Dionysius1: Hi all. I'm having difficulty seeing all the postings on anyone's user profile. For example on Gata Kamsky’s profile it says he’s kibitzed 58 times. But even when I hit the “more” button I can only see one! What should I be doing to see the rest please?

SwitchingQuylthulg: <Dionysius1> Kibitz lists in user profiles list pages, not posts; while Kamsky has kibitzed 58 times, he's only ever posted on one page (the Gata Kamsky page) so that's all you see.

You can easily find the individual posts with Search Kibitzing.

Dionysius1: Thanks <SwitchhingQuylthulg> . I understand now - what I see is the most recent kibitz on any page he's posted on, and if he's only posted on one page that's why I only see one post. Got it! Dion

<<chessgames.com, Jan-29-17: You refer to Chessgames Challenge and that's a good topic. We haven't had one in far too long.>

Has there been any news regarding the Chessgames Challenge?>

Sorry for asking again, but are there any plans for a Chessgames Challenge this year?

SQ explained the situation succinctly. You are only seeing the most recent posts on the pages they posted to. To see every single post by a certain user you can use Search Kibitzing and employ the special syntax "user:_________", which by the way can be combined with other syntax.

This is not the place to pose such questions. If somebody's behavior is abnormal to the degree that they break our posting policies, then blow the whistle and/or send us an email and we'll investigate it. Otherwise you're simply carrying flame wars from other parts of the site here, and I won't have it.

I'm going to delete several inappropriate posts based on the above policy at this time.

chessgames.com: <MuzioFan> <Sorry for asking again, but are there any plans for a Chessgames Challenge this year?> No need to apologize.

The situation, in a nutshell, is that the era of GM-vs-computer exhibitions is pretty much dead. Paying a GM to play 1000 people with computers is a bit like paying a stunt man to fall off a building. Their vast experience makes it so they might just survive, but you can't expect more than that.

That being said we still have lots of room for fun, including chess variants (Chess 960, Lasker Chess, etc.), pre-designated opening exhibitions (see Team White vs Team Black, 2012) and of course the classic team-vs-team matches. We'll let you know when we iron out some details.

You know, I actually forgot that player's have a small-print correction link too, like games.

Still, I've been thinking about the updating/submission/correction process and might share my thoughts on the matter later.

That is the best solution for premium members.

In this case there may be a bon marché version using google, searching for
chessgames DarkNolan
However, it is far from perfect.

The countdown clock was <Golden Executive>'s idea from tournaments past. Look forward to the 'live' broadcasts.

That's interesting looks like a great game is well in progress there. It might have worked if there was a GM and Master team with computers against cg.com with computers. Another idea would be to switch sides in a case like that...theoretical only.

That opening themed thing reminds me of joining a chess club with my father years ago and we played Kriegspiel, simuls were given, and what they called 'proscribed openings' I think those early years, learning chess, even not playing that well, were great for me. There was a fun element that seems to have in part, gone out of chess or the soul of the game...I have spoken, again...('I grow old, I grow old, I should wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled..')

But, it looks interesting. I will analyze the result of the game played with a computer!

Jun-05-17  MuzioFan: Thank you for the response <chessgames.com>. I really enjoyed playing in a team game. As you said the GM vs World game might not be a viable idea, but the other three you mention are amazing!

I have followed both of your recommendations repeatedly for years, and been studiously ignored for my trouble. Meanwhile, the behavior in question has only become worse, and posts in violation of my confidentiality have multiplied while you ignore my requests that you delete them.

As of this moment, there are some 40 <john barleycorn> posts addressing me by my actual first name, information that I have never revealed on this site. There are also two posts containing my full actual name, both of which I pointed out to you months ago.

It is my sense that you are not operating in good faith, but I hope you will prove me wrong.

I will send you one more email, and let's see. But if you ignore me again, don't expect me to just shut up and take it.

OhioChessFan: A quick request for help. If I go to the homepage and try a search with Nakamura and Giri, I get a listing of all those games, essentially unsorted. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

If I go to a random specific game between them, I find a link to "46 more A Giri/Nakamura games", and that page shows the lifetime record. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

The search from the homepage used to show that head to head record. It'd be nice to have that back, especially during major tournaments as the predicition contests go on.

Jun-05-17  zanzibar: <<OCF> <essentially unsorted>>

Sorted by the PGN date.

Jun-05-17  zanzibar: <OCF> I think the search algorithm is based on a more general matching - and so assumes multiple players are mixed in the listing.

E.g. Loewy vs Maroczy

http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

Which Loewy should the header show?

(In this case it looks like <CG> recognizes two gold-stars up against each other. Wonder why Nakamura vs Giri didn't?

Also, I wonder why the Maroczy--Loewy Sr. stats look wrong - "beat 1 to 0 with 1 draw" - shouldn't that be "best 2 to 0 with 1 draw"?)

OhioChessFan: Got it. If you use the dropdown menu to select the two names, you get the head to head results as the algorithm knows those are the two and only two players involved. http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

If you type in the two names, which I did in my previous effort today, the algorithm is going to default to include all players with those two last names. I suppose for consistency's sake, cg.c doesn't want that to toss out a head to head record, even if they are the only two players on the site with those last names.

chessgames.com: <OCF> When you make a search like the one you linked to:

http://www.chessgames.com/perl/ches...

You have typed in the letters "GIRI" and "NAKAMURA" and it looks for games where those strings are in the player names. In this case I'm sure there are no stray games, but if there just happened to be a game in the db between Joe Giri and Satoshi Nakamura, that game would be tossed in the mix. Therefore it would become impossible to show the head-to-head stats.

However, with the other searches you showed, you either used the pulldown menu in the advanced search, or did the equivalent of that by clicking on a link from a game page, so in those cases there is no possible ambiguity.

It's not a bad idea to think that the software should realize that Giri and Nakamura are such enormous names that your search is 99% likely to refer to the modern grandmasters; and the software does work that way, with the E-Z search "Nakamura vs Giri".

chessgames.com: <Also, I wonder why the Maroczy--Loewy Sr. stats look wrong - "beat 1 to 0 with 1 draw" - shouldn't that be "best 2 to 0 with 1 draw"?> That struck me as bizarre as well, but then I looked closely, and saw that one of the four games is actually Loewy Jr. and not Loewy Sr.

I guess the moral here is that ambiguity creeps in even when you're not expecting it.
