<Jer 20:10-13

Jeremiah said:

"I hear the whisperings of many:
'Terror on every side!
Denounce!
Let us denounce him!'
All those who were my friends are on the watch for any misstep of mine.

Perhaps he'll be trapped; then we can prevail, and take our vengeance on him.

But the LORD is with me, like a mighty champion: my persecutors will stumble, they will not triumph.

In their failure, they will be put to utter shame, to lasting, unforgettable confusion.

O LORD of hosts, you who test the just, who probe mind and heart, let me witness the vengeance you take on them, for to you, I have entrusted my cause.

Sing to the LORD,
praise the LORD,
for he has rescued the life of the poor
from the power of the wicked!">

<1 Corinthians 13

13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.

9 For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; 10 but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.>

<The Promise of the Lord's Coming

The Second Letter of Peter

Chapter 3

1 This is now, beloved, the second letter I am writing to you; in them I am trying to arouse your sincere intention by reminding you

2 that you should remember the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets, and the commandment of the Lord and Savior spoken through your apostles.

3 First of all you must understand this, that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and indulging their own lusts

4 and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? For ever since our ancestors died, all things continue as they were from the beginning of creation!?

5 They deliberately ignore this fact, that by the word of God heavens existed long ago and an earth was formed out of water and by means of water,

6 through which the world of that time was deluged with water and perished.

7 But by the same word the present heavens and earth have been reserved for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the godless.

8 But do not ignore this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like one day.

9 The Lord is not slow about his promise, as some think of slowness, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish, but all to come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fire, and the earth and everything that is done on it will be disclosed.

11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, what sort of persons ought you to be in leading lives of holiness and godliness,

12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set ablaze and dissolved, and the elements will melt with fire?

13 But, in accordance with his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness is at home.

Final Exhortation and Doxology

14 Therefore, beloved, while you are waiting for these things, strive to be found by him at peace, without spot or blemish;

15 and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation. So also our beloved brother Paul wrote to you according to the wisdom given him,

16 speaking of this as he does in all his letters. There are some things in them hard to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist to their own destruction, as they do the other scriptures.

17 You therefore beloved, since you are forewarned, beware that you are not carried away with the error of the lawless and lose your own stability.

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity.

