| Dec-10-17 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> here's the info I could find on your Stockfish analysis feature: Analysis Laboratory
But it leaves me wondering a bit about the low-level details (did I miss them?) - e.g. using the SCID UIC configure page here are my settings... <
Hash Memory 16 // MPV 3
Contempt 0 // Threads 1 // Skill Level 20
Move Overhead 30 // Minimum Thinking Time 20
Slow Mover 89 // nodestime 0
Syzygy
Path <empty> // ProbeDepth 1 50MoveRule (true) // ProbeLimit 6
>
I guess, for completeness, it would be nice to know <CG>'s parameter list (even if I don't understand each and every one). |

| | chessgames.com: <z> Fair question. I'll get the answers and put it into <(5) OTHER TIPS AND DETAILS>. Part of it is a little complicated: the MultiPV is set to either 1, 2, or 3 depending on how long you let it run. E.g. a 6 second analysis is only the #1 move, a 1 minute analysis shows the top 2 (I think?), a 15 minute analysis shows the top 3. And then to top if off you can always click on "top move only" which simply a way of setting MultiPV to 1, irrespective of the computation time. We have the full 5-man set tablebase and are looking into acquiring a few key 6-man files, although which 6-man files are the most practical is a question of debate. Many of those tables are pointless, e.g. the table of 5 white pieces vs a black king. One day I hope we get them all just for the sake of completeness. Contempt is set to 0, skill level is set to 20, as that's supposed to the way to maximize Elo. We're working on a "play against the computer feature" which may alter those setting temporarily to make the beast possible to beat; but for the Analysis Laboratory it will always be 0 and 20. |

| | WannaBe: <CG.com> I experienced numerous "Cannot Reach This Page" error during today's live game broadcast. This was experienced on the live game page, and just now 13:20 server time when I tried to access this forum to make this post. (Holiday Present Hunt over-loading the server?) |

Same as <Mann Bee> for me. I figured it might be the Easter Egg Hunt as well. How many of the eggs are left amirite. |

| Dec-11-17 | | thegoodanarchist: For those of us who are obtuse, please explaining why there is a flashing red dot next to the link to this game: Caruana vs Adams, 2017 It's on the home page, under the "Recent Kibitzing" section header, right-hand side of the page |

| | WannaBe: <CG.com> Another tiny item... If/when the laboratory icon gets implemented in the listing of games, home page search have check boxes for Kibit'n and Annotation, maybe a third box for Lab. Analysis?! |
|
Dec-11-17
| | chessgames.com: <flashing red dot> That just means that it's a live game in progress (or recently finished). The live game page has been taken down so it's not blinking any more. |

| Dec-11-17 | | Boomie: <CG.Com>
I've thought of a way you can save a few bucks. Clean up the cesspool on the Rogoff page. Just a handful of posters account for over 90% of the blather. They all have their own forums. Let them spew their off topic crap in their own houses. Not only was Rogoff a strong player, he remains an enthusiastic fan of the game. To allow his page to be trashed like this is a disgrace and one of the major reasons I no longer wish to support CG. |
|
| Dec-11-17 | | thegoodanarchist: <Boomie> Of all the problems in the world I am stunned to see you or anyone get all bent out of shape about people expressing their views about current events |

| | OhioChessFan: I don't care for the Grand Chess Tour crosstable listed on the London Tournament page. It looks sloppy, and really, if someone wanted to find that info, they should be able to find a page dedicated to it. Why would someone expect to find that listed on the London Tournament page? |
|
Dec-12-17
| | OhioChessFan: Hey, great idea <Boomie> There's only 290,000 posts on that page, so you're right to bring it to cg.c's attention in such a timely manner, as they probably never even noticed that before. |

| | jessicafischerqueen:
I agree with Tim (Boomie). |
|
Dec-12-17
| | OhioChessFan: Meh, that ship has sailed. In any case, I'm not sure how moving posts from that page to forums would save money, and Rogoff is aware of the page and has no objections. |

| | Tabanus: <Ohio: Why would someone expect to find that listed on the London Tournament page?> Because LCC was the last leg of GCT, and decided the final standings. Did CG "conceal" the GCT to such an extent that its editors were not aware of it? For lack of fun? Well, now at least you know who won. |
|
Dec-12-17
| | OhioChessFan: <Tab> you're saying that now, a day after London concluded. Fast forward 5 years, and someone wants to have a look. Are they going to know/remember what the last tournament of the GCT 2017 was? But I didn't say what was really on mind, to wit, "Let's have a dedicated page for the GCT each year." That, with links to it on each of the individual member tournaments would fill the bill. Per London and the GCT information in the header, I like how it's done on the Sinquefield Cup page, with a link to the GCT homepage. Alternatively, the final info in the London page header should be retroactively updated onto the header of each member tournament of the Cup. |

Dec-12-17
| | Tabanus: <Ohio> I have no energy left. There are hundreds of events. I only try to give the very minimum of information (when, where, results, etc., where there's little or nothing from before). I added a line under the table about the four other events. And a link to the official GCT site and to London 2016. |

| | chessgames.com: <Why would someone expect to find that listed on the London Tournament page?> Thia is a discussion for the Bistro, not here, but my main criticism with the data is that it’s an awful abuse of the
...
feature. If you don’t view it on a studio monitor you’re out of luck. |
|
Dec-12-17
| | Tabanus: It does say that it was the the last tournament of the GCT 2017. But how this will look in 5 years from now? No idea ;) <Let's have a dedicated page for the GCT each year> I'm not expecting that to happen. There are now three separate pages for only one of the five events, e. g. Grand Chess Tour Paris (Rapid Tiebreak) (2017) and two more. And 10 pages for GCT 2017 in total. |
|
Dec-12-17
| | Tabanus: <CG> Delete it then, and be your own vandal. <awful abuse of the
...
feature.> There's only one "table[" in front and one "]table" at the back. I can easily view the table both in IE and Chrome. Your problem is that you won't have any bios at all, am I right? The many blank bios you have suggests so. Btw I think your bios <is> of general interest. Rather than your Christmas Clues, in my wishful thinking. |

| | SwitchingQuylthulg: I moved the GCT table under the London one, hopefully it's more friendly now. It's still an eyesore, but I think that information should be there in principle. |
|
Dec-12-17
| | chessgames.com: <I moved the GCT table under the London one> Bless you SQ, that's exactly the issue that bothered me. Now that it's viewable on most platforms we can continue the discussion of whether it's needed, and where. |
|
Dec-12-17
| | Tabanus: Fine. I can delete from Giri and down if you think that's handsomer. The last 14 played in only one event. The table will be incomplete then, but may look better. That's what counts, right? And CG, don't be shy about it: if you tell me to stop, I will. |
|
Dec-12-17
| | Tabanus: <viewable on most platforms> I have not considered that, sorry. I don't own a smart phone or whatever myself. How wide can it be? St. Louis Rapid & Blitz (Blitz) (2017) is not viewable either? |
