<Ohio> on the spammer, do you mean in the <kibbutzer kafe>? I'm hoping you have not spotted spamming/arguing on actual player pages or some such. We had quite a lot of that several years ago, if you remember. That said, I don't think the <kibbutzer kafe> should be left to function as a "bug light." It was the first place I posted when I joined <cg.com> because it was the only place I saw where I could post. I didn't know what a forum was even. I doubt letting the <kibbutzer kafe> remain a sink hole of malevolent spamming is a great advert for our website. |

| Jun-24-18 | | Chessgames Bookie: The Spring Leg of the ChessBookie game is completed. Please look everything over.
What a great finish! |

| Jun-24-18 | | Dr Winston OBoogie: Daniel. That sex spammer has posted on every single page! |

| Jun-24-18 | | zanzibar: I agree, in a sense with <JFQ> about the Cafe. It should be renamed more appropriately... <Dept of Music and Abuse, Musical Abuse and Abused Music> Or, maybe some name indicate a night-time, adult style bar/music club. The Cafe maybe could be moderated to ensure that newcomers have a place to come to get info without being trolled, or seeing what's become the usual fare served up. It's not that I mind the Cafe fare, really, but it's not really PG-13, let alone PG. (I'm offered this suggestion before, so I realize this is a rerun) |

 | | OhioChessFan: Thanks for taking care of that cg.c. He still has a link in his user profile. |

 | | OhioChessFan: <jfq> and <zanzy> I meant the porn spammer. cg.c took care of it already. I do have a problem with post after post of music links on the Cafe. I occasionally see sincere chess-related requests for information/help/guidance from someone obviously new to the site that get swallowed up by other stuff. Not sure how I'd handle that if I owned the joint, but I'm aware of it. |

 | | offramp: Typo: Chessgames Help
<33. What is Child-Friendly Mode (Quite Mode)?> |
|
| Jun-24-18 | | zanzibar: Typical <CG> (like I should talk!) - Quite Mode in link vs. Quiet Mode. Still, it disallows helpful Q&A, as if that ever takes place round these parts... <
1. You are unable to see or participate in any posting on any kibitzing area--games pages, player pages, chessforums, etc, with the singular exception of the Chessgames User Support Forum. >
The idea would be to have a place for newbies and the non-confrontational... (Obviously, I'm one who engages in the fray from time to time, but I still appreciate the need for reason and sanity, in moderation of course) |

 | | offramp: The choices for Stockfish position analysis are currently
6 & 15 seconds and
1, 6, 15, 25 and 60 minutes.
I think that is a bit top-heavy.
I would suggest
6, 15, 30 seconds and
1, 6, 15 & 30 minutes. |

| Jun-25-18 | | takchess: I wonder if people would post to a Guess the Move Forum. .... |

 | | chessgames.com: We muzzled User: boga and fixed the link on his profile to something in line with our Child Friendly mode :-) <Offramp> <I would suggest 6, 15, 30 seconds and 1, 6, 15 & 30 minutes.> The reason why we skipped 30 seconds is that it's rare to find a position where Stockfish changes its evaluation significantly between 15 and 30 seconds. However, some subtle positions do require a minute. Why we picked 25 minutes and not 30 minutes was a pure flight of fancy. It doesn't really make sense, except that for the impatient, you'll get your answer 5 minutes early. |

 | | Tabanus: The impatient will never get any answer ;) |

 | | chessgames.com: I guess I settled on 25 minutes because that's 1500 seconds which seemed like a nice round number at the time. Incidentally, I'm working on an ultra-fast mode for scanning games without devoting all the time (and fuel) that is required now. It's amazing how spot-on Stockfish usually is even giving it 400 milliseconds to evaluate; we should be able to harness that. BTW <offramp> I didn't mean to dismiss your proposal; I do indeed feel your pain in that there's no 30 second option. It will probably be a good idea to populate the pulldown with many more options. |

 | | offramp: <chessgames.com>, I thought that ONE HOUR was too much. Is it very different from 25 minutes? |

| Jun-27-18 | | zanzibar: RE: boga, boga, boga!
<Child Friendly mode :-)> ?! MP isn't exactly Child Friendly... I was thinking more like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uq7...
Special.
Although, if you want to keep the "dirty" theme... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ffn...
(Not sure how "kid-friendly" this "kid-friendly" friendly really is) |
