 | | Stonehenge: Thanks.
There are a lot of problems with that 1987 tournament, other databases have the same mistakes. The right pgn can be found here (at the bottom): http://al20102007.narod.ru/ch_urs/1... One may assume that Rusbase have got it right, not merely because they are Russian but also because a lot of results don't/didn't make sense. In the Russian pgn they do. |

 | | Stonehenge: Kolpakov-Spassky you can forget, I think I made a mistake there. |
|

 | | chessgames.com: <Stonehenge> OK, but what of the others? Do we have wrong player attributions? If that's the case just submit correction slips — in principle we should always fix problems like that in that fashion. The end result is the same (even better as the URL to the game doesn't change) — and also, we can add editor notes to clear up possible confusion when somebody inevitably claims it's one of the misattributed players. |
|

 | | Stonehenge: Yes, I have been submitting correction slips. If the moves are exactly the same than I don't know why I uploaded those games. In that case you can disregard them. |

 | | chessgames.com: <The right pgn can be found here (at the bottom):> Wow, OK. Sadly there's no way to easily use this beyond looking for differences and then trying to reconcile them one by one. Of course, this is all about the suggested "bulk tournament import" that <z> frequently brings up. Have no fear <zanzibar> ... we really are making a battle plan. We're going to have to take baby steps, because the devil is in the details. Ideally, it would have to be prepared to do radical things to the database with a lot of savvy (merging games, changing players, changing PGN, changing moves, maintaining game collections, etc.) It should alsoknow about some formats (SRR, DRR, Swiss, Knockout) so it can make some assumptions and check for special kinds of inconsistencies (the same player appearing twice in one round, etc.). We can't have all of that overnight, but I can make something useful in an evening. |

| Apr-19-18 | | morfishine: <chessgames.com> Per a suggestion by the legendary <Sally Simpson> would it be possible to add Albin Planinc Albin Planinc to the drop-down menu on the home page? I like that idea |

| Apr-19-18 | | zanzibar: <<chessgames> Of course, this is all about the suggested "bulk tournament import" that <z> frequently brings up. Have no fear <zanzibar> ... we really are making a battle plan. > I hope the original baby steps involve bulk submission of entire tournaments - with immediate promotion into the TI. |

 | | Tabanus: Yeah. Plus with a kick in the ass to the biographers who have strived to get events into TI. And how many players will have games added they did not play? |
|
Apr-20-18
 | | FSR: The cross-table for the Gashimov Memorial is wrong since it does not reflect the result of Topalov-Giri, which was drawn. http://shamkirchess.com/content/5 That game is also missing from the database. |

 | | MissScarlett: <Maybe a prudent first step would be to take one of the smaller files, import it, and assess the situation.> Let's start with one or more of the British championships, rather than the much larger Olympiads. But I agree with <Zanzibore> that we should be looking to do this in conjunction with introducing an automated submission facility of the kind mooted earlier. One issue worth noting is that Britbase includes stubs, so eliminating or, at least, quarantining games less than, say, 10 moves, might be an idea. |
|
| Apr-20-18 | | zanzibar: Stubs are good... and should be the default(?), or at least built in to the foundation. <"<CG> can be the best of all worlds"> - in this case an option would be used to turn off stubs if the user wishes. But we want to get good xtabs, always, as the fundamental backbone of error-checking. That means stubs. * * * * *
Moving on to a topic we all should agree on...
Baby Stepwise Refinement-
Step 1 - Submit a list of games already all on <CG> for promotion to a TI (level-1). The submission could be a list of gid's, or a list of games with gid's tagged. The idea is to automate normalize of games already on <CG> - really a baby step <CG> should have done long, long ago. |
|
Apr-20-18
 | | FSR: <chessgames.com> The cross-table for the Gashimov Memorial is still wrong, but in a different way. Now it shows that Wojtaszek and Mamedyarov each have played three games, while all the other players have played two. This is because the database contains two identical games between them. |
|
Apr-20-18
 | | chessgames.com: Sorry about that, we're OK now. Everybody has a perfect score. |

 | | Richard Taylor: The US Championship coverage is, as last year, brilliant. Have you had any live games on cg.com? It is also interesting to be able to analyse the games sometimes as they are played. Or is it a poss. that cg. go live or is that perhaps not in the ethos of chessgames.com? The Gashimov is alsmost less interesting except I like Navara's interesting play. And the time for the US event is a bit better for me (a selfish reason I know). |