Amen.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
<Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.
3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.>
You know I came home from work today boiling hot sticky and exhausted and the first thing I did was click on that wonderful song you left for me.
It refreshed me as much as a shower in the mighty Zambezi Falls.
  jessicafischerqueen: Just got back from the <Fischer> thread and Party's Over ladies and gentlemen.
I officially no longer care what happens on the Fischer thread.
People get exactly what they want in the end, usually.
<Mage of Maple>, <Chancho>, <Ed Labate>-
Thanks you guys-- When you or anyone else tells me they have copied and archived this thread, post the "GO AHEAD" here and I'm deleting all of it.
The time limit is FIVE DAYS.
Exactly FIVE DAYS from now I delete all of this and it's <AA Alekhine Shrine> again.
Thanks to you all-
  jessicafischerqueen: OK I think I've got it straight now:
<FIRST- Annie K's post>:
Jul-17-09
Annie K.: <Jessica> first, I've known <tpstar> for many years now (on this site). Please let me assure you that he is not the kind of person who would ever use sock puppets, for any purpose. But you can check this post out as well: Wesley So - and there are other posts by this person, which are in the same language as is used on the So page as far as I can tell - to confirm his non-identity.
Second, I'm afraid your reading comprehension has failed you there a little, if you really believe <tpstar> was attempting in any way to attribute that quote to the posters on the So page, as this is very easily refuted by noticing that this list of <examples of "cultish" behavior> includes a reference to Kramnik as well:
<Cults are serious business and typically prey on the young ("Pawns are better than Rooks in the endgame") and weak-minded ("Alekhine would only be rated around 2000 nowadays"), by promoting dishonest propaganda ("<Kramnik is the strongest tactical player in the world>"), outright lying ("We just want to be left alone in peace"), wild paranoia ("Internet chess players are cheaters") and conspiracy theories (9/11 was a "spectacular display – I enjoyed watching it on the day").>
While some of the sources of those quotes may be unclear, the inclusion of the Kramnik reference should make it easy enough to discern that not all (if any) of these examples relate directly to the So page.
I do agree somewhat that including these non-relevant quotations may have been an unnecessary digression, but it is only consistent with <tpstar>'s habit of drawing parallels to other cg.com pages, and the motivation you attribute to him for doing so is clearly incorrect.
###################################
<SECOND, my reply to her post>
Jul-17-09
jessicafischerqueen: <Annie> I do see your point- but if <tpstar's> motives were not odious- he is still responsible for anticipating what effect such "incendiary comic" rhetorical devices may have on the audience. No matter what he actually intended.
That is- it's so easy to read his 9-11 quote as a direct attack on the Barangay that he must take responsibility-
For example, if he simply posted what you have just posted to me-
If he posted that on the Barangay, and made it clear in a straight, declarative sentence:
"I in no way meant to suggest that you people support Bobby's opinions on 9-11"-
This would show great good faith on <tpstar's> part.
And I think he is obligated, at this point, to make such a gesture.
As for the <sock> thing I have no info on that and it has nothing to do with the main point I'm trying to make.
When we get "too clever" with our humor and rhetoric-- especially when it deals with incendiary topics-- we risk being misunderstood, and more importantly- we risk seriously offending people.
Thanks for your post here, by the way-
I do understand what you've said.
###############################################
<THIRD My conclusion>-
I don't think <tpstar> meant to be malicious on this matter- but I think he bears some responsibility for disambiguating himself on the <So Page>.
A simple "I do no believer any of you really supports Bobby's opinions on 9-11" would go a long, long, way towards defusing this most unfortunate turn of events.
Ok now I'm shutting up about it.
After all, who cares what I think? I'm a loudmouth.
  jessicafischerqueen: <chancho>
Good grief no-
That could never happen.
I've been intending to answer each and every bit of mail in my forum for days now-
Lots of it is still unanswered including your query- and yes it's been the crazy work schedule at the end of the semester.
The Canadia Health Care system-
Ok it's worse than the American Health Care system provided that the American person in question has a decent health plan.
Viz- this American would enjoy faster and better health service.
Now if you don't have a Health Plan in the US, you are kind of screwed if you get really sick, to say the least.
But in Canada, the "Universal Health Care Act" is now a joke.
Though a federal statute, it is in fact administered Provinically.
So via the questionable use of "user fees" -- fees that actually break the Federal statute-- a person without a good income may face the same fate as an uninsured American-- depending on the Province.
IE- In Alberta the Universal Health Care Act has been gutted in actual practice. Conditions there would be pretty much identical to in the US.
BC has almost totally gutted the Act.
But Quebec has upheld the Act- that is, an impoverished person in Quebec does in fact get full medical coverage, including for long term palliative care, expensive operations, etc.
In Korea there is an affordable Universal Health Care Act that is so amazing that people from all over the Asian world come here as "medical tourists" to get stuff done.
No waiting, low cost, and state of the art modern medical equipment for any who needs it.
Of course the tax burden for this is huge- but in Korea, the "Middle Class" has accepted- so far- this state of affairs.
Jul-19-09  Boomie: <Jess and Chancho: Now if you don't have a Health Plan in the US, you are kind of screwed if you get really sick, to say the least.>
As a non-card carrying poor American, I can say that everyone gets cared for no matter what. If you don't have insurance or whatever, they just use some gummamint program to pay for it.
I've been at death's door a couple of times and had no trouble obtaining a private room in intensive care. The wealthy get better care from private physicians. The rest of us schlubs have to rely on community health services with twice a year check-ups. Clearly some things will fall through the cracks or be detected too late. But there is only one kind of emergency care and everyone gets it.
