To break it down, there are 17 weeks in a season, so they are airing 17 games. (Lately, due to the fact that the last MNF is very close to the holidays, ESPN shows 2 games in week 1) If you divide that dollar amount by the number of games, it works out to be $111,764,705.88 <PER> game. That is just to recoup what ESPN spend on the contract. Not counting paying the 3 booth announcers, 2 sideline reporters, cameramen, people editing the highlights, the cost of moving people/equipment. ESPN will recoup the money in mainly 2 ways, commercials, and pay subscription. Since it is a part of basic cable network, for every subscriber/converter box that uses DISH, DirecTV, Verizon Fios, AT&T, Comcast, or whoever, must pay a certain amount to ESPN for each converter box, (That is why your first box is 'free', any additional room/box costs extra, whether you watch/use that channel/box or not.) But it all happened at the beginning of the game, so it wasn't running up the score. The worst thing I ever saw was a visiting team bus getting caught in traffic and showing up a minute before game time. The home team wouldn't relent on the start time. They won the toss, received, and then ran a hurry up offense the first drive. The defense was cold, out of synch, and gave up a touchdown on that drive. The home team won the game 7-0.
