  WannaBe: Okie Dokie, 1. e4 c5 2. Nf3

Suggestions? We go into a Scheveningen/Najdorf? Kan? Taimanov?

Jan-11-06  sitzkrieg: Hmm. I don't care too much, but things as the Najdorf and the Shesnikov are imo risky, for there is a larger chanche we getsquashed by lack of theory.

Scheveninger, Taimanov, Boleslavsky e.g. fine with me. What u prefer?

Jan-11-06  Robin01: I vote for 2...d6 here. Of course, 2...Nc6 is good also for my second choice.
Jan-11-06  Robin01: There are also other moves that are playable. Those are just the moves I normally play.
Jan-11-06  sitzkrieg: Ok. If wannabe gives his opinion we might have a majority again:)
Jan-11-06  sitzkrieg: Anyone else?
Jan-11-06  Robin01: Other moves here could be e6, a6, or even Nf6 or g6. I'm not much of a Dragon player, but one of you might be.
Jan-11-06  sitzkrieg: well dragon is tricky also u have to know the lines. I dont so I prefer not to play it or accelerated . But Nc6 or d6 is fine with me still enough choiches ahead.
Jan-11-06  NakoSonorense: i vote for 2...d6. najdorf is one of my favorite openings

WannaBe: well, there currently is no majority, because <sitzkrieg> said he didn't care. =)

So that doesn't count as a vote, and even if <Robin01> and I agree on d6 the other 2 team members can still tie, then we'll have a discussion.

I will await for <RonB52734>, <NakoSonorense> and their opinion/response. Plus the other team has already retired for the day. Even if we post our move, we have to wait until tomorrow for theirs.

Well, it looks like its going to be a najdorf.

Jan-11-06  Robin01: My guess is that the white team is going to play 3.d4 no matter what we play, but we will see if they come up with something else for their third move.
Jan-11-06  Robin01: They might try some sort of closed variation of the sicilian or maybe 3.Bb5+. I believe Bb5+ is called the Moscow variation or something like that.

WannaBe: <Robin01> good points, last time someone played 3.Bb5+ I responded with ...Bd7
Jan-11-06  Robin01: I believe I also responded with ...Bd7 the last time. I have used Nc6 before also. I have never tried Nd7.

WannaBe: <Robin01> Actually Nd7 works pretty good. usually in the line I play/face,

3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6 6. Bg5 e6

eventually my knight goes to Nbd7, Be7 possibly with b5. So, if Bb5+ Nd7 isn't bad.

Jan-11-06  RonB52734: I'm for 2...d6

Sorry again to be so long in responding. Tonight was the monthly chess club board meeting. 2 hours of finances and tournament schedules. Ah to be back at the board again.

WannaBe: <NakoSonorense, Robin01, and RonB52734> all voted for d6, so looks like d6 it is.

Team captain have to post the move. :-)

Jan-11-06  RonB52734: I shall post it. And drat upon you for nominating me captain in absentia! :)
Jan-11-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> had a good point earlier. It would be useful if we could pick a time when everybody should check in. He proposed <It would be around noon-ish in Calif, and 3 PM in East Coast U.S. and 10PM(?) in Holland?> which is fine with me.
Jan-11-06  Robin01: <WannaBe> Looking at your Nd7 line, what if white recaptures with 4.Qxd4. What line would you follow? Looks like white can get away with the queen capture since black's knight is on d7.
Jan-11-06  Robin01: I'm not sure I can check in exactly at that time. I am working then, so I get on and off the computer based upon my workload. But I'm on as often as possible so I do not see a problem.

WannaBe: <Robin01> If that happens, we'll cross that bridge. Come when you can, or leave a post/vote if you have already decided!
Jan-12-06  JoeWms: <WannaBe> in the 70's I flew out to New York to take depositions in a suit about whose "basic BASIC" was entitled to copyright and royalties.

"Basically your BASIC is not the basic BASIC you based your basic application on that formed the base of the BASIC program that was ..." It drove me to drink (more)!

The depositions I took were for just one of a score of cases pending in U. S. District Courts at that time. (A lot of deposition reporters made a helluva lot of money from those BASIC disputes also.)

I believe most of your programming language grew out of ENIAC or UNIVAC, whatever those behemoths were called, but there were quite a few terms and expressions in my 1,000+ pages of testimony for which no written form existed. So I created the spellings for a handful of the terms swimming down there in the murky darkness of your programming world.

So that makes me perhaps a second cousin, twice removed, doesn't it?

Jan-12-06  sitzkrieg: Grr...|"<well, there currently is no majority, because <sitzkrieg> said he didn't care. =)>"

When I don't care, I go with the majoirity.

Anyway, they played d4.
My vote goes to <cxd4>.
