| Jan-05-12 | | frogbert: <I simply let it slide, the Caissar is a celebration of the year gone by, tribulations, and joys that we all shared on CG.com> i can acknowledge your points, wannabe, but my feeling still remains that the category then (without being linked to specific posts) just becomes another popularity contest of the type 'which poster/kibitzer do you like best' - and that theme kind of pops up in several of the other categories too, imho. anyway.
i'm holding off on any nominations as i'm still optimistic about being able to secure 3 different kibitzers exhaustive/complete nominations (i.e. so that each of them are nominated in every single of the 11 categories, ignoring the pun one) only by making a single nomination per category. achieving that for 2 kibbers turned out to be no challenge at all. |
| Jan-05-12 | | Shams: <WannaBe> Uh, isn't that well after the voting ends? Tell you what, consider that my nomination, ok? <Best Historian> -> <keypusher> Domo. |
Jan-05-12
 | | WannaBe: <frogbert> you can nominate as many as you want per category, actually, there is/are also no limit on voting either, it just get divided into fractions. So if you vote for two members in the Best Profile, they get 1/2 vote each. <Shams> Seriously, <Keypusher> have not been nominated in any category this year. I will chalk it up in the historian category. (When I get that new bottle of Scotch! =) |

| Jan-06-12 | | Once: <frogbert> I know what you are saying. In previous years, it has seemed like some of the categories have become a "vote for your friends" exercise. And this does rather devalue the process. Instead of being a true recognition of the good stuff it becomes a competition to see who can lobby for enough support. Even if you did win an award you always wondered if it was on merit or because you got the crowd out. BUT ...
This year does genuinely seem to be different. And to be fair, not every category in the past was the subject of intense lobbying. Several categories, yes, but every category? No. And anyway it can only get better if we play along. So whatever your feelings about previous years (and I do know why you feel the way you do), can we please start afresh with this year? New start, and all that? |

| Jan-06-12 | | harrylime: Is there some kinda built in handicap system in these polls because posters like me are at a distinct disadvantage when half the electorate have you placed on 'ignore'? lol |
Jan-06-12
 | | WannaBe: <harrylime> Mmmm... good question. Not sure. |
| Jan-06-12 | | Once: <harrylime> That depends on whether you think the folk who have you on ignore might otherwise be voting for you ... |
| Jan-06-12 | | harrylime: <Once: <harrylime> That depends on whether you think the folk who have you on ignore might otherwise be voting for you ...> How can they judge objectively and across the board when they have their head in the sand tho ?! They may be missing out? Either way, it's a 'blind' vote.. An impulsive 'ignore' impacts upon the legitimacy of any democratic poll |
| Jan-06-12 | | TheFocus: Well, do you think anyone would nominate you if they had you on IGNORE? Maybe <AJ> will nominate me for something to get on my good side! (He says wickedly). |
| Jan-06-12 | | harrylime: Ofcourse not.. but you're missing my point.
The 'ignore' option takes the democratic vehicle down a blind alley.. Which I'm ok with .. if folk wanna bury their heads ect .. But this should be reflected in polls .. otherwise they are undemocratic |
| Jan-06-12 | | Once: It's their choice whether to put you on ignore or not. That's democracy. |
| Jan-06-12 | | Nina Myers: Harry darling, people that have you on ignore won't vote for you anyway. And this for good reason. Take your time and have think about it. |
| Jan-06-12 | | TheFocus: If they have you on Ignore, they won't see who you have nominated. But that shouldn't matter. |
| Jan-06-12 | | harrylime: Sure. It maybe for a 'good reason' ect.. but over what period of time does 'the ignore' button become undemocratic ?? Anyway will leave it there.. don't wanna distract and you're all cool .. Even Nina above |
| Jan-06-12 | | TheFocus: I would just point out what <Once> just posted and leave it at that. |
| Jan-06-12 | | harrylime: I have done.. <The Focus> |
