 | | saffuna: <What is funny is watching <confessed> rulebreakers complaining about others. What about some people start using more the ignore function instead of whining about it?> Yeah, who could complain about someone who wrote the folllowing: <Jim, go F yourself and I mean it.,> |
|
| Jul-10-18 | | Keyser Soze: Well I'm not the on who is whining. You gals are without any reason. You both get <all> you deserved. Don't cry. Life is good.
Life is <f.> fair. |

| Jul-10-18 | | WinKing: Oh, I see the children are misbehaving again. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Can we get an on/off switch for our ignore list? Say, somewhere on my forum page, just 2 buttons to click: "Activate ignore list" and "Deactivate ignore list"?> I suppose, but you already have that feature by signing out and signing back in again. Moreover, when people use an ignore list to not interact with certain users, the ability to flip it off on whimsy is liable to cause them to interact again. Some members frequently break the letter of our laws, but confine themselves to the two cesspools of the site: the Kibitzer's Cafe and the Kenneth Rogoff page. I'm not saying that bad behavior is condoned there, but such offenses are not enforced as swiftly and vigorously as on other parts of the site. If somebody was swearing on the Game of the Day it would be removed in short order. If somebody uses the expression "fook" at the Café on a regular basis, we're not going to drop everything to tend to it. Far easier is to delete them in bulk periodically. There are literally millions of pages on this site where you can conduct discussion. It seems that two of them are the cause of 99% of the complaints. May I kindly suggest that if those pages bother you, you simply stay away from them. |

 | | chessgames.com: Another point:
There is a reason why we do not allow this forum to lodge complaints about other members. A long time ago we allowed for that. What would happen is the repeat offenders would use that policy as a way to attempt to disgrace other members with complete impunity. This soon became, in itself, a form of personal attack. So if your going to come here to "kindly suggest that we ban a member", just don't. Instead, point to the page where you think wrongdoing has occurred, and say something like "Hey, check out the page from Jun 5th on the Wesley So page" without mentioning any names. If we concur with your opinion then we'll take action and justice will be served. (Although in practice, we find that those who complain the loudest are by no means innocent, so don't be surprised if your posts are removed along with your antagonist.) |

 | | offramp: May I kindly suggest that you ban user Offramp as he is a merchant of fake news. |

| Jul-11-18 | | Dr Winston OBoogie: <(Although in practice, we find that those who complain the loudest are by no means innocent, so don't be surprised if your posts are removed along with your antagonist.)> Couldn't care less if my posts get removed, I'll repost them regardless and I don't mean to be purposefully obnoxious when I say that... Anyways.. Can you please <<stand by>> ^^^ <*THAT*> above quote? Because I can quite easily show you <what you've missed!> IF you acted <Nobody> would be here to complain - apart from your favorites. Please please <PLEASE>>... say you stand by this quote......... <<<those who complain the loudest are by no means innocent>>> Just a yes or no please? :) |

 | | saffuna: <What would happen is the repeat offenders would use that policy as a way to attempt to disgrace other members with complete impunity. > Could you please define "repeat offender"? I get called that often, yet I have never been suspended from chessgames. |
|
| Jul-11-18 | | zanzibar: <saff> you're in a totally different kettle of fish. |
|
| Jul-11-18 | | zanzibar: <Offramp> is mis-self-reporting his own abuse. Fake News?! Not really, imo.
More like Surreal, or perhaps Theater of the Absurd. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L4i... |

| Jul-11-18 | | optimal play: <offramp: The Rogoff page reminds me of the Stateroom Scene from <A Night At The Opera> with the Marx Brothers.> I generally think of it as the final scene from <Duck Soup>. |

 | | chessgames.com: <Could you please define "repeat offender"?> Every member has a logfile ("dossier") which admins can append notes to when deemed necessary. It also gets appended by the software, anytime an administrative action is taken (e.g. a post is deleted for rule violations or being off-topic, or a temporary suspension of posting is invoked.) Most longtime members here have a few items in their logfile, even the beloved ones that behave like angels. If you've been here for many years, you cannot avoid having somebody complain about something, however trivial. My definition of a "repeat offender" is somebody who has a positively enormous dossier, one that gets int the hundreds or even thousands of entries. There are only three people who can read these notes, so any non-admin who accuses you of being a repeat offender is merely guessing. |

...If you've been here for many years, you cannot avoid having somebody complain about something, however trivial. > Which reminds me, is this the appropriate forum to criticize typos? |
|
| Jul-12-18 | | morfishine: FWIW: If a member is defending themself from an unprovoked attack, IMHO the rebuttal against the attacker should not be categorized as a "personal attack" subjecting that member to a posting suspension. They were attacked first and should have the right to stand their ground IMHO |

 | | chessgames.com: <is this the appropriate forum to criticize typos?> You mean typos in our software or front page tournaments or help pages? Sure, let us know. If it's a typo in the PGN of a game, or a player biography, use a correction slip. |
|
| Jul-12-18 | | takchess: Suggestion. for those that submit pgn for game submission to cg; It would be helpful to track them. Sort of like the Pun Submission page. BTW. What is the time frame now for adding new games ? Thanks. |
|
| Jul-12-18 | | morfishine: Thanks for that suggestion <takchess> |

| Jul-13-18 | | Robed.Bishop: <CG: Every member has a logfile ("dossier") which admins can append notes to when deemed necessary. I guess I'll have some explaining to do when I meet St. Peter... |

 | | Penguincw: I third that suggestion by <takchess>. (also similar to the one for Guess the Move) |

 | | Tabanus: <CG> On Chessgames Help (What are 'Notable Tournaments'?), perhaps it should be mentioned that only TI events get counted. |

| Jul-18-18 | | john barleycorn: < chessgames.com: ...

|
| Jul-18-18 | | zanzibar: I really wish <chessgames> had an RRxtab for ongoing tournaments, accurate, and updated as new games come in. In fact, I'd like to see the xtab outfitted like <SCID> does, where each result in the xtab is also a link allowing immediate transport to the game between the pairs. It shouldn't be that hard to implement for a good coder, and sure would enhance your user's experience. Plus it would allow more info to be conveyed at a glance than just having the leaderboard (which would become somewhat redundant). |
