Sep-07-17  Boomie: <Domdaniel: BTW, the phrase "on the Fritz" is kinda ambiguous...>

I was *on the Fritz* for years and it took a major intervention to get me on the road to recovery.

Sneaky: Daniel, do what you need to do to stay secure and dry during Irma. I just finished getting my storm shutters up. When it blows over, I'll let people know I'm OK on Facebook. I'm sure you'll do the same thing by posting here. God bless and be safe.
Sep-08-17  Dr Winston OBoogie: Hope you're good down there in Florida.
Sep-08-17  Octavia: g l to you all in Florida today

chessgames.com: Thanks Sneaky, O'Boogie, Octavia, and others. I'm pretty well prepared, inasmuch as one can be: Candles, food, water, cash, gasoline, batteries, storm shutters, and adequate protection from looters/criminals.

More importantly there are currently 4 backups of Chessgames: two at the ISP location, one on my personal computer, and one encrypted copy uploaded to a server in Oregon. I'm currently making a 5th backup in the form of DVDs that I'll put in my safety deposit box in just a few minutes.

As soon as I am able I'll let you all know I'm safe by posting here, but if CG goes offline temporarily I may end up posting to Twitter first, at https://twitter.com/chessgamescom.

Our ISP brags that it has diesel generators and walls thicker than bank vaults, but we learned in 2005 (hurricane Wilma) that there are no guarantees in this world when it comes to acts of God. So keep your fingers crossed, we might just get through this with minimal interruption.

Sep-08-17  rogge: Good luck, Florida's the perfect place for lazy holidays. Just not right now...
Sep-08-17  WinKing: Daniel it sounds like you are as prepared as can be for Irma. Our prayers are with you & all those living in Florida.
Sep-08-17  lowlife scum: <chessgames.com: ...and adequate protection from looters/criminals.> Do you know how to use throwing knives by any chance?
Sep-08-17  technical draw: Hurricane Irma hit. Not much happened. No rain. No wind. So in my place Irma turned out to be a dud. I hope all others are safe and also hoping that chessgames.com can survive as well.

Domdaniel: "An act of God under very suspicious circumstances", as a judge once ruled.

Stay safe.

Sep-10-17  lowlife scum: May lots of lowlife scums get screwed over by Irma. E-e-except me, of course.

chessgames.com: Great news -- the eye or hurricane Irma just moved past my home. She became much less organized when it made landfall. No problems here except for the usual flooding and uprooted trees. Best of luck to others in its path as it plods northward.

Oh, and to state the obvious, Chessgames is online like a champ!

Sep-11-17  Travis Bickle: Attn Dan Freeman: I apologize for my horrible temper & caustic outbursts. I hope all is well in Florida.

Tabanus: <CG> Hi champ! :) Would it be a good idea (or easy-to-do) to add the count of games in the standings lists? So that on e. g. the European Blitz Championships (2016), it would say Andreikin [26 games], Mamedov [26 games], Zhigalko [20 games], ... Brodowski [12 games], etc.
Sep-11-17  technical draw: Irma seemed to have left her wrath for the lesser Antilles. Otherwise she was a lot of rattle but little rocks.
