<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
<Maybe we could play a thrilling game with high risks and generate more winning chances than in a conventional Pirc/Robatsch.>
The main idea behind the Robatsch is to play e5 in reply to the three pawns setup with d4/e4/c4 or transpositions. If white plays d5 locking the center black has a5 leading into known KI positions which seem to favour black IMO.
If white allows exd4 open the center white does have a small advantage in space and development. But experience has shown that black hold unless f5 is played too soon.
We have to check Robatsch Two Knights Suttles variations, Pirc Austrian Attack classical Modern Mainline as well as transitions from the Dragon Formations BO9.
I'll check the later right now to see if it is playable for us.
Jan-13-09  sentriclecub: <kwid> Alright, well the surprise addition to the project was summary videos uploaded to youtube.
That was my secret weapon to defeat poor moves during the opening. Make a youtube video for the 3 highest voted moves, including direct comparison of why move_A is better than move_B
All I needed was some strong opening experts to tell what what to include.
The votes would hugely be influenced by a convenient and accurate youtube video summarizing the competing moves.
Maybe the game after next, or if someone wants to do it instead for UMAN, the idea is yours, take it and run with it. You'll become the team's most influential member overnight.
< sentriclecub:> <kwid> <All I needed was some strong opening experts to tell what what to include> ...direct comparison of why move_A is better than move_B.>
You use the word "needed" like you are giving up the idea in despair. This expression makes me feel somewhat guilty for denying the realisation of you desire.
My reason for refusing to cooperate in your venture stems from my observation that it may not be in the best interest for our Team.
It could influence the enthusiasm or even stifle the creativeness for our collective contributions if we diminish the rewards for individual greatness. It would impose a dictatorship and demanding that the team accepts the roll of herd mentality because the truth for selecting our best move and lines is already known.
I have noticed a decline of contributions since we attempted to streamline our collective analysis with forum system to save time by avoiding duplications. It seems to me that in order to improve our playing strength with more efficient ways to collect analysis we instill an inferior complex for many of our less experienced members which discourage them from active participation.
For example; when I joined the team my credentials as an experienced OTB and CC player was known but left to question the value of my contributions for the team. This encouraged everyone to add to our collective thought what is best for all of us and at times prove me wrong and exceed my established rating.
The question of how much of a leadership is necessary for providing a guidance to properly function at this top level is very difficult to answer. It seems that an acceptable leadership must encourage motivation and elevates the importance of our individual contributions of ideas which may at times be best or at least influential for our collective decision.
Jan-13-09  kwid: How about a transposition into E92 KI with Nd7? I may have an improvement for this line. The game below may serve as a stem game where we may encounter b6 instead of Ng4 with good winning chances also.
Jan-14-09  sentriclecub: <kwid: My reason for refusing to cooperate in your venture stems from my observation that it may not be in the best interest for our Team.>
It may or may not hurt the team. That is not as philanthropic as wanting to provide great chess theory to people all over the world, for free.
People only publish chess theory when their is profit involved or it adds to their recognition, or benefits their team or their company.
What I wanted to do was provide the information into the wikibook, and then create a youtube video for this team, pulling all the information out of the wikibook at the appropriate place. (i.e. stuff no longer relevant to the team will be retained in the wikibook, but not included into the youtube video).
I gave up because I am terrible at chess and I can't write a better wikibook on opening theory than a complete chess noob with access to a few books.
The team has not listened to you during your warnings of our unsound opening practices. I actually looked up the definition of senior international master and I read your posts with humility. You have a lot to give, and I'm willing to format all the data and hard work, you can just post the pgn into my forum, and I'll take care of the hours of formatting work.
The youtube video was my way to repay you, since it would influence votes toward your recommended moves (and most importantly away from bad moves).
Voters following your recommendations would love the understanding and chess education, as each week they get a new chess video covering a new line, and they get commentary from someone as knowledgeable as yourself, and uploaded to a convenient web video.
Announcing the youtube videos has now given opponents two weeks to plan and thwart their effectiveness. I did not wish to announce the youtube videos idea, I just wanted to do it as a surprise, which is now no longer possible.
Its not that important, I'll try next game after UMAN. Its a shame that all our discussions of openings in this forum benefit no one outside our team. The OE is plenty sufficient for me, but I wish people all over the world had free access to the sum total of human chess knowledge.
