There are so many illegal activities that happen in motels, that the last thing I'll worry about is your wirless USB adaptor picking up an open network. :)

WannaBe: <notsodeepthought: ... do they play mechanically?> I'm gonna try and go and find out, (get my a$$ kicked, no doubt...) http://www.chessclub.org/

And it looks like Alex Yermolinsky is the house master there... =)

He's a cool guy, met him at the tournament late last year.

Apr-27-06  notsodeepthought: <He's a cool guy, met him at the tournament late last year.> OK, but don't let the fact that he's cool stop you from kicking his ass. You can do it, <WannaBe>! Or maybe you can't, but give it a shot while you're there.

Apr-27-06  midknightblue: That would be cool to visit the mechanics chess club. maybe you can sit in on a yermo lecture. I believe he lectures there every week. Let us know about the club if you get a change to visit. --MKB--
*Look out Vegas. I am getting ready*
Apr-27-06  Chess Classics: You didn't place in the tournament, so you don't get the veg. lasagna recipe, (just kidding, I don't have the time to copy it down right now-you'll get it when everyone else does) but something slightly simpler is soup.

SPICY RED PEPPER SOUP

INGREDIENTS
*1 or 2 ancho chilies
*3 tablespoon virgin olive oil
*1/2 teaspoon mixed marjoram, thyme, and savory
*2 bay leaves
*2 cloves
*4 cloves garlic, roughly chopped (to 1/2 inch to 1 inch pieces) *1 medium red onion
*1 leek, white part only, sliced
*1 pound pimentos or red bell peppers, seeded and sliced *1 teaspoon salt
*1 pound ripe tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and chopped; juice reserved *6 cups water
*8 ounces savoy or smooth green cabbage, chopped
Fresh herbs: parsley, marjoram, thyme, for garnish

TO MAKE: Remove the stems, seeds, and veins from the chilies. Tear the flesh into a few large pieces. Cover them with water, bring to a boil, and simmer for 20 minutes; then puree them in a blender.

Slowly warm the olive oil in a soup pot with the mixed herbs, bay leaves, and cloves until they are aromatic. Add the garlic and cook about 1/2 minute, without letting it brown; then stir in the onion, leek, peppers, and salt. Stir well to coat the vegetables with the oil, cover the pot, and leave on a flame-tamer over very low heat.

Check the pot after 5 minutes and give a stir. If the vegetqables are sticking at all, add 1/2 cup water, and continue cooking another 5 to 10 minutes. Add the tomatoes, 4 tablespoons of the chili puree, and 6 cups of water. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat to a slow simmer. Add the cabbage, cover with a lid, and cook as slowly as possible for 40 minutes.

Let the soup cool briefly; then puree it for 1 minute or longer so that it is fully blended, or it will sperate in the bowls. Return the soup to the pot and season it with a fresh garnish of chopped parsley, marjoram, or thyme leaves.

Serves 4-6

CC

WannaBe: Where in the receipe is the Pepto-Bismal??? I think I'll need like 3 gallons of it for my tummy. =)
Apr-27-06  RonB52734: WannaBe: I survived April 15 relatively unscathed, and was starting to really work towards going to the National Open, but then I realized it's father's day weekend. So I'm out. But let's find another tournament this summer someplace that it's relatively cheap for each of us to get to.
Apr-27-06  RonB52734: <Where in the receipe is the Pepto-Bismal> I've always wanted to develop an anti-anxiety drug called Damitol. :)

Have I mentioned that brand name of the restroom air fresheners at the Pittsburgh Chess Club is NILodor?

Coincidence?

WannaBe: I wish I can play on FICS, but this piggy-backed connection is so spotty, the best I can do is browse web and check e-mail.

Plan to visit the Mechanics Institute and get soundly beat this weekend. =)

Apr-28-06  brankat: <WannaBe> So I guess Peru will have to wait till next year:) Have a good time, make a lotta bucks(not Chessbucks, but greenbacks) and take care.

<Swapmeet> I'm going down in the fifth game? Or the fifth move?! LOL.

All the patzers across the world will be cheering you on; myself included. With White play <2. Ke2>-- get your opponent off theory early.

Good luck!

Apr-28-06  notsodeepthought: <Chopin: With White play <2. Ke2>-- get your opponent off theory early.> Too conservative - I'd go for <1.> Ke2! and throw them a real curveball.
