<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
  chancho: <shr0pshire> Thanks man. Hope 2009 will be a great year for you as well. I lost my FICS password a while ago, and so have not played there lately. Yeah, another new Guv. Will he bring solutions or more of the same, only time will tell.
Jan-03-09  shr0pshire: <chancho> Then are you playing somewhere else? I have tried chesscube for a while, and some other free places but I don't like any of them as much as FICS. And if you want to reset your password you can just ask an admin.
Question 4.2: I forgot my password what do I do?
If you forgot your password, you need to contact an admin or to email support@freechess.org to ask to send out a new one. It is not possible to retrieve a lost password.
Jan-04-09  benjinathan: Hey chancho just saw your greetings. Happy New Year to you too!
What do you think about organizing a block of nonaligned voters for next game for the opening?
<Umansky Game Strategy and Openings Discussion>
Let the discussion begin...
Jan-07-09  imag: I have analyzed some of Umansky games and I noticed that he:
- likes Pirc/King's Indian formation with Black playing for e5 and f5
- positions bishops on long diagonals targeting enemy King
- is not afraid of highly tactical lines
The first question is: do we play the Pirc, King's Indian or do we avoid both to surprise him?
Jan-07-09  Dmaster995: I live and die by the pirc/KID so i suggest we go with that. The positions are tactical (KID) and sometimes positional (Pirc). We haven't played a hypermodern opening since GM Shulman so I think it will be a good choice.
Jan-07-09  kwid: an-07-09
<imag:>
Yes this needs a careful evaluation.
If KI positions obtainable via Robatsch or Pirc is preferred by him why did he select QI lately when confronted with d4?
This suggests to me that he is not absolutely sure that he can achive a sound position against best play.
Therefor I would play e4 to provoke him playing g6. Since he has not chosen Sicilian according to my research, he may choose e5 instead of g6 for which we have to get prepared for.
If he plays the Robatsch (who I new well and analyst together and played against) we should open with e4/d4/Nc3/Nf3/Be2/h3 etc setup where black has no target. I played g6 for many years myself and preferred to lead into a pure KI via c4/d4/e4 etc when I had white.
Since we will use Rybka we need its opening book for these lines. If some one could post these lines I could study them to see if there are improvements for us.
Jan-07-09  kwid: Jan-07-09 <Dmaster995: I live and die by the pirc/KID >
Do not forget that it will be us who have to refute it, we have white as I understand.
Jan-07-09  imag: <kwid> Take a look: M Plomp vs M Umansky, 2006
Can you find a better line for White? It seems that 12...Nb6 is a draw.
Jan-07-09  NakoSonorense: The Boston Celtics are free-falling from the first place. Three straight losses for them. Now even Cleveland has passed them!
  chancho: Umansky plays the Robatsch and Pirc against 1.e4, but he has also played The Breyer Defense to the Spanish game, as well as the closed Ruy Lopez. He just might opt to play us in that opening.
Jan-08-09  sentriclecub: How early should we deviate from book lines?
GMAN2 has taught me a lesson that we need to transition to the part of the game where we are strongest. We are stronger than Umansky in the middlegame.
Jan-08-09  blue wave: <How early should we deviate from book lines? GMAN2 has taught me a lesson that we need to transition to the part of the game where we are strongest. We are stronger than Umansky in the middlegame.>
We should stick to a solid book line for at least 10 moves each side, and one of them should be castling.
Jan-08-09  kwid: Jan-08-09
<sentriclecub: How early should we deviate from book lines?>
May be it is time to discuss "BOOK LINES" as to its origin and credibility and its best use.
Question # one: Do we have access to lines prepared by the world best theoretician and practitioners?
What "Book" will we as a team adopt for attempting to win against a very experienced long time chess teacher and successful player whose games are part of the theory for the students of this game.
When do we or should we consider to deviate from book moves accepted to be best for a particular position?
Would any of us suggest or simply point out to the likes of say the best three players of the world in a discussion forum what is best for them to play?
The point of all this is that we are at times being overwhelmed from individuals who belief that they know best and could win against anyone who would dare to challenge them.
Such arrogant attitudes could also derail this game if presented with a persuasive argument.
What is our collective wisdom saying about this subject?