Jan-14-09  crazymate: A) Pawn structure:
Should we play d4, e4, f4,c4..
f4 and c4 have their own specific goals.. of taking the game in a certain direction. but don't develop bishops.. e4 > probably wind up in a spanish opening with this GM. d4 > catalan,kings indian and modern defense with GM Umansky likely continuations.
c3 is quite flexible.. kind of a uptempo reverse slav defense.
B) e5:
Should we allow Black to play e7-e5
or should we prevent it with e4-e5?
I don't think he will play e5 to our e4.. I don't think we can prevent it.. but if he plays scandanavian yes..
e4 d5 e5.. is probably just as good to close the position as e4 d5 exd5 is to open the position.
If you mean a nimsowitch theory type thing.. like we play
e4 Nc6 d4.. (already white can't play Nc3 without alot of theory.)
C) Position of Bishops:
Should the LSB go to e2, d3, or c4?
Should the DSB go to e3, f4 or g5?
if e4.
(Bb5 or Bc4 depending on how black plays.)
DSB? ( can't determine until we see what's played) Bg5 and Bf4 are always coffeehouse favorites.. but you just have to see what's on the board..
D) Queen side:
Should we prevent Black's b7-b5 with a4
or should we defense Nc3 with a3
or should we allow b5-b4?
(I firmly oppose any non-center pawn moves. (that includes especially a,b,g,h pawns) until the position is castled and we've reached a developed stage where these pawn pushes can be justified. consolidations which weaken other squares can't be considered when your pieces are undeveloped..
E) Castling:
0-0 or 0-0-0? >
O-O is probably safer and easier to reach with e4 played..
if d4 is voted in.. though O-O-O is worth working for.
Jan-14-09  JSYantiss: Where do we access the Umansky game? I'm trying to cast my vote, but I can't find it?
Jan-14-09  JSYantiss: nvm.... /facepalm
I found it on The List website! :)
Jan-15-09  sentriclecub: Don't worry <Jsyantis> whatever you wrote in DPLeo's site, I'll donate my first vote of the UMAN game to whatever you tried to communicate.
For move 2, you have to do it on the UMAN page, and not on youtube or DPLeo's site or on the back of some envelop somewhere.
We would need to check these lines carefully and prepare the team for a difficult opening phase because the engine book lines as well as horizon limit of our cpu's could easily lead us a stray.
We will have to defend against a king attack which is well beyond the current top engines horizons to foresee.
Yes we will have to look into many branch lines if we decide to go with KI. I am glad that you take part in this pre game discussions because of your unorthodox approach to stimulate interests or create controversies.
I like to start by showing a few typical King attacks which we have to get prepared for. Playing b6 in order to delay c5 seems contrary to the spirit of the KI because blacks fate lays with an all out king side attack.
Here are some examples with b6 but we must not give him an invitation to play QI by playing d4 instead of e4 for our first move. I post the main line with d4 to help us get better organized for researching existing game theory. My lines most likely have never been played they are just idea lines in blitz tempo.
Later I will address your most recent comments. However, at this point I wish to resume a prior discussion.
Over a week ago, you suggested creating multiple forums to consider various ECO openings that could be relevant to the Umansky game. I recommended a course of action whereby we could use our existing forum system to accomplish this. You did not pursue this although you were hoping that I would. Neither did you pursue a completely different course of action suggested by another team member.
Today I have been in email contact with <hms123> and <zanshin>. We have discussed this situation at some length. Although all of us are skeptical that we can create a long term plan that the team will actually follow, we do see the value in discussing various openings in the context of the Umansky game. Also, the suspension of the analysis forums in the GMAN2 game potentially frees up certain individuals to host forums devoted to certain ECO openings for the Umansky game.
So here is my updated proposal. I will attempt to recruit a group of team members to host ECO variation specific forums. <hms123> and <zanshin> have agreed to be the first volunteers. However, we want and expect that you will play an active role in this initiative. The first thing we want you to do is to name the first two ECO variations to receive forums. Then we want you to provide help and guidance to <hms123> and <zanshin> as they create these forums.
My suggestion would be for the participants in each forum to analyze games in which Umansky won or drew with black in that particular opening. Then improvements for white could be sought. However, we defer to you in this area.
Your expertise and experience uniquely qualifies you to take a leadership role in this effort. If you choose not to be closely involved, then this effort will not go forward.
As soon as we receive your preference for the first two ECO variations to receive forums and your promise that you will actively participate and provide leadership, then we will establish the first two forums and I will ask <chancho> to provide links to the forums in his forum header. After a few days, I will continue recruiting additional forum hosts to expand the effort.
<kwid>, I look forward to working with you on this good idea that you had.
