FSR: <Penguincw> Chessgames.com stated that it had promised to publicize the contest before the new year, had forgotten to do so, and that it would instead put an announcement up on the homepage.

Jan-05-12  frogbert: why are people nominated for "best written post" without reference to a specific post?

either the category should be rebranded or nominations should be for specific posts, it seems. i guess it's been debated before ...

Jan-05-12  frogbert: <Second reason is that the 'shortlists' would get considerably longer. >

actually the problem of "long shortlists" (what a beautiful oxymoron, easily competes with "easy problem" and "small catastrophe" and the likes, but i digress...) is better solved by limiting the number of categories a specific kibitzer can compete in.

suggestion: accept double nominations from anyone (who bothers), but when time is out give each nominee a chance to choose in which categories to keep the nomination (say, in max one or two) - or make the choice by a simple algorithm in case the person won't or can't respond.

i would gladly assist in producing the necessary algorithm if need be. i could even carry out the job, given the list of preliminary nominees in each category.

this would both make the voting process and the counting job easier i presume. and not least, the contest would <look> better imho.

WannaBe: <frogbert> Sometimes, that one/two specific post(s) are hard to find, someone may remember something that is meaningful, thoughtful, and for that specific time and instance, the best post.

Often, we forget it, filed away in the back of our 'cabinet'. And some members here are not premium, and can't do a search.

Even if they can, they may forget to, or what-nots. I simply let it slide, the Caissar is a celebration of the year gone by, tribulations, and joys that we all shared on CG.com

To 'repost/paraphrase' something I wrote, 'The Caissar is not mine, I am just here on behalf of <Nikolaas>. I am just here counting the votes.'

But, I am going to run 'a tight and right ship' while I am doing it. And going to award the Life Time Achievement as/with the best research done, that I can.

Jan-05-12  Shams: I'm assuming if I go back a few pages that I would find <keypusher> nominated for Best Historian?
