| Apr-16-18 | | Dr Winston OBoogie: I'm sorry to hear about your mother, <Winking>. I hope you're okay, I'm sure someone else will step up and run the bookies. :) |

 | | chessgames.com: <WinKing> I am very sorry for your loss. Don't worry about the ChessBookie, we'll keep it going in-house until your return. I'll make a post there shortly. |

 | | chessgames.com: <MissScarlett> asks <Why can't the outstanding contents of Olimpbase and Britbase be harvested into <cg.com>?> Or more generally, one may ask "Why can't we just take this giant file of PGN obtained somewhere and import it?" The short answer is, of course, we can. The results are predictable. We'll end up with a few new games that we didn't have before, a ton of duplicates that are ignored, and a few near-duplicates that slip through the system, because they have different moves, a different year, or some other issue. Depending on the site of the PGN source this could be a very quick job or entail a lot of work. (Happily that work can mostly be done by biographers now.) With regards to Olimpbase: Forgive my ignorance, but is there a repository for their PGN? All I see are cute javascript tricks to make windows pop up. |

 | | offramp: To <chessgames.com>. When I am on the page for the chess Challenge, Chessgames Challenge: Team White vs Team Black, 2017, there is a small advert for The Imperial Collector Series. Clicking on that always takes me to The Chessgames Store
which says:
<We're Sorry...
The page you requested was not found, and we have a fine guess why.
If you typed the URL directly, please make sure the spelling is correct.
If you clicked on a link to get here, the link is outdated....> Could someone update the link? |

Apr-17-18
 | | chessgames.com: Thanks offramp, it's hard to keep up with that kind of thing. |

 | | MissScarlett: <With regards to Olimpbase: Forgive my ignorance, but is there a repository for their PGN?> There are PGN zip files for each event. They're available on the RHS of the respective competition pages, e.g. Men's Olympiads. |

| Apr-17-18 | | zanzibar: <Chessgames> RE Olimpbase <With regards to Olimpbase: Forgive my ignorance, but is there a repository for their PGN? All I see are cute javascript tricks to make windows pop up.> You must have missed the left at Albuquerque on your way to Pismo beach: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aSM...
Check out all the PGN downloads here:
http://www.olimpbase.org/index.html... They're all ZIP files, similar to many of <CG>'s downloads. Eg http://www.olimpbase.org/1924x/game... (Paris (1924)) |

 | | chessgames.com: Oh, I see now. That's great.
Maybe a prudent first step would be to take one of the smaller files, import it, and assess the situation. |

 | | HeMateMe: pressing "f" no longer allows one to view a game with black on the lower board. Is there a new way to reverse colors and play black from the bottom? |
|
Apr-18-18
 | | Tabanus: <HeMateMe> Looks like I (Invert) is the new way. |
|
Apr-18-18
 | | HeMateMe: I gave it a try and it works, thank you. |
|
| Apr-18-18 | | zanzibar: <chessgames> before, or maybe commensurate with, the OlimpBase uploading, I believe the higher priority should be given to getting the tournament bulk upload process in place. We really should move to the more efficient procedure of bulk uploading and grapple with the tools and processes needed, once and for all. |

| Apr-18-18 | | zanzibar: Another item on my wish list - a way to embed a <Search Kibitzing> search into an url... E.g. I'd like to leave a link for <MissScarlett> to do a <Searching Kibitzing> on the following: <swiderski suicide> . |

 | | WannaBe: You can always leave a search URL, but if the other member is not premium, it may not work. Also, consider ignore list, both you and the member you want to leave it to. Finally, hack the URL:
Search Kibitzing In the above example, (you may have to hover the mouse and read the link, but not click on it) I am searching for "technical" and page is two.
To search for "technical draw", it would be this (But it is also page 2): Search Kibitzing Notice, when you hover the mouse, it is page 2, because the first page have no "direct" URL. In your case, you need to hack the URL:
Search Kibitzing By copying the original URL and delete the ending ?page=2 Hope this helps. (And please don't report me to NSA or CIA, and goodness sake, Facebook, or Google...) |
|
| Apr-18-18 | | zanzibar: Ah, <WannaBe>, thx for the useful hack. |
|
| Apr-18-18 | | zanzibar: Might be more obvious though, if <CG> updated the url when doing a <Search Kibitzing> like they do for some other searches. |

 | | WannaBe: Why are there SWATs outside my house and people banging on my door?? =)))) |
|
| Apr-18-18 | | zanzibar: Ya got a warrant for this search?! |

 | | Stonehenge: Great, and now the games that are in the queue <please>. And please quit giving MissScarlett a preferential treatment. |
|
| Apr-19-18 | | thegoodanarchist: <chessgames.com: We now have Sharjah ...> Yeah... I remember when I had that...
A doctor can give you an ointment which will clear it right up. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Stonehenge> No problem, one thing though, this game: [Event "URS-ch FL55"]
[Site "Lvov"]
[Date "1987.11.14"]
[Round "7"]
[White "Chernin, Alexander"]
[Black "Dreev, Alexey"]
[Result "1/2-1/2"]
We have it on file as A Chernin vs Romanishin, 1987. Not sure which one is right. |
