| Jul-16-10 | | zanshin: <WannaBe: <zanshin> There is nothing wrong with working your way up the ladder, even if it's starting out as a water boy!> <Wannabe> Working your way up is great and as I said, I am rooting for the guy. But I wonder if his experience is relevant. He's one of the youngest head coaches in the NBA and has no playing experience in the league. I think most NBA players show more respect for coaches who actually played the game. But we Laker fans shouldn't argue. Let's pick on <chancho> who is the Celtics fan ;-) |

 | | chancho: <Zanshin> NBA Finals history: Celtics 9 Lakers 3
:-)) |
| Jul-16-10 | | zanshin: Ok <chancho> ok - Celtics used to be good ;-) |

 | | chancho: <zanshin> There's always next season, and if not then, then later on down the road. Bostonians had to wait from 1918 until 2004 for the Red Sox to win a World Series. The Lakers will have their drought eventually. That's how it goes in sports. |
| Jul-16-10 | | Jim Bartle: The Lakers are a very good team, but not a great team which can keep winning titles year after year. They are going to need some good young players pretty soon, as Fisher and (especially) Artest are not going to drop off some. And Bynum is going to have to improve and become more consistent. Same with the Celts. Good as they are, the Big Three are all on the way down, and Rondo is the only real good young player I see. Big-time contender (for #1 draft pick) the Warriors were just sold. Everyone thought Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison was buying the team, but it turned out to be Peter Guber, a Hollywood wheeler-dealer with a dubious reputation. Doesn't look good, but Guber's got such a big ego he might be ready to spend. |
| Jul-16-10 | | zanshin: I know <chancho> and in my old age, I don't take it so seriously anymore. When I was younger, I took it hard when my team lost. Now, I know there are more important things in life and as you said, these things tend to be cyclic. If I might be semi-serious for a moment, my point about the Celtics was that sports dynasties are harder to establish now than before. Maybe baseball is an exception - I don't follow it. I'm glad the Red Sox won though. Some of my good friends are lifelong fans. |
| Jul-16-10 | | zanshin: <Jim> I think the only NBA Team that might win titles year after year is the Heat if they find they can play together. Their Big Three are all young and everyone seems eager to get on the bandwagon. |
Jul-16-10
 | | chancho: <zanshin> I feel the same way about it.
I'll talk some B-ball if it comes up. During these playoffs
I think I watched a little of game 5 and not much else.(I did read some of the Boston Globe articles) My 18 year old son was the one going ballistic watching the games. There was a time when I used to follow NBA Basketball from exhibition to the playoffs, but I don't have that same enthusiasm for it.
Of course bantering a little with you guys is fun, even if I'm on the receiving end of it. :-) |
| Jul-16-10 | | NakoSonorense: If Kobe's finger gets better; if Andrew manages to stay healthy; if Pau keeps up the same level of play; if Ron plays more games like he did in game #7; If Lamar keeps doing what he usually does; If Sasha and Shannon get more playing time - - - The Lakers are going to win titles year after year. |
Jul-16-10
 | | chancho: <Nako> You wish! :-) |
| Jul-16-10 | | Jim Bartle: If. If. If.
I don't see either Vujacic or Brown as really first-line players. Artest will not be good for much longer, though I wouldn't want to bet against Fisher continuing to play well. Odom is inconsistent and also over 30. Kobe and Gasol are outstanding, no question. But everything fell in place for them this year, and it won't every year. |
| Jul-16-10 | | NakoSonorense: Lots of ifs, I know. But I do think that the Lakers have enough combustible in the tank for at least 2 or 3 more years. |
Jul-16-10
 | | chancho: As has already been mentioned, Chicago has gotten better. Miami also, I don't believe LA will win it all next year. But who knows? |
| Jul-16-10 | | NakoSonorense: <chancho> As long as the Celtics don't win, it's all good! |

 | | chancho: <Nako> Banner number 18 will arrive some day. :-) |
| Jul-17-10 | | NakoSonorense: <chancho> You wish! :-) |
Jul-17-10
 | | chancho: <Nako> Sometimes wishes do come true.
Hopefully not your wishes for the Lakers. :-) |

 | | WannaBe: I, am a die hard Lakers fan, I am not a Kobe fan, nor do I like the style of play that is currently exhibited by the Lakers. I also enjoy (a lot) of college hoops (March Madness! Bring it on!! I was rooting so hard for Butler!), but this one-year and done rule have absolutely ruined it. Now, I am not saying, that you can't play varsity in your freshmen year, but this rule, have destroyed college basketball... This, is coming from someone, who enjoys all sports, and is a self-proclaimed sports <NUT>, and I am getting 'just' a little disenfranchised with some 'aspects' of pro sports. |
| Jul-17-10 | | zanshin: <chancho> You watched game 5 - that was a good one for the Celtics. I admit I watch only the last few minutes of games where the Lakers are winning - and the highlights. Don't get discouraged. There are lots of Celtics fans here. Next time they win, we will all hear from them ;-) |
| Jul-17-10 | | zanshin: <NakoSonorense: But I do think that the Lakers have enough combustible in the tank for at least 2 or 3 more years.> <Nako> I think they will be contenders at least as long as Gasol and Kobe are around. But they might not win it all without making another big move. Mitch Kupchak is certainly capable of making more such moves - and LA is always an attractive, glamor franchise, unlike, say Saramento which is mostly ignored by the media. I wonder though why NY can't seem to get anything going recently. |

I also enjoy (a lot) of college hoops (March Madness! Bring it on!! I was rooting so hard for Butler!),> Sorry for spamming your forum <WannaBe>, but I had to make a last comment. It seems we have a lot in common. I guess you were more a fan of Magic's Showtime style. I liked this (as opposed to the Slowtime during the Perkins years). Since I went to Purdue, I rooted for Butler (and against Duke). Oh well .. can't win 'em all. And I can't complain with the Lakers and Saints both winning (Drew Brees went to Purdue). Time for me to change my forum title back to 'Go Purdue!' and hope Robbie Hummel's knee holds up. |
| Jul-17-10 | | Jim Bartle: Mitch Kupchak needs to get a player like Mitch Kupchak for the Lakers, a tough inside defender and rebounder. Bynum is not that guy, and teams that win over a long period have a player like that. What the Lakers have going for them above all is Kobe Bryant. While I don't really like the guy, here's a player with great talent from a young age, who has not been satisfied with that talent and has worked hard every year to get better, and drives his teammates to produce as well. A lot of players with similar talent (Carter, McGrady, even Marbury) have coasted along without making the effort to get better. |

You get a some contract lawyers, and pay them to 'escape' your contract (CBA) agreements, that is also designed/written by lawyers, and this is/will what you get!! p.s. Apologies to our own CG.com's highly honoured and esteemed barrister members. One of which was my team member, and another one which I met in Vegas, and what happened, will stay in Vegas. |
