 | | FSR: It seems that there are some anomalies in Repertoire Explorer and Opening Explorer. If you look at Caruana's games, you'll find that he's only played the Petroff 10 times, resulting in 9 draws, 1 loss, and no wins. Repertoire Explorer: Fabiano Caruana (black) But if you go one ply further in, you find that he's actually played it 16 times, with 10 draws, 2 losses and 4 wins. Repertoire Explorer: Fabiano Caruana (black) Also, S Shankland vs A Liang, 2018 after Liang's 7...e5!? reached a position that more often arises from the London System. But Opening Explorer doesn't show Shankland-Liang (where White played 8.h3). What gives? |

 | | chessgames.com: <Stonehenge> Please don't be sore; we joke around, but ultimately you are correct. <Chessgames Bookie> Thanks (WinKing) ! <FSR> You had me perplexed for a minute, but after some examination I find that both items you mention fall under the category of "cache maintenance problems". About <Opening Explorer doesn't show Shankland-Liang> was just that we hadn't gotten to processing the very newest games for the OE. Usually that should happen within a few days of the game. The first item regarding Caruana's Petroff had me perplexed. It turns out that Repertoire Explorer pages are cached for speed, and this cache hadn't been refreshed in a LONG time. (Since before the WCC Candidates.) Since most of Caruana's Petroffs appeared this year it was woefully behind. This behavior surprised me (it's not supposed to work like that) and makes me think that it's caching Repertoire pages that it really shouldn't. Anyhow, now that I've refreshed the cache everything is OK again. Thanks for pointing out both anomalies and I'll examine the Repertoire cache issue soon. |

 | | Tabanus: <CG> The TI "event" SuperGM (2001) consists of three tournaments from three different years: Dortmund 2000, Linares 2001 & Linares 2002. Each of which has an unpromoted game collection. Is it possible to un-TI them? |

 | | offramp: If you go to e.g. E Williams vs Harrwitz, 1852, below the game is the link "26 more E Williams/Harrwitz games". If you click on that you arrive at a list of 27 games: the list includes the game you were at. Would it not be more sensible to change the wording to
"<27 E Williams/Harrwitz games>"? |

 | | chessgames.com: For those interested: 24th Sigeman & Co (2018) now open. Nils Grandelius is doing well. <offramp> <Would it not be more sensible to change the wording to "<27 E Williams/Harrwitz games>"?> A very fine point, but you're right: that would improve both brevity and accuracy. <Dr Winston OBoogie> I just got back in town from a short trip, I'll read and respond it shortly. <zborris8: <CG> What is the process to become a site moderator?> We don't have user-moderators (outside of chess forums) — if there is a problem, make a Whistle and either Daniel or Lee will look at it. The notion of user moderators has been discussed here before and wasn't well received. <Tabanus: <CG> The TI "event" SuperGM (2001) consists of three tournaments from three different years: Dortmund 2000, Linares 2001 & Linares 2002.
Each of which has an unpromoted game collection. Is it possible to un-TI them?> Yes, I'll have to do that, and delete the small amount of kibitzing. More importantly, I'm wondering how this happened in the first place. Do you know? I think it's far more likely that CG somehow botched this up a long time ago; the only other possibility is that five biographers voted AYE for it. |

| May-06-18 | | Count Wedgemore: <<zborris8: <CG> What is the process to become a site moderator?> We don't have user-moderators> Thank goodness for that. The last thing this place needs is giving some people the power to monitor others for any deviation from prescribed thinking. |

 | | chessgames.com: <perfidious: Love the selective deletion...> Perf, I know the page you refer to, and I gather that it seems to you that deletion took place with some kind of agenda in mind. I promise that kind of thing doesn't happen. As you gather I was alerted to off topic kibitzing (about regional accents, or something) and then started to zap every post I read not related to the game. But there were many posts, and I was pressed for time, and surely didn't do a complete job. There's nothing more to the situation than that. If there are more posts that should be removed feel free to whistle them. |

| May-06-18 | | takchess: It would be nice when looking at a players bio to have links that referred to their games that are POTD or GOTD. Also a special Icon when games appear in a lists ie opening search that shows they are a POTD/GOTD. Cheers, Jim |

 | | Tabanus: <CG: Do you know?> No! Only it was not voted in. There's a kibitz noting this in June 2006, so it's an old issue. Let me know if I can help. All the Event fields have "SuperGM", but I think they can be changed according to the three game collections. |
