaBe: Ah, what the hay... NxN is the one for me too. |
| Jan-30-06 | | Robin01: Yes, Nxe5 is my vote also. I am going to finish my drink and then fall into my bed. |
| Jan-30-06 | | RonB52734: Actually, 23...Nxe5 24.Qg3, it looks like 24...Bf6 is the move, not 24...Bd6, because of the threat of 25.Qxg7. Pour me one of those, barkeep! |
| Jan-31-06 | | sitzkrieg: Nxe5 kinda amazed me, but now I am convinced the idea behind it is, indeed, Qe4, with double attack. (If we had played our rook to c8 this wouldnt have worked!) This was quite a brilliant find of them, and i fear we are now a little bit worse then before. Still it is easy to keep material equality in several lines.
After Qe4 i have analysed Rc8, Rd8 and Bc5 chess and all seem playable, with most times equality. But first we need to play Nxe5 of course, and that is my vote. |
| Jan-31-06 | | sitzkrieg: Damnit, I also missed Ron,s Qg3 wich is good too. Lets first see what they play, Nxe5 is sort of forced anyway. |
| Jan-31-06 | | Robin01: I believe we have to post early this morning. |
| Jan-31-06 | | sitzkrieg: Hmm We have 4 out of 5 votes, so we can post if we need to. |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: We don't have to post until 9 tonight. I woke up at 6:30 this morning thinking "Do we have to move this morning?" And I double-checked it. |
| Jan-31-06 | | sitzkrieg: Hehe. I have no clue what time it is at your home, but i ll leave it to you boss:) |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: I'll post our move later this afternoon. Clearly, white knows what its next move is and they will post it quickly after we do. I don't want to be in a position where we have to move again by sometime tomorrow morning. |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: Oops, another brain cramp.
23...Nxe5 24.Qg3 Bf6 (or Bd6) 25.Bf4 is trouble. I don't know yet what to do here. |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: Maybe 23...Nxe5 24.Qg3 Bc5+ 25.Kh1 Bd4 and 26...g5 |
| Jan-31-06 | | Robin01: <I don't want to be in a position where we have to move again by sometime tomorrow morning> Good idea. Post later this afternoon. I'm not going to get to analyze this anymore until this evening. |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: One last idea for a bit.
23...Nxe5 24.Qg3 Bc5+ 25.Kh1 Bd4 26 Nd1 (dangerous because it prepares 27.Bb2) 26...Qg6 |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: Any final thoughts, team? I'd like to post the move at about 4:30, and then I'm off to play what will seem, by comparison, to be a lightning game of chess, at game/2 hours! |
Jan-31-06
 | | WannaBe: Oh sure, I think there something 'trappy' about this, but NxN is what I'll go for. =) |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: Another thought:
23...Nxe5 24.Qg3 and now if 24...Bc5+ I think white's response could be 25.Be3. Here, I think 25...Qf6, but I'm not at a board and haven't got much time to look at it.Anyway, some challenges after 24.Qg3, but I do think it's possible to hold the position. |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: I meant 25...Qg5, not 25...Qf6 |
Jan-31-06
 | | WannaBe: Worst case scenario, we let them get the N back, (and the pawn that they took earlier.) And regroup/reforumate a plan. |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: Ok, let me rewrite that
23...Nxe5 24.Qg3 and now if 24...Bc5+ I think white's response could be 25.Be3. Then 25...Be7 and probably something like 26.Bf4. It's at this point that we might play 26...Qg6 or be cute and play 26...Bc5+ again. |
| Jan-31-06 | | Robin01: <RonB52734> Good luck in your G/120! |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: <Robin01> Thanks, but we had 3 players call in sick, so as a "house" player, I was able to sit out this round. Fine with me: with the work I did this weekend and the end-of-month paperwork that surrounds me, I needed some rest. |
| Jan-31-06 | | RonB52734: And now, before the talking shrub invades my living room, for some more analysis of 24.Qg3 Bc5+ If 25. Be3, then 25...Qd6. Now, if 26.Bxc5, then 26...Qxc5 with a double attack. In this position, white's light-squared bishop is pinned so it can't get into the attack on e5. If 26.Rd1, then 26...Qc7, still protecting the B and N. So I don't think we'll see 25.Be3. |
