Feb-02-06  RonB52734: Ok, in Robin's line there are many complications we haven't looked at. For example, 24...Bg6 25.Bf4. Now we want to get our Q out of the way. Maybe 25...Qb6+ and we're into the other line, only we can no longer play ...Ng6 because our B is there. And if they respond to 25...Qb6+ with 26.Be3, now they have threats everywhere. 26...Qb8 27.Bd4 Nc6 28.Qxg6+. I think this is not the way to go.

<sitzkrieg> put it correctly, I think. Qb6+ is logical. We need to get our Q out of the way. Nice to do it with a tempo. With a tempo and a piece in hand.... let's play Qb6+

Feb-02-06  RonB52734: <WannaBe> You're quite right. We have to make up our minds.

  WannaBe: Will go with Qb6+.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: Robin, just read my last post about your line. I think it's too dangerous. 8 minutes now

WannaBe: We better post soon. <EmperorAtahualpa> is probably in a giggling fit over our time trouble.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: I have the following in my cut and paste buffer:

Black plays Qb6+. 7:58 a.m. Details to follow. (Black bangs the clock)

WannaBe: I knew there was a reason why I woke up at 4:30 AM and can't sleep...
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: I'm going now to post it
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: It's done.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: And now to get ready for work.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: Oh, and <sitzkrieg>: My attorney ID number is all over the Internet because of my job. I know from my work that anonymity on the Internet can always be pierced. Using my own identity reminds me to behave. I've been using that rule since, I guess, about 1996.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: 2.5 hours later and dead quiet.
Feb-02-06  sitzkrieg: I am awake. I see we posted Qb6, that is probably ok.

24...Qb6+ 25.Be3 Qb8 26.Bd4 Nc6 27.Qxg7 Nxd4 28.Nd5 Nc6 29.Rxe7+ (but notice here that the reply is 29...Nxe7) and then 30.Nf6+. Here 30...Kd8 is forced. Looks like now 31.Rd1+, --> i believe the rook on f8 is hanging, take it with check and some more pieces go. So we need to look at the follow ups closely, maybe Ng6 ( i believe Rons line is correct) instead of c6, or maybe not take on d4 and prevent Nd5 (e4?)

Feb-02-06  sitzkrieg: They must have seen Qb6 before they made their Knight sac. Lets see what they have in store.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: <sitzkrieg> Yes, I am satisfied that the ...Nc6 line is refuted and ...Ng6 is superior.

I am now really torn between believing they'll draw, and expecting they'll play on being (at least) slightly down in material.

Feb-02-06  sitzkrieg: They will play on, they are cocky if thats the word.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: <they are cocky> That's right
Feb-02-06  sitzkrieg: Ok I am gonna do some work and also try to check the variations after Be3 again. Maybe there is something we dont see.
Feb-02-06  sitzkrieg: Ok i may have got something. After Qb6ch Be3 Qb8 Rf5. The obvious move is Ng6, if we keep the knight at its position we get big trouble. Now the queens are opposed, but they wont exchange with a piece down. So they move the queen; Qf3 sets up a new threat (Qc6ch followed by Rd1 e.g.) Now we got two ways of countering, giving back some of our material with Ra7, at first i thought this was our only chanche, but now i think we will loose. So in my var.we do Qc8 wich also doesnt look too good. Because they play Rc5. We do Bxc5 they do Bxc5 with check. Only move i can see is Be6 and then they white can do Qh5. Rf6 doesnt work, so Kf7 Bxf8 Qxc3 Rxe6 Kxe6 Qg6check and they have a good position.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: What about this?

25.Be3 Qb8 26.Rf5 Ng6 27.Qf3 Be6 28.Qh5 Bxf5 and this position:

Feb-02-06  RonB52734: Or 25.Be3 Qb8 26.Rf5 Ng6 27.Qf3 Be6 28.Qc6+ Bd7 29.Qxg6+ Kd8 with this position: (white to play)

and I see nothing but trades here

Feb-02-06  RonB52734: Or better yet 25.Be3 Qb8 26.Rf5 Ng6 27.Qf3 Qc8
Feb-02-06  sitzkrieg: Ur first diagram looks good f we can defend e7 (nd5, Bd6)enough. Further i think we need to investigate Qc8.
Feb-02-06  RonB52734: Is the simplest answer to 25.Be3 Qb8 26.Rf5 just 26.Qe6?
Feb-02-06  Robin01: I see all is quiet on the chess board.
