Aug-04-17  thegoodanarchist: <we can just shove the two characters together.>

Surely that was the idea behind "The Odd Couple"

Aug-04-17  thegoodanarchist: <Tabanus: Hi chessmoron, we know that, but 99% of the visitors/viewers don't.>

<chessmoron> just gave away the secret! Imma gonna tell everyone!

Aug-04-17  zanzibar: <chessgames> maybe you can migrate that collection onto a <CG> page?

Like the 3-letter country codes.

chessgames.com: Spamming is not posting long and/or offtopic messages. Our rules read:

<Repeating any message, whether or not it is of commercial nature, is spamming by definition. This includes "signatures" (lines of text automatically added to the end of every post) which are strongly discouraged here. Members may present URLs in their messages, including URLs to commercial websites, as long as it is done in the context of the discussion.>

I haven't read the posts to determine in they are inappropriate but since they are not being repeated, they are not spam.

Furthermore do not use this page as an alternative for the Whistle.

Tabanus: <CG> There's no standings table for London Chess Classic Open (2016)
Aug-06-17  Dr Winston OBoogie: Sorry for bringing the spamming issue here yesterday, I'd had a few too many but there's no point in blowing the whistle. My point was this.. Everytime someone posts something in the cafe and a conversation starts up pops <BP> to <purposefully> disrupt the conversation with pages and pages of copy and pasted "poetry". He's got his own forum.

Once again. Sorry.

chessgames.com: <Tabanus> Sometimes we turn off the leaderboard if we do not have all of the games (which makes the leaderboard look ridiculous) and then later we get the missing games. I think that's what happened there—thanks for pointing it out.

Tabanus: <CG> I see. I was about to ask for leaderboard on Tal Memorial (Rapid) (2017) but there are too many missing games. Btw I'm adding link to Chess-Results in the bios (for the events using them), hope that's OK. On Tuesday there'll be a break, I'm leaving Norway for 2 weeks!

chessgames.com: Yes, if you use the &crosstable=1 trick on that one you can see why we suppress the leaderboard. <I'm leaving Norway for 2 weeks!> Safe travels!

chessgames.com: <zanzibar> <maybe you can migrate that collection onto a <CG> page? Like the 3-letter country codes.> Totally unnecessary—you no longer need to know Unicode tricks to make ⩲ or ⩱, you just type +/= or =/+ and it turns into the Unicode characters.

It doesn't just work for kibitzes but for biographies, game collections, etc.

By the way, love your new avatar. Makes me jolly just looking at it.

Aug-08-17  john barleycorn: <ACCOUNT: john barleycorn FUNDS: 0 chessbucks
NET WORTH: 1,346 chessbucks (max bet: 200)>

Cannot place any more bets. After betting 400 chessbucks my count should still have 946 chessbucks ( per Adam Ries).

Aug-08-17  john barleycorn: looks like the 2 bets I placed today are also gone.

chessgames.com: <john barleycorn> I'm investigating the situation and find it confounding. I don't doubt you for a moment, but logfiles show that things that contradict what you're saying, so I'm left rather baffled. Can you provide the links to specific bets that you say vanished from your account? Thanks.

harrylime: Why can't we use emojis/emoticons on this site ??! lol

And why can't we post links to Youtube which bring up the visual link immediately ??!

Like er .... in other sites in 2017 ?

Though I will just add here I love your site and it's still cool !

I am grateful you and this site are here ... and put up with me too.

Just natural questions because technology is moving so fast on the net..and on other sites/forums ect ...

Aug-09-17  john barleycorn: I put 200 on Aronian and 200 on Nakamura in round 6. Both bets were accepted. A third bet for another 200 was rejected due to lacking funds.
Aug-09-17  john barleycorn: According to my profile my net-worth is 1346 and according to the chessbookie page my funds are 0.

< Current net-worth: 1,346 chessbucks> (my profile)

<ACCOUNT: john barleycorn FUNDS: 0 chessbucks NET WORTH: 1,346 chessbucks (max bet: 200)> (chessbookie page)

Aug-09-17  john barleycorn: Just tried to place a bet of 200 for round 8

  chessgames.com: <Why can't we use emojis/emoticons on this site ??! lol> 😕 not sure 😜

<And why can't we post links to Youtube which bring up the visual link immediately ??!>

For the same reason you can't embed graphics directly in posts; everybody starts doing it and instead of resembling a discussion it resembles a circus.

MissScarlett: The Site of games in the Sinquefield Cup is "St Louis, MO USA", not "Saint Louis USA". Same goes for 2016 and 2014 editions, but 2015 seems correct.

  chessgames.com: <a mysterious 'W'> Oops! Thanks

<Ms. S> We're just showing the PGN as they send it to us; but when this one is finished we'll go go through all of them and normalize it to CG standards. Definitely don't try to do it using the editor-box on a thousand games; Sargon can tackle it in 5 minutes with his power-tools.

Aug-10-17  zanzibar: <<Missy> The Site of games in the Sinquefield Cup is "St Louis, MO USA", not "Saint Louis USA". >

Typically strict, even if not always strictly correct.

In this case she's both.
