Post: sfm, based on this Sept. 21 post to V Mikenas vs Bronstein, 1965: <There are times where we all make a move like -,Rxa3. Rating 1300 or 2300 - does not matter. It's the killing move that our opponent didn't see coming. The game is over. The moment of victory has come.Finding that move is always great. But nothing beats the drama and excitement of having found that move one move earlier, and see if your opponent will spot the danger. 23.-,Qe5. He is thinking. I can see, feel, that he looks at his back rank. Of course the first thing he sees is the threat of 24.-,Qe1+, winning the h4 rook. And that the b2-pawn is up for grabs as well. I have already seen the few acceptable moves he has. But will he? I try to look like this moment is just about the most boring and average in my life. I may even move a hand to my mouth, faking a suppressed yawn. A professional poker player would spot it all right away. Then I look up, like if I felt like relaxing a bit and look at the other players in the tournament hall. But I see absolutely nothing. If if a witch would have turned all the other players into being nude chessplaying women, I just wouldn't react on it. My mind is 100.00% on the game. An eternity passes by before he starts moving his right hand towards the board. This is truly the moment of life and death. If somebody would show him a print-out of my pulse and blood pressure he'd take his hand back as if somebody had struck it with a stick, saying "What the hell is going on here???". When his hand grabs the h4-root, a pessimistic reaction sets in. "He will put it on d4. Relax. Of course he will put it on d4." It's the minds defense against overheating even more. This last for about 0.2 seconds, then I see him move the hand further. He dropped the rook at b4!! My mind screams in triumph, shutting down all analytic brain activity for about another two seconds. Then doubt strikes for a split second. Could I really have been wrong? Has happened so many times before. I look again and again on the few variations, testing any absurd reply. Even the most obvious move can take several minutes. I briefly look at him. He still does not have a clue. Then I play the move, my hand singing with joy. Now I can freely look at him. For about two seconds he looks surprised, then he frowns. Then the heavy sigh and a light shaking of the head. Then his attempt to find an escape, something that we both know is just not there. I feel like laughing, but I am not allowed to. Au contraire, I put on a solemn face, not to kick a the man when he is lying down (something I don't like). After 25 seconds he stops the clock, then we shake hands. A brief analysis follows. Usually he thinks he had a slightly superior position at some point. Some psychological defense, I suppose. Maybe his is right, how would I know? Then I fly out of the tournament hall, on the strongest drug I could ever imagine. I am the king of the world, I love everybody and everything.> |

| Jan-09-12 | | frogbert: it would be great if more ppl did like fsr, quote and/or link the <post> you're voting for. in practice this makes sfm's post the only candidate for me, as the others are posters/kibitzers, not posts. |

| Jan-09-12 | | rogge: Post: <Colonel Mortimer> <rogge: The author is nominated for this (best post): <<Colonel Mortimer>: ...but the purpose of my posts is to turn the fallacy and inherent illogicality of their arguments against them. Their views may not change, but at least their hypocrisy is laid bare for all to see.If God's word was so clear cut and morally consistent as taken from the Bible - there wouldn't be so many Christian denominations. The fact that there is so much disagreement of emphasis on a wide range of doctrinal issues clearly and logically suggests the word of God is but an interpretation by mere mortals. When a Christian invokes God's morality, he is merely interpreting God's morality to suit his own personal belief system. So when these religious fanatics politically grandstand on issues of 'moral import' such as homosexuality and abortion, by invoking God they are merely and disingenuously attempting to bang their political drum louder than others on issues that are not central to society, but central to their 'faith'. The moral equivalence of this is a corporation campaigning for legislation that is favourable to their bottom line, via the battle cry of deregulation being good for the marketplace. It won't be long before the religious right are completely discredited and consigned to the historical dustbin of religious intolerance. In that respect it is ironic that the United States of America is way behind Europe.> > |

<frogbert> my friend, have you ever heard the word "timing"? I will try this:
It is voting time! |
|
| Jan-09-12 | | frogbert: and those who provide an actual post they're voting for have a bigger chance to get additional "support" from those who haven't seen (all) the brilliancies of the various nominees. <It is voting time!> "i'm voting for X due to this post" <is> voting. i fail to see any problem. |
