WannaBe: Meeting delayed 1/2 hour. If we play Qb6+ they can respond with Be3, and we can't follow with Bc5, because we'd lose the knight and put our king in check by Rxe5+

24...Qb6+ 25. Be3 Bc5?? 26. Rxe5+

Qg3 threatens the N and pawn on g7. We can possibly play Bf6 protecting both N and pawn. Will look at it more when I get another chance.

Feb-01-06  RonB52734: <sitzkrieg> <24...Kd7 25.Rxe5 Bd6 is no good. Rd1.> Quite right. Good catch.

<WannaBe> <If we play Qb6+ they can respond with Be3, and we can't follow with Bc5> I think <sitzkrieg> was quite right here that we follow, not with Bc5, but with Qb8.

<WannaBe> <We can possibly play Bf6 protecting both N and pawn.> 24...Bf6 25.Bf4 and we're still in trouble.

<all> We don't have to move until tomorrow morning. Plenty of time to look at other lines.

Feb-01-06  Robin01: I would like time to look at this position and analyze it. I will not be able to do so until this evening. We have until tomorrow morning to post, so there is no hurry.
Feb-01-06  Robin01: I do not think they can take the pawn on g7 right now because we might be able to bring the rook to g8 and that puts a lot of pressure on the g file.
Feb-01-06  RonB52734: <Robin01> <I do not think they can take the pawn on g7 right now> I agree, and for the further reason that they are down a whole bishop right now. If they'd rather have a pawn or two, instead of a knight, as compensation, I think we can work out a deal.
Feb-01-06  sitzkrieg: I am off; I vote for Qb6
Feb-01-06  Robin01: I like 24...Qb6+ also. If they play 25.Be3 then we play 25...Qb8. If then 26.Bf4, we play again 26...Qb6+
Feb-01-06  RonB52734: I, too, vote for 24...Qb6+. I think they will probably play the little dance of 25.Be3 Qb8 26.Bf4 Qb6+, because now they have one extra move in hand (they've deployed their Bishop against the Knight) while our position is identical to what our position was after move 24.

At this point I don't know what they'll do. If they don't want to keep dancing to e3 until it's a draw, what else do they have?

We have not heard from <Nako Sonorense> in something like 3 days and 3 moves. I'm going to wait for morning to post the move, but...

Feb-01-06  Robin01: <If they don't want to keep dancing to e3 until it's a draw, what else do they have?> Nothing, I do not believe. If they do anything else we get an advantage it looks like. Unless, of course, we missed something. I've looked at it for a while now, though, and it looks okay to me. So I vote for 24...Qb6+
Feb-01-06  Robin01: As bad as our king is stuck in the middle, I would be happy with a draw here.

WannaBe: Okay, I'm online, (also fixing a friend's laptop.) I will go with Qb6+.

WannaBe: I know that <NakoSonorense> is a student at UCLA. GO BRUINS!! So he may be quite busy with studies.

Or else he's over on Hilgard Ave. flirting with the sororities!

(Hilgard Ave is where all the sororities are, the fraternities are on the other side. Gayle Ave.) I should know, I went there. Ah, those were the days....

Feb-01-06  Robin01: Well, flirting with the sororities I can see as a reason to miss chess, but I'm not sure about that studying stuff! :')
Feb-01-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> I'm comin' out there. You and me, we're gonna go find <Nako>!

Hold on, Nako! The Quest for the Grail must go on!

Feb-01-06  Robin01: Well, I just opened me a Heineken. So now I'm ready to look at some more chess.
Feb-01-06  Robin01: <I'm comin' out there. You and me, we're gonna go find <Nako>!> I'll bet you're going to search all the sororites first!!
Feb-01-06  RonB52734: <Robin01> I just got home from seeing "Capote" (which was very good, but I enjoyed "Cinderella Man" more) and I have a Stoli and Tonic on one side of the computer and a chessboard on the other.

A draw with the black pieces against strong opposition is no dishonor. Let's see.......

Feb-01-06  RonB52734: <Robin> Every last one of 'em!

WannaBe: I too, have no issues w/ draw at this stage.
Feb-01-06  RonB52734: The scene: a large, stone sorority house. Lots of co-eds in flowing white gowns. They're leading <Nako> by the arm up a spiraling staircase ...

<RonB>: Nako! Thank God!

<WannaBe>: We've come to rescue you!

<Nako>: Rescue me? I don't WANT to be rescued!

Feb-01-06  Robin01: "Stairway to Heaven"!
Feb-01-06  sitzkrieg: What about Bd4 instead of Bf4. I am not really able to analyze it right now, but it might be their plan to win.

WannaBe: <sitzkrieg> Bd4/Bf4 you mean that is to respond to Qb6+ yes?
Feb-01-06  sitzkrieg: Come'on. Chess or some gorgeous girls. What would u choose. Easy choiche i think. Since Nako is not here, he must be dead. RIP poor Nako.
Feb-01-06  sitzkrieg: After Be3 and Qb8 then Bd4 maybe?
